Well that was a very happy way to end my night.

I was IMing my friend throughout and I was like "I`ve always wanted to be a cute hobo like her..."
Then she said "Before the baby"
Then I said "Only... not pregnant."

If it`s too long then the director did the music video for Try Try Try by the smashing pumpkins using that footage, and to be quite honest, the shorter version gets to me more, but i think it`s just the song, because it`s all so sad.

For everyone who said it was too long to watch, you can watch it as a four-ish minute music video for too (Also titled `Try` by the Smashing Pumpkins)... except that it has a different ending, I think.

This video started off with a ton of potential and ended nicely (as far as making a video goes). But the over done vomiting and wrist slitting in the coked up dream was carried out too far.

Also the dialogue could have used some work as there were about 3 or 4 minutes where she said the same thing over, and over.

What they were going for deserves a 4
The quality of the movie deserves a 2 maybe a 3

Wow... Great video, oddly it both clashes and perfectly fits with the "things to do before you die" video. I like how it starts by really romanticizing that kind of lifestyle then slowly gets worse and worse, yet her voice is always light and matter-of-fact. 4/4

Thoroughly depressing video. I suppose it was quite clever. The voice of the girl annoyed me, did anyone notice how it slipped out of an "english" accent at the end? But yeah, it was quite good. 2.8, maybe.

Someone earlier said something along the lines of "Don`t judge junkies until you`ve been in their position."

It`s THAT kind of thinking that really drives me nuts. Of course we should judge junkies. It`s not like the accidentally get themselves addicted to heroin and then spend most of their time and money in search of it, perpetuating a never-ending cycle of poverty, disease, and poor choices. And of course these people have kids... (well... maybe not THOSE ones.)

You couldn`t PAY me to take a walk in those shoes, because only a total imbecile would be wearing them in the first place.

At first the film depressed me, but that quickly led to anger by reading sympathtic posts on here.

The whole film was basically saying "Don`t do drugs, don`t wind up like these people" and someone responds with "we should try to be more understanding of them."

    *sigh*

    kev25811-

I don`t think you understand what gets people into these positions. Like they just woke up from a very happy fulfilled life and said I`m going to be homeless, hungry, cold and high all the time. It starts off slow, maybe getting kicked out of a house, parents dying leaving you alone with no family and being born into bad situations.

They were trying to say in this video that they wanted what they saw as "good" life and couldn`t get it. They didn`t want to be like that but they needed to escape from the situation they were in because it was so bad at times they didn`t care what they had to do to forget. Its really sad and once you get to the place there is almost no chance you can get out. Who is going to hire them? They`re not finding a job anytime soon.

I feel really sorry for people like this and wish there was more that communities can do to help them get out of that but mostly they`re on their own.

    starrstreet: Yes, exactly. Well said.

These "kinds of people" are not villains, they`re victims. How they ended up in the situation they`re in is a complicated mess and to say `it`s their fault - they made their choice` is exactly the attitude that keeps them where they are.

To say that these kinds of people are "victims" is a joke.
Its there choices that keep them were they are not the attitude someone else has. If you want out of a bad situation you try, you fight, you stop feeling sorry for yourself and your past and put your baby first. kev25811, Dakkar, Devi3000, s0236078, I`m with you all. We all have an obligation to the society we live in, and to just give up and shrug off our responsibility`s because "the situation they were in was so bad at times they didn`t care what they had to do to forget" is immature and lazy . That is more uncaring and selfish than not feeling sorry for them.
Other than that is was shot pretty well and decent short.

Legacy15, you are the way a true friend is. Dont pity him, don`t feel sorry for him, but continue to love him like a brother. From your post Ill assume you tried to help him and that probably made things worse and hurt you and the relationship. It must bother you that someone would call him a "victim". I do hope the best for your friend and that he can find the strength to fight his way out of this addition. Hopefully you will see him again.

