personally i would have just kicked the ball into the goal with my foot, but their way is also effective...

From Wikipedia:

A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately overengineered apparatus that performs a very simple task in very indirect and convoluted fashion (thus absurdly violating the principle of parsimony).

In a more ghetto and shorter way to say the above phrase: Rube Goldberg machines are supposed to complete simple tasks with a super-complicated machine.

I thought it was pretty cool. Even if some of the physics in it felt a bit `off`, it was still close enough for me to be entertained.

That had to have been offside. I didn`t see a defender or goalkeeper anywhere.

very impressive, but Ive gotta say, the physics didnt quite add up in some parts, like a lot of the swinging beams that seemed to disobey gravity.

wow. i play gmod, but i`ve never seen something that epic. especially without the usage of wire (that i saw anyways). It would have been cool to use some of Avon`s stargate mod... extremely awesome nonetheless

The thing about Garry`s Mod is that this is NOT computer generation. Every single piece in the machine needs to be created, positioned by hand (Which is a pain, much more difficult than in real life) and every single piece needs to be placed just right. And this is NOT scripted. Half-Life 2 uses a very realistic physics system, all of this was done through the game itself without any more interaction than setting it up and starting it.

"You know, computer generated Rube Goldberg machines just aren`t that impressive."

It isn`t computer generated. It`s carefully manufactured through the use of the game Garry`s Mod.

"If you played the game you would understand, you have to build it in the game, and it`s pretty f*ckin difficult there too."

No doubt if I was familiar with the game, I`d be more impressed. But having actually helped design construct, and fine tune some real-world Rube Goldberg machines while in college, my opinion on the CG variety would probably not be much different.

^^^

Gmod is basically a sandbox version of half-life too, where you can make things out of every single object or NPC in half-life 2. It isn`t animated outside of being a video game, you have to literally build it yourself using a gun to move the objects around, and you have a few other options too, setting axels, making boosters ect.

It`s really really hard, it`s a shame more people don`t realize how good at it you have to be to pull something off like this.

I don`t know what either "GMod" is, or "Rube Goldberg". But to me this was just a very long 3D animated video.
It was too long too. I just wanted to get it over with. The first minute was interesting, then it just got boring.
I don`t understand why this is so "epic". O___o;

back when i played with gary`s mod... i made doors float. Thats all i could do haha

This guy though put a lot of creativity into making the whole system work so despite it being on a computer (wheras most are just cartoons, much more impressive) and despite kicking the ball being a much simpler thing to do (of course it IS a rube goldberg machine so the whole point of it is to make a simple task complex) i still think that it was entertaining and he did a very good job on it
