Speed Painting Photo Realism

Another prime example on how much the rest of us really SUCK at art. Give this one a chance--it"s actually pretty good.

I believe the artist was trying to show that every soul on this earth is amazing. (Gay sharing time is over!)

It is pretty amazing but whats the point? It is a pretty useless talent.

That`s amazing.
I do realism sometimes, but its nothing compared to that.
And its not a real attractive person, which I like. Not everyone in art has to be beautiful. :/

@ Akappy

I have no problem with someone doing something they enjoy. That is beside the point.

My issue is with this particular form of photorealism being called art. I don`t doubt that a lot of technical skill is required to work Photoshop et al to any degree of competency. But it lacks in flair and soul, it`s cold and sterile.

I didn`t call him useless either, that`s your word not mine. He is however an exhibitionist. Tell me please what else he was doing with this video if you discount show-boating.

I only call this pointless when talking about whether it is art or not. I have always believed that art should have a message and a point otherwise it`s just wallpaper and not art.

I do accept however that what qualifies as art is subjective and thus difficult to define and agree upon. My opinions are not everyone`s and that`s fine with me. Anyone who puts their work out there however should expect to be judged critically, it`s all part of the game.

maybe we should stop arguing and pointing out faults and just stand back and admire, until some other budding artist creates a new masterpiece.
It`s still art, no matter what form it`s in.

i`ve seen people get an image on photoshop and fade it in slowly then reverse so it looks like they`ve created and i highly doubt it`s been done here.
regardless of whether the person who made the video drew/created it or not, someone obviously was behind the idea of this.

I`m sure this guy couldn`t create photo-realistic art with oils, pastels, or acrylics, but that also works in reverse for a studio artist. They`re separate entities that both take talent. I feel it is wrong of you to dismiss this as "pointless."

Maybe digital art doesn`t require craftsmanship in a classical sense, but it still requires a good amount of artistic ability. Besides, maybe this person ENJOYS this kind of artistic outlet. Can`t somebody do something they enjoy without you being on their ass for being a useless exhibitionist?

No. That`s not what I said.

Art can also be about asthetic beauty which that bloke`s endevours lacked. And those pictures you are talking about would presumeably be of a classical nature and when I say that I mean works in oils, pastels, acrylics, etc. Those display true craftsmanship, no ctrl+z fall back, no filters, no layers, no prepared colour pallettes just pure skill and knowledge of the craft.

Also I don`t care that I annoy you.

^ So you`re saying that any observational form of art (landscapes, still-lifes, portraits, life-drawing) is pointless because its goal is to accurately portray the subject being viewed? You annoy me.

Photo realism is the worlds most pointless form of art. It has no story and no thought behind it. It`s exhibitonism at it`s worst. Abstract art has more of a message than this guy`s work does. Abstract makes you think and ask questions, it has a point.

I don`t care about the hours he put in. What`s the point of it other than to show off? Again if you want photo realistic pictures, and this is just an idea, buy a freakin` camera and take a photo!

@ antman "Embrace the hours of work he put in" what the hell? Nobody puts work out there and expects universal praise or if they do they are kidding themselves.

doodally, wouldn`t this be just as hard as oils and canvas? I can draw great (not to toot my own horn) but on a computer the best I can draw is a multi-coloured smiley-face. If you`re not impressed by this, then YOU do it.

Oi photorealis its the most difficult form of art. i really appreciate all the work this persons put into this. it dosent metter bout the message.just look at abstraction thats still art. cant we all just embrace the hours of work this person put into this insted of finding constant faults like a group ot five year olds.

there thats my rant for the day. i fell way better

Photo realism is not art. If you want photo realistic take a damn photo. Art`s meant to have a message other than `Look! I draw like a Kodak camera! Woo me!`

Dudes a shameless show off.

You don`t think it was sped up for viewing purposes?
I think something like this made on a computer should be considered art, because not any average person could make something as amazing as that..

And I don`t agree with the people who are saying that they should make perfect looking people, because that`s just boring. Life isn`t perfect and I find it much more interesting drawing people who don`t look perfect, like a slightly overweight but still attractive woman. Or a monster. I dunno.

Being able to create digital art like that is a far more "useful" talent in todays day and age than being able to paint using more traditional mediums. Don`t get me wrong, I am not discounting traditional forms of art, far from it, but you`re far more likely to find a well paying job as a skilled digital illustrator than as a painter.

I also don`t consider it any less "art" than anything else, it`s just a mroe modern medium.

Oh, and to the person who said to make it "painfully beautful", if you make something too perfect then it ceases to be realistic.

I don`t udnerstad those two lines either, though. :P

Videos like this make me realize how much I fail at life, I start thinking I`m alright at Photoshop and then...BAM.

Or maybe since I can`t do something like this I DON`T fail at life.

PS, I always skip ahead on these. I get ADHD when it comes to videos on the internet.

wow, that`s amazing.
but what was with the two lines coming from his jacket going into his hair?

I was wondering that too. then i looked at the picture on his website and it turns out that those are strings attached to the sunglasses sitting on his head. The video does not do the picture justice. you have to see the full size image on his site. it, and all his other work, is absolutely amazing.

i wish this was easier to appreciate. Its realistic but if your going to use technology, take a picture or photoshop it using different images for the sake of convenience

if youre going for art though, painting drawing and sculpting seem like more appreciatable. maybe because its harder to fix mistakes or tougher to call photoshopped... i dunno
