osirisascend,

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/... Those are the numbers from a non-partisan source. How you analyze these numbers dictates how you define coalition success in Iraq. Based off them I do believe we are winning, and I would like to think the American life`s lost in Iraq were not lost in vain. The highly decorated General David Petaeus, who has more then 30 years of military experience says we can win, and that we ARE winning.

... We are winning the war, but they will continue to come back. Winning armies have to keep their soldiers on the front lines in order to maintain order and stabalize, until the country is able to do so itself. I respect you for being a soldier, but I don`t respect your foolish mindset. It is unfortunate that the tours were extended, but when you enlist in the military, you are theirs for a certain timeframe and if you don`t like that you have to go to war and actually do what you enlisted for, don`t even sign up. You are in the military, you chose to be in the military, now stop you whining and do what you signed up to do.

And by the way ImnoGod, I`m curious as to where you got the numbers that say we are winning this "war" Fox News? Give me a break Mr. 13-17 years old and not even old enough to vote or enlist in the military with mommy and daddy`s permission.

People like you make me sick. Especially when you start throwing out statements that CANNOT be backed up like "If you look at the numbers we are winning this war. Period."

Speaking as a member of the military, I will be so bold as to point out that if we were truly WINNING, why did we just extend the tours of over two thousand Marines who were PROMISED by our "leadership" that they would not be extended and would be going home.

Armies that are winning DO NOT keep exhausted, broken-down soldiers on the line.

Get a clue ImnoGod. And maybe read a book once in awhile and look beyond what your right-wing, Bush-supporting parents tell you is right.

I can safely assume from the way you think that you certainly don`t

Anyone who says this guy is a pussy for giving up so quickly doesn`t have a clue. Of course, it`s always some wet behind the ears kid who talks crap like that with no life experience to base their opinion on.

Anyone who thinks that reporter was weak should sit up and take notice. The guy has brass balls for agreeing to experience waterboarding so he could accurately tell what it was like.

Ooh, waterboarding!
You can get a feeling of what it`s like at home if you like.
Soak a small towel like a face flannel with water, lie back and plop it on your face.
...I did it all the time when I was a litte kid. xD

The concept is to prevent further terrorist attacks by chasing the organizations down to the root, and keeping them on the defensive. It has proved effective.

The_Maddog.

If you look at the numbers we are winning this war. Period.

I would like to know where you got this notion that Soldiers go around like big bad wolfs huffing and puffing and blowing the poor Iraqis houses down.

We do loads of humanitarian work in conjunction with Iraqi forces. Sure there are places that are unstable, and we are striving and succeeding to make them stable. Most of the Iraqis see us as a presence to maintain order and civility and respect that. But the only ones you hear about in the news are the Islamic terrorists.

Furthermore, you attempted to make the point that if we left them alone, they would leave us alone. Absurd! These people are motivated by distorted religious values and despise the concept of democracy.

So set down that loony far left magazine you`re reading, open your eyes, and read something with a little substance. You know the kind of thing that contains FACTS and not just crazy unsubstantiated conspiracies .

If we left well alone we wouldnt be where we are today. Capturing Bin Laden was something I supported. Invading Iraq was not. Bush proved within 6 months he didnt give a rats a$$ about capturing Bin Laden and set his sights on Iraq.

Terrorists are flooding to iraq because WE are in iraq. If we moved every operation to pakistan and afghanistan they would flood there. I understand why people think the US gov. had something to do with 9/11. That didn`t really come about until after we decided to invade iraq. The truth is, the administration are opportunists. They were looking for a reason to invade iraq, there is testamony to that from officials. They were working the whole Korea/Iran/Iraq "Axis of Evil" angle since early 2001. 9/11 was the opportunity and excuse they needed and was handed to them wrapped up with a bow. The waterboarding isnt being used to counteract terrorism in the US, they are using it to gain information about operations in iraq. Same principle that the nazis and japanese used in ww2 to gain information regarding operations of enemy troops.

The reasons why we went into Iraq are certainly arguable. Frankly, i think we should have stayed out of Iraq and put more troops in regions like Afghanistan and Pakistan to chase down the terrorists where they harbor.

But now we are at a point in the war where it would be detrimental to our best interests to pull our troops from Iraq. Terrorists are flooding into Iraq to fight American and allied forces. They have chosen to make Iraq their rallying point. If we fail in Iraq, they WILL come to our homelands and they WILL try to kill the citizens of our democracy driven nations. We`re winning this war dammit, the only place we aren`t is in the media.

