Could you imagine the damage this could do to a human being?

That it seems to require replacing the handgrip (which presumably contains the compressed gas) after each activation would seem to limit its utility.
Otherwise, it`s a weapon far more effective than a normal knife. It wouldn`t replace a gun, it would replace a standard knife. Presumably if you`re out of gas you can still use it like such.
It might find itself banned by the Geneva convention though. Not that the US military pays any heed of that.

[lie] Well...erm... it wasn`t my idea. [/lie]

"Well..it looks like the ADS is a type of DEW. DEW is a a category of weapons, ADS is a weapon."

That sounds reasonable.

"And about the DEW and other thing situation. One of them is a rifle Dew and the other one is a huge ass mounted machine. I saw it on future weapons "

OH! MR EXPERT! SOMONES EJUKATED CUZ HE WATCHED FUTURE WEPINS!

ha, jk. but although your theory sounds reasonable, id have to say that siyanor is more correct, because i have heard of mounted DEWs and handheld ones and different names for them.

I looked at their site and thought, who the heck thinks of these things??

like, isn`t simple stabbing enough?
or do you feel like you need to mutilate your enemy at the same time.

Anyway, I think it`s being marketed towards divers prone to shark attack. As Jaws taught us, blowing up sharks with compressed gas can be a tried and true method of ensuring your safety.

Here`s a quote from their website:

"As divers, we all know what the effects of compressed gas are underwater. Our training teaches us that our lungs would burst from over-inflation if we held our breath and rose to the surface. This principle is key to the effectiveness of the WASP Injection System.

This weapon injects a freezing cold ball of compressed gas, approximately the size of a basketball, at 800psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world`s largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released into the water. Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface."

"cat barf:
Light Emission through Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

Light is radiation. Microwaves are radiation. Just because it`s a laser doesn`t mean it burns things."

Actually it has to be amplification lAser, laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation could talk to you about the differences between 3 and 4 state lasers and all that crap, but it`s a lot more boring than actually firing a laser.

But a laser is photon not microwaves due to it being an electron protional pathway equal to the energy of the incoming photon.

Microwaves are MASERS but I can`t remember anything about them to be honest...

It`s for animal attacks. If an animal. like a bear or shark, attacks you, you can stab it and inject it with the gas and it will freeze the organs around it, and kill it.

Yup your right, it`s called a DEW rifle, or Direct Energy Weapon. My uncle brought his home from his post. Let`s just say I had wicked fun with the neihbor hood squirrels.

"Not sure you can have a laser that burns without actually burning.. laser= light amplification by stimulated electron resonance.. or something like that.. so it`s going to be an incredibly intense light and thus burn... maybe some sort of huge microwave beam though..."

It`s an infrared beam that shoots out like a small cone, invisible to the human eye. It can penetrate clothes, and it burns like being bitch slapped with hot coals.

also what is the benefit of a knife that blasts compressed air in a burst powerful enough to split a watermelon in half?
0
Reply
Male 5,094
Jeez, like we needed another way of killing things.

Isn`t this just a tad bit overkill though? If getting stabbed doesn`t kill you, flash-freezing your innards will. If flash-freezing your innards won`t kill you, getting gas bubbles in your blood system will.

Isn`t it fuggin crazy what you can find out by going to the website that`s mentioned in the movie?

I really can`t see it being used though..
1. The time and danger it takes to get this close
2. The noise of the gas release.
3. The empty gas canisters you`ll leave around
4. The replacements/empties you carry will take up valuable space.

Not sure you can have a laser that burns without actually burning.. laser= light amplification by stimulated electron resonance.. or something like that.. so it`s going to be an incredibly intense light and thus burn... maybe some sort of huge microwave beam though...

"Either way it`s less efficient for cutting than a knife"

???
It is a knife, but with a small tube running the length of the blade. The video just makes it look like a skewer type thing because of the angle it`s at.
It`s deadly, silent and kills quickly, so it`s perfect for the military.

"The Marines don`t need anything like that. They already have a laser that "creates a sensation of burning without actually burning". They call it a "non-lethal weapon", though I call it a torture device."

This is a lethal weapon though, and it`ll replace their knives if it`s used

Is there any practical purpose for this? I mean seriously, even if its only purpose is to hurt people, either the victim would have to be completely immobile or the attacker would have to have really fast reflexes. Either way it`s less efficient for cutting than a knife and less efficient for killing than a gun.

P.S. - I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again, IAB needs a comment rating system like Youtube so useful comments get more attention and comments from jackholes like Brunch and Mafiacrime get hidden.

Highly specialized marines/soldiers would know where to stab someone to kill them in a matter of seconds/minutes, but if you are facing a big guy, instead of having to stab him multiple times and giving him many chances to hurt you you can just stab him once and hit a button and he is basically immobilized or dead.

ian - usually knifes work. It doesn`t need extra gas, it`s worked for years. Unless it`s a stupid animal, it`s not going to attack you if it thinks you can win. If you can hurt it with a knife, it`s going to think you can win. Why wouldn`t sharks attack you if one shark rises to the surface exactly?

Brunch - Fancy will have the last laugh, he`ll:
a) Delete your post
b) Ban you
c) All of the above.

But geez, they look lethal...I can`t think of a use that is benificial, aside from hurting...
The website says it`s for hunting and diving...hunting yeah, I can see that, but I doubt if you jab a knife into any animal, it`s not going to stay on it long enough for you to release the gas chamber.
Aside from that, they said that it would be useful in military...while it will definatly make someone crumple to the ground (the gas is cold, freezing tissue), I`m sure a tazer works as well; is less lethal, and is long range...I`d feel safer with a tazer and/or cattleprod.
