Umm.. as was said in the news reports...

    THEY ALREADY EXISTED IN ASIA.

Nothing evolved. Walking catfish migrated from Asia to North America, likely because of global warming. There is no reason that this would concern anyone with a brain. All it is is more proof of global warming.

i live in maryland and we had a similar situation in the chesapeake bay.. aparently it was really bad news because they eat e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g and really screw with the food chain. might be a dif fish then the one in this report, but same idea.. fish crossing land that can breathe air..

    o snap! evolution.

That is pretty interesting. It would be even more interesting if they eventually evolve legs and such, and then after a large amount of time become fish-people who will originally live in the lower class of the human society, but then they will begin to mentally and physically evolve even more and will soon be considered equals, but then... they will continue their evoluion at an alarming rate that greatly surpasses our own and will eventually take over the world!!! THEY WILL COLONIZE THE WATERS AND WILL LEARNS FROM OUR MISTAKES. THEY WILL BE THE PERFECT SPECIES, CONTROLLING LAND AND SEA, AND HEY, MAYBE THEY`LL FLY TOO, WHO KNOWS. Hmm...I think I may be gettinbg a little carried away. I really should write my ideas in a book instead of posting them on the comments of IAB...

^^ "THEY ALREADY EXISTED IN ASIA. Nothing evolved. Walking catfish migrated from Asia to North America, likely because of global warming. There is no reason that this would concern anyone with a brain. All it is is more proof of global warming."

Is it possible, just possible, that they evolved in ASI...

You know, you know what, forget it. I give up, you`re right. Evolution`s all bollocks.

I`m not even going to try anymore. It`s like trying to explain the concept of colour to someone who`s blind. Which is difficult already, but this person is also deaf. Thing is, they`ve been blind since birth, whereas the deafness is due to their stubborn refusal to take their fingers out of their f*cking ears.

^^ "Walking catfish migrated from Asia to North America, likely because of global warming."

Sorry, I can`t resist having a second bite at this one. Siyanor, are you proposing (with a straight face), that they "migrated" from Asia direct to Florida (because of global warming, obviously)?

That`s a pretty serious f*cking migration. Apprently they also figured out how to fly along the way (see, ^^ gandhi`s on to something here).

^^ "There is no reason that this would concern anyone with a brain."

Curse this brain, but I was born with it, and I must come to terms with the fact that it will be with me for the rest of my life. It makes me do weird things like analyse, rationalise, ask for sources, and even on occasion look
at the odd map now and again.

Life would be so much simpler if I could just be INSTRUCTED what to believe in a book or whatever, and didn`t have to deal with all this cursed THINKING!

Walking catfish were imported from Asia to Florida from trading. Some of them escaped and.. Viola!, they bred and reproduced.

Now as for evolution.. living organisms learn to do things in different ways so that it`s easier for them. When food is scarce in a pond, the catfish have over the years (a lot of them) physically evolved a body part that enables them to breathe air in order for their survival and they in all actuality slither like a snake/use their tails to hop and fins to slide to another food source.

You can`t assume that since God made the universe, that everything has to stay the same way and nothing changes. Things evolve, things change. We certainly have in our technologies. Why can`t other organisms? Viruses and bacteria are another example.

when he said they already existed in Asia, he was probably responding to the people before him who think these have spontaneously evolved in florida all of a sudden.

Particularly the "eat it creationists", and "Evolution... fundies... blah blah".

those people, supporting evolution without seemingly even getting what it`s about, are being a thousand times more ignorant than him. Yet you pick on him.

That`s your prejudice, not you "thinking with your cursed brain". Now, go tell the people who were dumbasses that they are dumbasses, because they`re dumbasses, rather than just picking the dumbasses that disagree with you.

My mom used to own one of those when she lived in Washington. thing kept hopping out of its aquarium and flopping it`s way down the hall into the bathroom, where it would slap itself on the floor, in order to tell people it was hungry. Damn smart fish if you ask me, dunno why it didn`t just go into the kitchen though, the tank was literally next to the kitchen door.

Book, schmook. His (Siyanor`s) skull full of mush has obviously been corrupted by constant in-school viewings of Al Gore`s socialist propaganda film.

Or, maybe he`s saying the catfish migrated over here around the same time as the Native Americans did 10,000 years ago.