Except for the constant hard drugs, prostitution and dying and staying dead part, this gives me a glimpse of what my boyfriend`s life used to be like.
I don`t feel sorry for the people in that situation, but it saddens me that they would choose/continue to live like that.

is it just me or did anyone get the message that what she kept saying "the things you want to get rid of stay, and the ones you want to keep leave" meant that she was trying to get rid of her baby but in the end it ended up living and she was preserving her life so badly but it ended up being the one to leave. sorry if i worded it weird, i can`t be bothered to make coherent sentences with proper grammar during summer vacation.

Sorry, I didn`t mean victims in the general way, as I can see how that can be taken as condescending. I just meant that regardless of how they ended up where they are, they`re there now and are "victims" in the sense that they`re now controlled by something stronger than them, which is usually addiction.

Do you think alcoholics choose to stay addicted to alcohol? No, but it`s not as easy as saying "Hmm, this isn`t good for my life or society, maybe I`ll stop." No. It`s a physical and psychological (maybe emotional) addiction to something that makes them feel better and takes them out of the crap of living life. They can`t see past those basic needs because they`re too far in it to be as pragmatic as those here who have fortunately never found themselves in such a desperate situation.

I wasn`t trying to say that they don`t have any hand in their situations, just that even if they did get themselves there, they`re still people and shouldn`t be so easily writ

    ok, here we go:

"is it just me or did anyone get the message that what she kept saying "the things you want to get rid of stay, and the ones you want to keep leave" meant that she was trying to get rid of her baby but in the end it ended up living and she was preserving her life so badly but it ended up being the one to leave. sorry if i worded it weird, i can`t be bothered to make coherent sentences with proper grammar during summer vacation"

I took the line "the things you want to get rid of stay, and the ones you want to keep leave" about drugs and a nice life. She had a nice life once, with a loving family - it left. She wants to kick the drugs - but she is addicted and therefore it stays in her life.

ok, now for the second part of this. I seem to have opened a can of worms. I was the orginal writer who said to show some empathy to homeless/junkies as you have never been in that position. I really meant homeless, but thought I should throw in junkies cause I knew a couple and thegot their lives back on track. I was there when everyone else turned their backs on them. Now they are off drugs and have a baby daughter and a house and everything. I myself have been homeless. It`s not nice. You can never get warm. I didn`t put myself in that situation, I didn`t want to be in that situation. And because of the rental crisis hitting the country at the moment, there are thousands of homeless families with kids in australia at the moment. They don`t want to be there.

I meant homeless people as victims because I actually see this short as about the homeless more than drugs. I think a lot of people missed the point and are focusing too much on the drugs aspect.

Its sad, they are stuck in the life they are in as homeless people and they most likely didn`t get there because of drugs but because of money and other unfortunate situations. The drugs, alcohol and prostitution all come later. It doesn`t happen over night, its a slow decent to rock bottom. Because it was a slow falling into what they`ve become they didn`t even realize how bad it became and really thought they could get back on their feet. They just kept slipping further in without even realizing.

I was talking about the homeless and what goes along with it, not junkies for all of you who misunderstood.

    I don`t blame you itsdrew.

Sorry that some people are unwillingly homeless, but there are probably just as many homeless people that become that way because of stupid, sometimes irrational, and irresponsible decisions. I knew a girl that lived on her own (homeless) because she didn`t want to listen to her parents who, believe me, could`ve been worse. I don`t quite understand how "you can`t go out past midnight" would warrant enough reason to run away, but hey, I guess some people just can`t take that.

I got that vibe from those two, even though there was virtually no background story. I mean, they looked like they had some pretty trendy looking clothes on, I doubt they would`ve saved up the money to buy them, let alone be able to steal them.

But, maybe that`s just me :/

ugh.. I cant believe that people think this is what life is like for homeless people. Most people really think that for everyone living on the street, life is constant and relentless agony. That is not true. I have plenty of friends who carry all their possessions in a pack on their back just because they dont like having an anchor. A lot of them wouldn`t take that "shiny, bright" California life if someone handed it to them on a silver platter. If someone gave them a million dollars, they`d probably keep a couple hundred to throw a party and give the rest away. Money isn`t a necessity, its a comfort. I know people who grew up in comfortable middle class homes and went off hitchhiking just because they like that kind of life. They dont hate their parents, their not running from anything, they just really, really like freedom.
