Overmann emerges victorious as usual. I have yet to witness a formidable opponent who is able to engage Overmann and come out on top.

Hats off.

Truly a very entertaining, and honest guy. (George Carlin) A friend of mine passed away on Friday, (Car accident. flew off a cliff.) and he`d always said that George Carlin was his favorite comedian, and how upset he`d be if he died. How bizarre, I thought, when George passed two days later.

Now, now, Overmann and Pat, you two both need to settle down. You know what they say about arguing over the Internet. It`s like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you`re still retarded.

I`m glad that they put this video up. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the insights, George.

At the very least you could have changed your tone and not passed yourself off as an ass. How do I mean? Rather than try to make an absolute statement like, "he wasn`t really that funny," you could have chosen to say, "It`s sad that he died but I never really got into his humor" or "Even though I didn`t personally find him funny, it`s sad that he died." Get the idea? There are subtle changes you can make to your speech that would still enable you to make your thoughts known without offending anyone, although I suspect such subtlety eludes you.

"...you...would make a comment like that given your inherent elitism and arrogance."

It doesn`t have anything to do with elitism or arrogance - I just happen to think you`re not very bright. How does that observation reflect goodness on me or elevate me to some higher echelon in society than you?

"I think not, I can let my academics speak for that..."

As academically qualified as you may be, academics is no substitute for common sense and certainly says nothing of how one behaves in a social setting.

"I simply state opinions that happen to not be in line with all the liberal teens/20-somethings on this site."

All I read from this is that you like to be a deviant. Why else bring up political alignment when I`m only accusing you of being indecent? And about that...

"And as far as being impolite and disrespectful, take a look in the mirror and try not to call yourself a hypocrite."

As impolite and disrespectful as I am, you`re not going to see me entering a thread about a recently deceased comedian and comment on how unfunny he was. Even if it`s a comedian I don`t happen to care for, say Adam Sandler. Why? Because I respect that people enjoyed his comedy and how anything I have to say on the matter is the last thing they`d want to hear.

"Then again, you always were quite the dim one, pat."

The dim one? Congratulations, insult attempt of the week goes to you!. I think not, I can let my academics speak for that, but I`m not going to go there. I simply state opinions that happen to not be in line with all the liberal teens/20-somethings on this site. But since I am fully aware that not keeping in line with the Obama generation makes one "stupid" these days, I`m not at all surprised that you or most others would make a comment like that given your inherent elitism and arrogance. And as far as being impolite and disrespectful, take a look in the mirror and try not to call yourself a hypocrite.

Something else: even if you did have the freedom of speech you`d like to think you had (thinking yourself immune from others` criticism solely because you`re giving an opinion), how does that also justify your being impolite and disrespectful?

As for the Russert comment, look where you are. This website isn`t intended to take politics seriously beyond fostering Bush-haters and giggling or complaining over the occasional candidate mishap. Russert mattered not because he was "ranting against the establishment" but because he was a damn good reporter. Tragically, you can`t expect the IAB traffic to relate more to political commentators than to comedians. In that sense it`s not "pure bullsh*t", as it were.

"...last time I checked a little thing called freedom of speech was in existence..."

Do you even know what freedom of speech is? It`s a guarantee by the government that people will not be prosecuted by institutions for expressing their opinions. That says nothing of what *I* may have to say about it.

"...and I never said I was glad that he died, I simply stated that I didn`t prefer his brand of comedy."

And I didn`t say you were, but you`re either terribly callous or terribly naive to think your unkind words would have been anything but unwelcome in a thread dedicated to him so short after his death. And by the way, there`s a critical difference between criticizing capitalism and criticizing consumerism. It is entirely possible to live in a capitalistic nation without obsessing with consumerism. Then again, you always were quite the dim one, pat.

"There`s more than just swear words in there."

What, did I give some indication there wasn`t?

Goodbye George, thanks for the insights, the laughs, the inspiration, the thoughtfulness, the satire, the intelligence, the wall of words, the musicality, the warm heart and soul.
Look back upon us all, and may you giggle at our continued fumbling about, in this thing called life.
Kudos.
P.S. Say hi to Bill Hicks :)

"...Says the one with the South Park avatar. Good job, I`m glad you took the time to honor his thread with that observation. Please proceed to f*ck off to somewhere where your opinions are more welcome."

Well excuse me for expressing my opinion in an open forum, last time I checked a little thing called freedom of speech was in existence, and I never said I was glad that he died, I simply stated that I didn`t prefer his brand of comedy. That`s it.

And to add another "unwelcome" comment, I`m loving how we have a thread honoring an angry comedian but had nothing honoring Tim Russert, probably one of the greatest men to ever serve in the field of Journalism. He held our politicians accountable and was a true humanitarian, but whatever, he doesn`t matter because he wasn`t ranting against the establishment. Pure Bullsh*t.

I have always been a big believer in free speech and that everyone has a right to their own opinion. Until I saw Generic_Man`s comment. I have officially changed my mind.

George Carlin turned standup comedy from wholesome family-oriented lame joke telling and turned it into a way to get people to think, to realise what`s going on around them. He broke down the barriers of obscenity back in his early days, and he is cited as an inspiration by practically every comedian alive today.

The man was brilliant. His work will be remembered long after his bones have turned to dust, and he should constantly be an inspiration to us all to stand up for what we believe in, practice what we preach, think before we speak, and never conform to what someone dumber than you expects.

I love George Carlin. He said what everyone else was thinking, only he put it together in an absolute genious way. And he says what we other get bashed for saying. No one wanted to start an argument with Carlin. They knew they would be pwned and burned in the worst possible way. And another thing is that he was fully aware of him dying soon. Brilliant name for his show: One Foot In The Grave. Rest in peace, old friend. You will be missed and remembered dearly.

Dane Cook was really funny when I was, oh, 15. Sure he`s a good comedian but his jokes have no substance. He doesn`t really care about the poo he says. It`s funny and that`s good enough. Whatever, it obviously works.
