Look, the kid broke his back and was tased afterwards. if you are a cop you are trained to handle a situation in which someone falls, step one, DO NOT MOVE OR DISRUPT IN ANY WAY. regardless of what they say the kid said to them, they broke the rule of thumb for back injuries and should be held accountable

I am 100% PRO taser use by the police. I think it is a necessary tool that lets officers get their job done effectively and safely.

But jesus H. horsecum. If you can`t handcuff a sober 16 year old with a drating broken back and heel a few minutes after they fell off of an overpass then you shouldn`t be a cop.

Though keep in mind, I wasn`t there and don`t know the full story. No one but the kid and the officer were. For anyone here or anywhere to claim that they KNOW who`s fault all of this was is a drating idiot. I`m just saying that from what`s been said in the report so far, that cop needs a good ol` fashion firing.

I agree with serio. Walking around with a broken back risks worsening his situation. And maybe, maybe (not really I`m humoring you marchhare) I can see tasering him once. But they tasered him 19 frickin times. Do you seriously think that it is nessecary to taser an unarmed teenager with a broken back 19 TIMES???

Also, don`t forget that his heel was BROKEN OFF. you want to try walking around on that? Or maybe you`ll just hop around on one foot with a broken back (of course then the cops will taser you because you are acting irrationally in a way that makes them feel threatened)

Uhm, if you get up and walk with a broken back, you risk damaging your nerves, which in turn might break your neck, and when that happens, you die.

One shot with a taser is enough to bring even the most war hardened soldier down, 19 times would be enough to put you into a coma. He`s just lucky. I hope the cops get their ass`s kicked for that.

OK first of all, you CAN still move and get up and walk with a broken back. That doesnt mean your paralized. Yes you would be in pain, but it doesnt mean you cant get up. He could have been on something, and if the pain was bad, and he was disoriented, he could have walked back into traffic and killed himself or someone else. He could have jumped off the bridge.

By tasering him, it would have kept him from moving. If the cops had help him down and waited for an ambulance to arrive, and becasue of them holding him dowm, he moved and his spinal colum snapped, then the police would have cause more damage. He prob kept trying to get up, and they told him not to, and everytime he did they tased him. The problem is that NONE of us were there, so we can`t make the call.

A cops duty has changed to more like
"To harass and fine" there is some good things they do but as a whole they usually hand out tickets, direct traffic and harass everyone and they wonder why people hate them.

Cops are bullies. Some idiot gives the bully a badge and a gun.

How about this: after Doug called the police, the police came and tasered the kid when he was still on top of the bridge, and THAT was what made him fall. Then they taser him 19 more times hoping he will DIE trying to cover up what they did.

How was he supposed to "comply with the officers" with a broken back?

If he was already laying on the ground (as I`m sure he was if his BACK WAS BROKEN), the only thing they could have asked him to comply with would be an order to roll over on his stomach, or STAND UP. Since they wouldn`t tell him to stand up if he was already down, they must have told him to roll over, which he couldn`t have done on his own with a broken back. Tazing him was NOT justified, and I call bullhockey that he was THREATENING the officers, and that the officers feared for their personal safety.

The cops who did this should be fired immediately, charged with assault, and subsequently subjected to a civil suit.

cops taze for no reason these days.

the don`t taze me bro thing actually pissed me off. its like just because someone is speaking oput against something they need to get electrocuted? even if someone is resisiting being arrested they shouldn`t be tazed unless they actually try to hit the cop.

maybe it`s just me but i don`t like senseless violence. much less violence against a poor kid that was obviously in pain and not a threat. ugh some cops make me sick. they`re supposed to protect people but most of the time they just hurt people cause the badge goes to their heads. and since cops stick together it`s like hell trying to press charges against one cause they have the entire force backing them up

2. the kid was a teenager (serious threat right?)
3. he had a f*king broken back and heel (he can heal himself taze him!)
4. the cops postponed his surgery by two more painfull days
i agree our cops in america are complete morons who abuse their power and break the law for their own enjoyment or gain. f*cking pigs

No, not the band !!!. This makes me so mad, those cops doing that. They should be: Fired, badges, revoked, blacklisted, fistdrated, Burned alive, shot 38 times, fistdrated, had their bodies ripped apart, and then be sewn back together with their own sinews for another round.

This really pisses me off, if you couldn`t tell. Tasers + drating idiot cops = !!!

"had to keep him subdued"...
That`s cop-talk for "We don`t have a good enough excuse for this, so I`m talking out my ass."
Missouri cops are indeed crazy, because most of them get so bored doing their paperwork they do random, highly illegal things just for fun. Five bucks says that kid didn`t say any of that stuff, the cops just tazed him to see what kind of noise he`d make. They`re that sick.

