Is is weird to anyone else that this guy did all this for some random snake? Isn`t this interfering with natural selection? He`s obviously not the brightest serpent in his family.

the coolest thing i see about this is that the people with the eggs brought the wild python to be checked out, like that they didnt hold a grudge against it...well, that and the surgery

lightningbug: He`s a vet, it`s his duty as a practitioner of medicine to do his utmost to heal, save, or ease the suffering of any animal in his care.

As for natural selection, the snake did ingest something human-made, so it was needed to interfere.

Those weren`t golf balls. They were four small round white capybaras.

Aww, the poor thing. Am I the only one here that actually feels for the animal beside Kanashii?

And lighteningbug, snakes will usually do things like this. In fact, it`s extremely common for a snake to swallow things that aren`t food. There was one that actually ate an electric blanket because it registered the heat given off as a living, breathing animal. Though they are very intelligent, they don`t necessarily harbor the ability to discern between eggs and golf balls. They don`t see like we do and they go entirely by scent and heat signals. The golf balls were placed in a nest with other eggs and therefore absorbed the scent and heat. It`s very easy for the animal to mistake the two.

The people who owned the hen house are pretty awesome to actually bring the snake in to a vet. There are lots of people out there who would have just killed the snake and been done with it.

Anybody remember "A Snake Mistake" from their childhood? Heres the description on Amazon: After Farmer Henry uses light bulbs as fake eggs to fool his hens into laying more eggs, Jake the Snake makes a big mistake.
