A rodent-like creature with a dinosaur beak washed up by a government animal testing lab, near NYC in Long Island. Yikes

I think it`s a bloated dead raccoon based on the teeth from it`s lower jaw.

i just watched a vid on CNN about this, they interviewed the lifeguard from the beach. Him and his friends have the carcass (its just chillin in their backyard, kind of gross) but they say they are going to try to get an expert to examine it.

And why are people saying raccoon? I can see where they might get that from but raccoons don’t have beaks with serrated teeth..?

Let me get this straight. Strange creature washes up on shore. Various people bear witness to it`s existence. Someone snaps a photograph but there is NEVER a body found? No one calls animal control? Alright. So... then shouldn`t the body still be there?
I think, someone photoshopped the thing, has `l33t` skills in doing so. Brings it to the beach pub and shows it off. A bunch of drunks decide to make up a story about how they found the "photographed" animal and voila. Done.

I think the fact that it`s flipping the bird gives it away as a photoshop prank.

whatever it is, it`s a mutant. the back legs are different sizes, there are random feathers on it that serve no obvious purpose and it`s skin doesn`t appear to be helping it avoid sunburn. not only that but it`s an eerie damn blend of a lot of other animals` characteristics.

it`s nothing made by nature, in other words.

if it IS a shop, it`s the best one i`ve ever seen.

I`m going to give my input one more time before I completely lose hope in planet earth.
**Reasons it cant be a turtle without a shell
1. Turtles have their spine in the shell, it would have a big hole in its back.
2. ITS A REPTILE.
3.legs are too long and the body is too longz
**Reasons it is a raccoon
1. http://www.animachina.com/images/whatisi...
Image
2. An expert from animal planet said so, and gave backup to his theory
3. The exact same body structure as a raccoon
4. If it`s been in the ocean then think of all the wear and tear to the bones and the body that could be done
**Reasons it isnt a photoshopped image
1.No one is this good.
2.The lighting is perfect
3.Shadows are perfect
4.Texture is perfect
5.Sand indentation around the body is perfect
6.What would make you think to make that?
7.Witness accounts
8.Its a raccoon, damnit.

Every single time someone claims or believes its a turtle without a shell I loose more faith in humanity. Turtles shells as two (maybe three) other people have stated are their actual back. Shell-less turtle = mangled mess of organs and torn flesh, not smooth bloated looking skin like that thing. I just say it`s a badly decomposed dog or bird or something.

Uhh, its fake. Think about it.

The people who saw it then ate it? I mean, where the hell is the body? All they have are photos. It didnt walk away, didnt it? It was dead! Dead bodies stay where they are.

Mmm. Couldn`t we get someone to like ... set up a dead raccoon, rip off part of it`s jaw and teeth, let that decompose for awhile, and then compare and contrast?

If the two looked similar, then I`d buy the raccoon thing. Until then, I`m skeptical.

IT IS NOT A TURTLE WITHOUT A SHELL!!! The simple fact that so many people have said this has really made me lose my hope for mankind. The shell is its spine AND ribs, it`s its entire back! There is no skin underneath and the skin would be scaly, man its a freaking reptile for god`s sake. http://dnr.state.il.us/LANDS/EDUCATION/TURTLE/images/alisnap.gif
Everyone who believes turtles come out of their shells with out looking like a mangled set of organs, needs to go back to biology, ELEMENTARY school biology. BTW it`s a rotten racoon thats been messed up in some way, either on the actual body or in the photo :P.

You can`t pull a turtle out of its shell. That`s been said too in the comments : they don`t have skin under the shell, the arms, legs, tail and head are attached to it and so is its spine.

What`s so hard about believing it might be something we`ve never seen before? The ocean is huge, and we are just humans and we can`t explain everything. And I would have trouble believing that evolution has just stopped since we came along. I say it might be real, but if they don`t have a body or anything, then there`s no proof. If it was real, they should have called authorities when they found it.

Correct me if I`m wrong, but I don`t think it was a raccoon. Look closely at the structure of it`s mouth. Now compare it to the structure of a raccoon`s skull.

[link to www.science-art.com]
[link to www.skullsite.co.uk]
[link to upload.wikimedia.org]

The mouth on the creature shown in the photo curves down and is similar to a beak. Raccoon`s mouths curve upwards and the teeth are bigger and protrude from the mouth. The upper jaw is rounded, blunt, and shorter.
I assume its front legs to be bound. The material around its leg cannot be fur, as it would be highly unlikely to leave just that one patch and for the pieces underneath the fold to resemble a tied knot. If it were fur, it would have become matted and almost certainly would have lost pieces of hair as it was dragged onto the rough surface of the sand. It looks like weathered cloth.

It is half man, half bear, and half pig.

Some people say that Manbearpig is not real. Well im here to tell you now, Manbearpig is very real, and he most certainly exists, I`m cereal. Manbearpig doesn`t care who you are or what you`ve done, Manbearpig simply wants to get you! I`m super cereal.

Didn`t we just have several posts not long ago about artists who actually MAKE crazy stuff like this? Like using regular materials to build some fantastically real looking creature? If it`s not photoshopped, it`s probably an artist`s work.

But then again...maybe it`s a baby Skeksis (Dark Crystal anyone?).

There is no way that is photoshopped, There`s no way someone could blend images that well and just make up that creature. The lighting is PERFECT. The skin is incredibly realistic. The shadow looks as real as it could be. If this were `shopped, we would be looking at work from one of the best editors and the most creative person ever. The world is HUGE, There has to be a TON of animals we havnt discovered yet, I mean its possible that there are some undiscovered creatures.