"but there is no way those guys are keeping their badges after tasing him 19 times"

in every single police brutality case i have ever seen, the cops end up getting a paid vacation (they call it a suspension) and then just get their job back and all charges get cleared.
I doubt it will be any different. fat ass grubby pigs.

That`s an easy win for the kid`s family. Police brutality all over. There is no reason to use a stun gun unless they pose a threat, and a 16 year old on the side of a highway with a broken back doesn`t seem very threatening to me. Were it only once or twice, they could claim that they made a "mistake" or something, but there is no way those guys are keeping their badges after tasing him 19 times!

Yeah okay so the kid had a black eye so he obviously hit his face/head too. When you hit your head hard enough it can cause combative behavior. Police officers as first responders are required to know that.

so much of this is such bullcrap it makes me wanna laugh. considered a danger to the authorities lying on the ground with a broken back? they wanted to stop him from getting hurt by tasing him? well gee, ya think the incoherent statements may be from FALLING FROM A F*CKING OVERPASS?!! i swear, they`re just getting back at people because they had to be tased themselves to be certified to carry one.

i`d say he was trying to kill himself. then he passed it off as an accident cause he didn`t want trouble.

I found this comment kind of ironic, seeing as how Canadian cops are tasering people right left and centre as well.

Just last week, a 17 year old guy was tasered to death in Winnipeg. Last year`s tasering death of the Polish visitor in Vancouver was seen around the world.

Cops were only supposed to use these things as an alternative to deadly force, but they`re being used on citizens just for copping attitude.

Ban the things!

"American cops are the least intelligent of your society"

Some are, some are not. Like any broad generalization it`s not totally accurate. One big problem is the fact that they`re paid very little for putting their lives on the line every day. Maybe if they were paid better and treated better, there would be better people doing the job.

We don`t know how he fell, what the cops did to piss him off (though I think he was just scared), or why in hell the cops decided to taze the kid so much, when he obviously wasn`t a threat. I think there`s a whole lot more to the story and I`m guessing the cops aren`t sharing what they know to be true, just to cover themselves.

Officers ONLY have the right to demand something from a citizen IF it will result in less harm to them or others. ie it`s for theirs or other`s safety. This is very clearly defined in the law.

Verbal language here does not fall under "reasonable, articulable suspicion" as defined by the supreme court. It`s not articulable. Articulable means you can clearly say. "He wanted to kill me". In this case you would be articulating "The completely disabled person was saying bad things". So there is NO articulable suspicion that harm would come to anyone, nor it is reasonable either, therefore the cops had NO RIGHT TO ASK ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING. All they were doing was assaulting some one.

My guess is they tried to pick him up very aggressively and it amplified the damage he felt greatly so he started cursing them out, then they said drat it and tazed him. At least, that`s the only way I could see someone with a broken back cursing the poo out of a cop talking about how he wants to kill them. Either that or shortly before falling he was raped by a cop and that`s what forced him to "jump" off in the first place.

Well he got what he deserved if he failed to comply. If they told him to get up and he didn`t do it, then hell yeah he should get tased. Incoherent statements? Clearly on drugs or something. The fall was total coincidence and had nothing to do with his actions. They should have just shot him and been done with it.

I have a feeling there are going to be some lawsuits filed very soon. I`d be suing them so fast it would make their eyes bleed. What a bunch of moronic douchebags. If he was on the ground and unable to move much, which was clearly the case with a broken back, and he was unarmed, there was NO REASON to do that to him. Even if he had been drunk or high, there was no threat.

Sure, they didn`t know his back was broken at the time but he couldn`t have been posing a real threat. Those cops need to be fired and sued, just to start.

So what could be the possible reason for him falling off of a bridge? Maybe a seizure?

Also, maybe he was in so much pain, he bad mouthed the cops, so the cops tazed him, and finally figured out that he was injured, and thought "oh sh*t".

Morals of the story.

1) If your walking on an Overpass, dont.
2) If your job depends on helping people, and you that anything dealing with brutality results in massive media coverage, dont use a taser.
3) If you are in the middle of the ocean drowning, dont flip off the lifeguard.

Funny story:

I live 30 or 40 miles north of there, and a few days ago, we had a guy threaten to kill himself by jumping off an overpass.

The police managed to coax him off the bridge, and as soon as he was off they started tasing him like crazy, making him run back toward the center of the bridge, so the police tased him again, which made him fall off.

He`s in the hospital now. Apparently, cops in Missouri just love to tase.