^^ Oh, snap, Baalthazaq, why`d you go and call me a dumbass? Now I`ve gotta go fight back to make you look like a dumbass (which I know for a fact YOU are not, I like your posts).

"when he said they already existed in Asia, he was probably responding to the people before him who think these have spontaneously evolved in florida all of a sudden."

Who are these mystery people before him who said they spontaneously evolved in Florida? People who said "Evolution FTW!" are saying walking, air-breathing catfish are a pretty good modern indicator of the evolutionary process. I agree. No-one`s suggesting they spontaneously evolved in Florida mate. You`re making the exact same assumption that this dumbass did, and I know you`re smarter than that.

"those people, supporting evolution without seemingly even getting what it`s about, are being a thousand times more ignorant than him."

Well, see to make a statement like that, we need to ascertain the relative ignorance of people posting "Evolution FTW" against the ignorance of Siyanor. Again, you`re assuming that the first group know nothing about evolution and are extremely ignorant. Well, they may or may not be, who can say from the evidence at hand (their posts).

Now let`s assess the ignorance of Siyanor. He explicitly states that:

""Nothing evolved (1). Walking catfish migrated from Asia to North America...There is no reason that this would concern anyone with a brain (2). All it is is more proof of global warming (3)."

I make the following deductions from his statement:

    (1) Evolution does not exist. I think the evidence of evolution is all around us, and this clip of catfish `walking` is about as compelling a video for the evidence for evolution as anything I`ve ever seen.

    (2) Why would anyone feel the need be "concerned" about compelling evidence for anything? Unless of course that person had some predetermined world view to which such evidence is perceived as a threat which should cause concern? Someone who is NOT ignorant (by that I mean, someone who wants to increase their knowledge) should be open to such evidence. Hence my fingers-in-ears analogy.

    (3) As you correctly pointed out, this is nothing to do with global warming as it`s an introduced species. A person with knowledge of animal migration processes, world geography or for that matter, global warming, would not draw such an erroneous conclusion. This further indicates ignorance.

Now I could make other assumptions about Siyanor (e.g. views on religion, abortion, homosexuality, geological history, etc) and I`d lay money that probably be right, but as he doesn`t explicitly state I won`t make go there.

    "Yet you pick on him."

Well, yes. Yes I do. But I`m also picking on everyone who watched this and thought the same as Siyanor (Nothing evolved!), the vast majority of whom I would consider to be, as you put it, dumbasses.

    Peace out.

How is that sticking it to Creationists? lol.

Gotta love people who try to start sh*t when they don`t know their sh*t.

RyanF701 - Well, if you`ve read the this thread you`d know how.

Davy thinks too much? How about, Who`s "trying to start things" now?

Davy is injecting reasoned argument into a sea of ignorance. Sure, he could just shut up and the ignorance will continue to pile up unapposed, and then you`d be happy.

But that would make us unhappy as intellectual people can`t stand hearing or reading idiocies because it it`s a slap in the face to centuries of research, fact, and evidence.

So why do we speak up? Why are the people with reasoned argument challenged as opposed to the ones who say "Evolution FTW" ?

Because when you read reasoned argument with facts and evidence, it shows the flaws in your system of belief which it itself says is "Perfect", and it all crumbles down.

ONe thing I am glad to see is that even though My schedual does not permit to get into these debates anymore, people like Davymid and Maddog are still at it - good job guys.

I`ve also lost part of the will to do so because I`ve had an epiphany duringa debate - No matter how much evidence fact and logic is used, creationits, or "deists" will always almost always chose to just ignore it.

Saying something the the music of: "It does not proove anything to me"

They just flat out refuse to accept it.

And that is the dead on definition of "Delusional".

There, I`ve officially said it, creationists and Many Deists are Delusional.

    Yes you are.

not a big deal. my old english/homeroom teacher has one. he said during the Blackout 03, the filter got shut off and all the water evaporated within a few days and when he got back all the fish were dead. he started emptying them out and in a fake tree thing the fish poped out and started going across the room.

Well I didn`t think of evolution as soon as I saw this. I was thinking of Nelson Muntz. So why are you people so concerned about the theory of evolution? Think how many accidents these would cause. And the children, PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!
