On a slightly unrelated note, an American tourist came to Guernsey and asked where McDonalds was. He was shocked when he was told we didn`t have one. We have no fast foot outlets at all here.

When I went on holiday there, there were quite a lot of fat people. o_o
But I did see a fair share of skinny people too.

Wow. Well, I agree with some other people, you can`t base it alone on BMI. [It`s kind of weird for me to be told I live in an overweight country when I hardly see any real fatties.]

74.1% Overweight or Obese...

Seriously, does anyone not see anything wrong with the Body Mass Index? Its the biggest crock of crap in medical science.

Male 686
That`s stupid. Someone probably said this before, but BMI measuring doesn`t account for muscles, so some of those "overweight" people could actually just be very fit.

America is number 9? Wow. Well it`s probably because those countries are so small and have a small population, like Tonga and a lot of those other islands.

Here is a more complete version of the same list. It even goes to Ethiopia, which surprisingly isn`t the least obese country.

So yeah, Kuwait is the only other country in the top 10 with a population of more than 500,000. There`s more people in Glasgow (where I live, not just a random choice - it`s in Scotland by the way) than in the other 8 `countries` COMBINED. So really, America is second.

Wow. Malta is up there at number 15. We actually hold the European record for childhood obesity too. I`m so proud.

It`s a generational thing, really, the older generations still have the "eat and get strong" mentality, but most of the younger generations are quite fashion and healthy conscious. We are an aging population though.

my BMI is like...22 something I think. I`m about 57-58 kgs anyway... Whatever that is in pounds. Either way it counts me out of the obese stats :D

But now that we have passed USA in teh fatty stakes, Still wanna come here to perve on the chicks in bikinis at the beach? lol

Yeah, Australia has overtaken the US aparantly, was on the news the the day.
But BMI is not accurate, regardless of if its done by a professional or just of a chart, because as has been said, it makes no distinction on mass. BFI is a much better indicator. as an example, the Australian Army uses BMI, (or at least did when I was in )and when I got out of the service, my BMI was 33. I had to get a special medical dispensation signed off by doctors in order to pass my discharge medical, because according to that, i was `obese`. But I had hardly any fat at all, it was all muscle mass, and I was super fit. (wish I still was).

You want to know why America is overweight? We plan on evolving into enormous blobs of blood and fat, and eventually, we will eat our problems.

Iraq: tastes like chicken.
Iran: can I get that super-sized?
Afghanistan: for here or to go?

Now that the secret is out, I gotta run. The Pentagon will be knocking at my door soon and - OSHI- THAT`S THEM!!! I GOTTA GO!

These are all microstates that have been introduced to western style food after centuries after centuries of fish based, low fat diets.

It`s like the inuit of american indians. Their systems have adapted to live with very little fat, now you get deep fried crap everything sticks directly to the gut.

Props Cheif you`re onto something, I just don`t get how Kuwait is on that list.

BMI is a very good indicator, but only when calculated correctly. when you use a program on the internet that only takes into account your height and weight, then it is bad.

when it is assesed by a proffesional, it is perfect.

Actually if all the entires there that are island nations, (which always top every "est" list there is I`m sure, including richest per capita, fattest, thinest, poorest, most diseased, most flooded per capita, healthiest and there are more but I don`t know them). Then you realize that **America is the SECOND fattest "real" country in the world, and just barely.**

BMI is the WORST way to calculate being overweight or obese. Going by that, basically anyone with muscle mass would be considered overweight, and nearly every tall person would be malnourished.