>> psychology.

aussieguy29 is right. We English suffered terrorist attacks at the hands of the IRA for a long time. It was proven that many of the irish who had "confessed" to being a terrosrist back in the 70s had been tortured by the police into giving a confession. Years later it was proven they where innocent and in 30 years a lot has changed in our police force. We know it was wrong and supposedly it will never happen again. I`d like to think, at the moment we have the best police force in the world.

Whilst 9/11 was horrific, America is now no better than the terrorists that attacked it. Explain to me why there are troops in Iraq? The whole WMD things a joke? How come in nrly 7 years Bin Laden, an old man who needs dialasis ffs, has not been caught!
So those Iraqis attacking Allied forces are terrorists? You know..the ones who had their country invaded, there loved ones killed by us?

Prime..stop being such a tool and wake up!

Maddog, (i`m not attacking you BTW) but didn`t our european allies help the CIA transport detainees to countries where they can torture? I think I remember that...
-------------------------------------------------

No..there was a big thing about America illigally transporting prisoners through some countries. I belive Romania and (what was)East Germany, where accused of turning a blind eye. Portgal was also accused of allowing a secret American prison, though I dont recall any proof being found. Europes huge though..and 1 European country does not represent Europe.
As for you Prime..you dissapoint me. Yourlogic astounds me.
Would you really trust the confession of a tortured person? Give me half an hour (not that I would dream of this) and I can have you telling the world that that your a 81 yr old granny called Bernice. Something you`d know, if you really knew anything about psycho

Quick note: The PROSECUTION at Gitmo thinks 60% are probably completely innocent.

Link here to one particularly large example.

Not to mention three innocent under the age of 15.

Stop saying "These people" as if they`re terrorists. "These people" hate america. "These people" are non-nice individuals.

NO. "These People" are mostly innocent, and more innocent than the sonovabitch you are for condoning their torture.

Screw waterboarding, you deserve to drown, you ignorant prick.

@Jareddevour,

What the wikipedia article you posted fails to mention is that many researchers have discovered that this was only the 3rd preferred torture method of the Spanish Inquisition. With the 1st and 2nd being poking people with soft cushions and sitting them down in comfy chairs until lunch.

NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!

Waterboarding is psychological. They dont get damaged.

Im taking AP next year and already have done numerous projects on Freud.

The one concern I have with Truth Serum is its cost. I think a combination of water boarding to loose their senses and then a polygraph test would work quite well. I support anything that gets answers.

The point being here, is that the US use waterboarding to extract confessions/information from people they state are terrorists. They claim its not torture, everyone else knows it is. this is exactly what the reporter set out to prove.
I`d like to say "only in America" but in this case its not...but as far as I know America is the only western country known to offically torture its prisoners!

Why do they want to be matyrs? B/c of the radical wahhabyist school of fundamentalism the`ve been fed all their lives that says that the colonial west wants to destroy their countries, their culture, and their religion. By treating them like people you break down all the radical training and teach them the west is not the Great Satan.
Why would anyone want to bring in the cops for pulling the fire alarm, or use extreme force for anyone they think might (and that is the key word here)be thinking about doing something illegal without concrete evidence? By affirming human rights, you undo the very toxic ideology that began the Sep. 11 attacks.

They`ve been discussing whether it is OK in the US to use this as a form of torture, you can still breathe while the water is being poured, but it gives the illusion of drowning, and because it works so well psychologically, people are against it. Because well, nobody likes to drown perpetually.

And when said detainees are released they will not have a mindbending hatred for america to take back to their countrymen. There are indeed other alternatives that will not take away the american moral high ground.

The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few, is all a well and good saying, until you`re one of the few.

The very fact that torture is acceptable in the slightest, even if it is to save many lives is sheer proof that the US Government`s goal is to destroy civilization, and undo the social progress that brought it into being purely for the sake of absolute power. We are just stupid apes that use the devices of a bright few to kill as many people that happened to be born on the other side of the planet, who grew up in different lives, and create a mutual, and unwaranted hate. Civilization began when men threw words to settle their differences instead of rocks. Now, we go further, we throw bombs, and then get into the survivors heads and drive them to complete mental breakdown.

Humans have proven that they are nothing more than stupid little monkeys that now have big weapons, and are incapable of doing anything helpful. Perhaps the fast approaching robots will be better...

Examples include:
