These are hippies not hobos go on the streets you can find a real hobo they`re much more sad and usually senile, elderly or both and they`ll be collecting cans and such, damn hippies.

This series is called "Ridin` Dirty Face" by a photographer known as the Polaroid Kidd. The site with the originals seems to have been taken down, but the photos are still circulating around the internet.

They can`t afford food, but they can afford hair bleach, septum piercings and large tattoo`s.

I can see their priorities are set straight.

It`s interesting that many of these people can`t afford to feed themselves, but they can afford cigarettes!

I don`t see why people pity those that CHOOSE to be homeless. There are a lot of freedoms that come with it. You never have to work your entire life to pay bills. You`re not tied down to one particular place. It seems that a lot of people equate personal possessions to happiness, which obviously is not the case for these people.

I`m friends with alot of homeless people...
Most of them look just like the people in the pictures.
They`re really nice and sweet...
And I`ve learned alot from them.
Their life is hard...but free.
It would be great to be free...
but I`d rather have somewhere to feel safe.

you dont choose to be homeless. i have a home now and a great life but only cos i was lucky enough to sort out a place to stay and get my life on track.

Maybe I`m mistaken, but didn`t they choose this life? Why is everyone pitying them?

Male 337
Um. Most of these seemed a bit too generic or staged to be real, because the whole shanty house and railroad thing is generalized to homeless people and that`s the majority of the pictures. And their food choices also seemed fake.... really, opossum, canned food, and a banana with tabasco sauce.

Just my assumption though.

Female 330
Sucks to be them.

But most of them weren`t kids, and some of them, technically, weren`t homeless. (assuming they aren`t all staged - in which case, none of them are actually homeless.)

Wow.

Didn`t most of you notice that they AND their dogs all seemed fairly well-fed?

And in the second image, the blur was photoshopped in?

And in the third image, the girl on the left is wearing jewelry, a bow tie, and a BOWLER HAT?

With a couple of exceptions, these seem to me to be pretty much staged.

My guess is a photographer with a bunch of hippie friends who did a shoot romanticizing the "hobo" lifestyle.

I mean, come on... the last shot with the dead possum? These kids were nowhere NEAR the point where a gutted possum would be dinner.

I agree that it would be pretty cool to live like that, if you can handle it, that is. With this lifestyle, there are no bills, no real responsibilities. I just couldnt help but notice that they dont have the money for food and clothes, but they have the money for cigs, weed, and booze. They really need to get their priorities straight.

These people choose to be this way. It was a concious decision on their part. I know this because I have known a few of them. The girl toward the top standing on a bridge holding what look to be two things similar to drums on a strap over her sholder... I met her in New Orleans when i was a bouncer at the Bourbon Cowboy. I met a lot of drifters there. I stopped to speak to her and her group becuase I wanted to know why they chose to live their life that way. They didn`t really have mind-blowing reasons, it was a simple choice is all. I remember though that they smelled really awful!! But I let them in on one condition that they behave and I actually verbally told them that the first sign I see that customers are leaving because of their smell that I would have to kick them out. They were cool and understanding, but later I caught two of them having sex in the bathroom and had to boot them. Oh well.

I can sympathize with people living in this condition, but # things struck me thinking if this is for real.
1. Cigarettes
2. Tattoos
3. Body Piercings
4. Guitar, the accordion - but I can understand this, everyone needs entertainment, but if he can actually play, then should put on street corner shows, if possible.
5. The one guy`s belt in picture 34, my friend owns a belt like it, and it`s not cheap.
6. Booze
7. Razors - The girl in the first picture`s pits are shaved

If they honestly have those things, then they shouldn`t have to live the way they do, unless they choose to. Pawn off the trivial items, buy a decent set of clothes, go for a job interview.

That last one was rather disgusting.

At first I pitied them.
Then I was pleased for clearly being a superior person.
Then I pitied them again.
Then I felt sorry.
Then I saw the last picture and was disgusted.

So now I dont really give a damn about what happens.

I`m not depressed.. that was probably a life they chose.. they dont seem that upset about it.. alot of people choose that life for whatever reason.. less rules, less stress.. who knows.. it looks like a good time if you get over wanting to own cooler things than the guy next to you..

the only thing i dont like when i see those people is that many of them are drug addicts.. and some have offered me a bag of food they got from the jesus house for a bottle of vodka once.

I can guarantee that 90% of those kids come from wealthy family and most of them probably have a secret $200,000 trust fund they use to fund their boxed wine habit. (this comment is from an ex-crusty)
