It`s not so much evolution as a representation of intelligent design, if it were real. We`d be god, tinkering with how traits are passed on and what evolves.

erm... nothing to do with `proving evolution`. In any case, evolution IS done, its real, anyone who doesn`t agree is either a completely jaded moron or has found something that can trump trillions of scientific working hours that has proven evolution via multiple fields and has verified it.

What is the difference between "intelligent design" and "evolution". Arent all of these the same concept?

    and Evolution=change over time
Marijuana changed its potency over time so it is an example of evolution

and it could just be how people grow the marijuana, not the actual plant changing

    "Proof of genetic engineering."

More like proof of artificial selection.

Except THC may provide some other evolutionary benefit to the plant that outweighs the disadvantage, jangofett600. Adding to that, marijuana plants may continue to have increased potency because humans continue to grow them regardless the THC concentration. That is, we`re not causing the species to go extinct.

I`m not saying this is necessarily evolution, but it could be.

Evolution is not a theory any more, it is an observable phenomenon. Fruit flies (specifically Drosophila Melanogaster) are commonly used to demonstrate changes within a species’ genetics over a period of time due to their relatively short breeding periods. Denying the existence of evolution is akin to denying the presence of gravity.

its not proof of evolution or natural selection humans have tampered with the plant genetically along with more advanced ways of producing a healthier stronger plants with methods such as hydroponics, low strength training ect along with being able to adjust the level of nutrients in the soil all play a part in the higher THC content in the plant. and honestly its garbage its illegal and i am just waiting for the the whole "war on drugs" against marijuana to end and be forgotten about. more info? www.grasscity.com learn something for a change and form a proper view on the plant.

That`s not proof of evolution. That`s selective breeding. When a seed from a por plant grows something other than pot you will have evolution. Scientists have beeb studying fruie flies for thousands of consecutive generations (they have an 11 day life span)and have never seen a beneficial mutation.
"It is a striking, but not much mentioned fact that, though geneticists have been breeding fruit-flies for sixty years or more in labs all round the world—flies which produce a new generation every eleven days—they have never yet seen the emergence of a new species or even a new enzyme.” Gordon Rattray Taylor (former Chief Science Advisor, BBC Television)

the real idiot here is seetheidiot who said:

"it`s not natural selection, it`s artificial selection if humans are causing it."

sorry friend, but humans are as natural as earthquakes or tapeworms.

and unbeknownst to these worried government officials, higher potency in marijuana means that a user need smoke less of it to achieve the desired effect, cutting down on tar and smoke inhalation. higher potency pot is EVEN SAFER than the utterly harmless low-potency pot.

Actually, that`s not evolution in the sense of goo to you. Throughout all the years those flies have been bombarded with radiation and observed, they have never become anything other than a fly.

"Denying the existence of evolution is akin to denying the presence of gravity."

Not really since we observe gravity and its effects daily, but I challenge you to put forth an example of macro-evolutionary change having been observed in a laboratory.

This is not proof of Evolution or natural selection of any kind. Marijuana is stronger now than it was in the past only due to the conditions we have placed upon it. Rather than growing marijuana in large quantities outdoors, growers have come to realize that growing indoors yields less `bud` at higher levels of THC.

This is largely due to the fact that under controlled conditions (nitrated soil, temperature, light exposure, cross-breeding...blah blah blah...) marijuana plants are able to grow under optimal conditions. Thus, marijuana over the past 30 years is stronger ONLY due to the conditions it has been subjected to. This does NOT suggest that marijuana is now inherently stronger...All this study suggests is that growers are finding more efficient ways to produce marijuana that can get you BAKED AS SH*T!!!11

When I was in journalism school, the rule of thumb was that you needed to have your facts confirmed by three separate sources before a news story was ‘fit to print.’ By that standard, the ‘three sources’ cited in the story above — White House Drug Czar (and chronic liar) John Walters, NIDA’s (US National Institute on Drug Abuse) Potency Monitoring Project, and Nora Volkow, who heads the rabidly anti-drug propaganda agency that paid for the Monitoring Project study — don’t even add up to one.

Fortunately, the AP did at least demonstrate the good sense to speak with SUNY Albany Professor (and NORML Advisory Board member) Mitch Earleywine, who stated the obvious factoid overlooked by the White House: As the potency of pot rises, people simply smoke less of it. Mitch could have also noted that most cannabis consumers actually prefer less potent pot, just as the majority of those who drink alcohol prefer beer or wine over hard liquor.

Or he could have mentioned how doctors may legally prescribe a FDA-approved non-toxic pill that contains 100 percent THC, and curiously, nobody at NIDA or at the Drug Czar’s office seems particularly concerned about it. Strangely, AP writer Hope Yen felt the need to identify Dr. Earleywine, who has authored numerous peer-reviewed studies and books on various aspects of cannabis, as “an adviser for marijuana advocacy groups,” but felt no such need to identify Mr. Walters or Ms. Volkow as “those who favor arresting and jailing adults who use marijuana, even when their use is for medical purposes.”

Of course, in an effort to get to the bottom of the so-called “potent pot” story, Ms. Yen might have thought to inquire why the US National Drug Intelligence Center’s 2007 National Drug Threat Assessment states, “Most of the marijuana available in the domestic drug markets is lower potency commercial-grade marijuana.” Geez, you’d think that the various prohibitionist branches of the US government would at least get their stories straight!

Oh well, since lying about the alleged dangers of allegedly more potent pot is now an annual tradition (Remember “Pot 2.0” anybody?), there’s always next year.
