Power Line Maintenance

This might not be one of the worst jobs in the world, but it certainly one of most death-defying.

This was from the helicopter documentary called "Straight Up."
It wouldn`t load, but I`ve seen it already.

I guess someone`s got to do the job...
I couldn`t imagine being up that high, even though I`m not afraid of heights. It`s the fall and the sudden stop at the bottom that gets me.

It`s not fake, this is the actual job of thousands of people in each nation. That`s what your power line looks like close up, that`s what the worker looks like dressed up.
You don`t see them much, as those are voltage lines about 6x the capacity of that which lines your streets, but it`s real.

Would anyone happen to know what this is from though? The russian (eastern) site proves no help as I don`t read the language and i would love to see more.

Its not fake. Why do people keep saying that? How do you think massive, remote power lines are maintained? The thing with the rod is to make the electricity jump from the power line into the helicopter. Then, he attached a clip so that the helicoper was attached to the powerline, grounding it, and him.

Without using the rod, getting close to the line would kill the guy. With the rod, the electrictiy flows into the metal and not his body. Plus, the suit he is wearing must also be insulated.

It`d be cool if it wasn`t so scary.

At least if he makes a mistake, he`d die so quickly he wouldn`t have time to feel pain.

Unless he fell.

"Electricity, heights and women"

This man clearly walks on the wide side. I hate women!

Wow. Holy freakin` hell. That would be so bizarre. I wouldn`t mind taking a ride on the outside of that helicopter but no way I`m climbing around on power lines. I think you have to achieve a certain level of insanity to do a job like that.
