Red velvet cake... Rice krispy arms... and in the shape of R2-D2. All for a four-year-old who plays Lego Star Wars.

I WANT HIS PARENTS. O_O

beeze72 - Admittedly, that is an opinion, which you are stating as a fact. Most places, when they attempt to make it, will either over, or under heat it, making it taste rubbish.

"THOSE are difficult to make.
Charm city cakes makes almazing cakes too..."

For your information, the company that made that cake was the winner of the Food Network Challenge: Most Extreme Cakes, hosted and judged by Duff, of Charm City Cakes.

Anyway, that was fantastic. I wish I had a dad that cool. My dad would never dress up with me for a birthday party. ):

The number one for NOT using fondant, isn`t because it`s hard or that there is a lot of prep work..it`s because it tastes like poo. Who wants a thin sheet of sugar play-doh on their cake when you gob on a bunch of frosting?

Ghostofme16, I require you to build that exact same cake in three hours, and post pictures of the results.

It needs to look EXACTLY the same, just as perfect and everything.

If you succeed, you have the right to say it`s not at all difficult.

If you fail, you`re not allowed to criticize anyone annnnnymore. :D

Am I the ONLY ONE who is not that impressed?
R2-D4 is REALLY not complicated to carve and build. The detail work is VERY simple. The fondant goes on smooth all the time if done correctly.

I think the only two things that might have been challenging were the legs, and even so, it is not so challenging.

And getting a smooth finish is also challenging.

But all in all, not very impressive.. I`ve seen better cakes... Watch the food network cake challenges. THOSE are difficult to make.
Charm city cakes makes almazing cakes too...

I mean, carving a round robot out of cake is not that hard, but carving a car, or a motorcycle and making it look real gets my attention.

I`m glad that I click around the sites that I-A-B links to.

I don`t know about all this r2-d2 r2-d4 stuff, but the dad who commissioned the cake for his son said that R2 comes in like 4 different colors in the wii game star wars legos (something like that) and his son liked the red R2 the best.

As for him not remembering it, you`d be surprised at what a 4 year old can remember later on in life. My niece is 8 years old now and still remembers things from when she was 2-3. Kids are surprisingly intelligent.

Regardless of all that, this was amazing. And I really want rice crispy treats now.

"I hear from a reliable cake-decorating source that there is no skill in fondant. It`s all just prep work. It`s creative, though, I suppose. :D!"
Fondant`s not actually that easy. Try fondant-ing a large object or working with it if it`s sat out for too long.

"-Oh and the silver part of the r2-d4 was painted up with edible paint, not airbrush"
Probably edible paint applied with airbrush, though.

Thats so cool. As a bakery artist; this is something thats takes time and dedication to do. Even though he said its R2-D2. He prob` made it red to show that the birthday cake is red-velvet, or the theme was red, or that the kid`s fav` color is red. There`s lots of reasons, dont shoot down the cake. Great job Mark Randazzo:-)

Man that`s awesome. That is so awesome. I wish I was talented enough to make a cake like that, but my frosting always sucks. One of these days....I will conquer this mountain.

initiald013 - Yes, but most bakers don`t use it because it`s hard to get the prep correct, it`s harder than other things that are avalible to use today, so most companies would rather make things easier to make, rather than things that require skill, or, if it`s a large company, then if it does require skill, it would be made very badly.

But yes, that is an amazing cake. I`ve seen maybe slightly better than this in real life, but it`s not geeky. I might take a photo and see if fancy would let me put it as a link. : D

YOUREWINNER - Probably with edible spray food color, like an airbrush.

Man, I would love to have a cake like that. Fondant, yum. Red velvet cake - my favorite. And the rest just makes me want to melt into a little pile of happy and nerd.

It`s not R2-D2 as other have said. Same make of robot. I thought it was R4. I guess the general consensus is that it`s R2-D4. I`ll go along with that.

However, yes, it`s amazing! I love it. :-D 8-D

yeah. That wasn`t the fondant when the guy was like "that`s fondant."(9th pic down) it was the white chocolate ganache. It only gets fondant in the 16th pic.

HAH SEE?! Not only Star Wars kids can geek out about specifics! Cake geeks can, too!
