so... do companies actually pay for their products to be advertised in films?

if not why do films have product placement?

and that Men in Black one was just dumb, you couldnt even see the logo and all he said was coke, didnt even say coca-cola. And how can you run down Home Alone!! the guy whinges too much.

The only reason that the product placement can ruin the moment in a movie, or at least for this guy, is because the author of that page obviously puts the thought about product placement to the front of his train of thought when he is watching movies. So when product placement scenes come up in a movie, this guy gets all butt hurt because it ruined the moment. The only reason he noticed all this product placement is because that`s what he is looking for!
My advice, pay attention to the plot of the movie, not the products being advertised in it.

"...Allowing product placement to take place in your film definitely EFFECTS the artistic and creative direction of your film"
NO NO NO! It`s Affects! Gah!
And the cigarettes and gin in 1984 were Victory Brand. Gosh.

Ok. Rant over. :)

okay, you guys. your movies all contain some type of product placement, but the most shameless of all is the movie "evolution."

the movie is about aliens invading earth and the foil to those aliens is none other than the shampoo "head and shoulders." they make numerous references to it throughout the movie, fill up a firetruck with it, and at the end of the movie, they have this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmoRVhG1V...

and your gonna tell me that "i, robot" is more blatant than that? these guys dont know shti about movies.

Er...no Austin Powers movies? The movies would be trimmed down to about 10 minutes total length without them!

Knocked up is the winner in my book...their homage and product placement of "Mr. Skin" was one of the most obvious, and the most lame I have ever seen.

There`s some companies that do it more than others. Burger King and Pepsico especially. Iron Man comes to mind.

A Product Placement list without Return of the Killer Tomatoes? Half the movie was poking fun at the use of product placement!

I don`t understand how Josie and the Pussycats isn`t on there.

So films are not allowed to have products that we see everyday in them? In that case, God should be taken out of every movie as well. (Sorry Boondock Saints). Every movie that they make the sign of the cross is antisemetic and the makers are now subject to a fatwah.

[]:^o>>> <-- Now for you... is this an illegal characature of muhammed or just any `ol muslim... It is actually a product placement making you want to buy oil at $5 a gallon!

Product placements are the reason why there`s so few medieval movies. I like to watch a good movie like Conan the Barbarian or Braveheart ( I miss watching guy getting slice in half with a sword ).

talladega nights should`ve been on the list. there was actually a COMMERCIAL in it, WTF? you can forget about all the other instances of product placement in that movie and it still would make the list as far as i`m concerned. IT MAKES ME MAD, because otherwise it was a funny movie. GAH.

I wonder if Weatherman isn`t on here because it was such a horrible movie that no one has actually seen to to include it on the list. The entire reason for the movie being made was product placement with mcdonalds and ac ouple other companies, it was ridiculous, seriously every 10 seconds

im really surprised Crank wasn`t on the list.

It`s all Rockstar energy drinks and Puma shoes.

So what, the movies need products, helps with the profit etc. As long as it`s not too obvious and as long as they don`t try and fit the movie around it ie when James Bond all of a sudden goes to BMW when Aston Martin couldn`t get the cash together. I have been brainwashed re Omega though, I thought that was always James Bond rather than rolex....Damn bought the wrong watch.

The most SHAMELESS product placement movie I have ever seen was Talladega Nights, even though it was meant as a joke, they could have just as well as the GTA series, made up fake names and logos without reaping the benefits from actually advertising every fu*king brand imaginable.

Another disgusting display of Hollwood`s willingness to whore itself out to corporations was "Josie and the Pussycats", I was appalled when I saw the first 10 minutes of it...but then there was a fight scene...filmed from overhead, as they fought on a giant LOGO!!!!!

What about Nokia in Cloverfield? He searched through every single phone and picked out the Nokia one, and there was a giant Nokia poster in the subway.

I actually don`t have much problem with a lot of these.
For example, in I, Robot: The Converse offer a bit of contrast. We`re in a surreal future world, yet he has retained a cultural icon from "vintage" 2004.

The MIB customs with Burger King, etc: It gives the image of an Airport we`d see in real life, since most of our Airports in the modern world are filled with chains like that. It would be stranger to see made-up "chains"

How about 2001, a Space Odyssey? Pan Am (which no longer exists) has space shuttles, the space station has a Howard Johnson`s, the space shuttle`s toilet is made by Whirlpool... a shame, since it`s such a great movie.

There`s a difference between just having a product that you don`t notice (Harry Potter`s converses) and when you blatantly have a commercial in the movie (I Robot`s converses)

How about Austin Powers movies? Starbucks? Get your hands off my Hiney?

When they`re making movies about anything real, they`re bound to have to put things like that in. They could`ve included Intel from The Last Mimzy or Head and Shoulders from Evolution. Both had scenes that focus specifically on the product.
