Anybody ever heard that story where a woman lifted a car of of her son in a feat of pure adrenaline and mothering instinct?

Of course she crushed two spinal.. bone things... in the process, but that`s still incredible.

How`d she end up under there in the first place without being completely crushed by the tire?

I`m the son of two paramedics. This is like a weekly occurrence for me. And she didn`t really seem to be stuck. But I`m sure she had some broken bones and they wanted to put her on a board to get her out.

Grif, she looked pretty damn stuck to me. A car like that is typically lower than a body can fit underneath, hence the jack and cribbing. The broken bones, fractured skull, and spinal injury was already obvious. I was more worried about how they were going to pull her out. I guess yanking her was effective enough.. ouch though.

I`m no expert, but couldn`t have they just lifted the thing right off with like five or six guys? There were enough people there...

Loofah, too much risk and liability involved in that. It was also raining.. what if one or two of them lost their grip and the car fell right back on her, or even worse, on another emergency worker?

"what are you talking about ^"

Basically, it`s safer to crib the car and use the jack. They have those tools for a reason.

I f*cking hate drunk drivers so much, it`s so god damn stupid, and so preventable.

If you have ever drunk driven, I hate you with a fiery passion and I hope from the deepest part of my heart you die a slow and painful death. You deserve nothing more for being so ignorant.

Wow, I wonder who was filming it though, was he a part of the team, or a deputy or something? Because he sure was up-close-and-personal with the whole deal if he wasn`t involved in it in some way.

After I saw the woman`s face and how much pain she seemed to be in I couldn`t watch any more :(

It is definitely possible to lift a car like that, I once witnessed two guys (neither of them particularly huge) lift a Fiat Punto and shift it about a meter. Wouldn`t trust someone`s life to it though.

    That is one hardcore jack.

It`s great to be able to get a new perspective on rescue workers without the intense music and the dramatic voiceover.

They need to use the correct equipment partly for legal reasons. I learned about a case where some firemen needed to use some equipment, but they didnt secure it down when transporting it, instead they just got someone to hold it, and it ended up falling on them and they lost both legs, so they sued the fire department for loss of ameneties and such. Similar thing goes here, if something happened because they didnt use the jack, they could be sued for negligence. or something...

I drove up on a drunk woman who had just flipped her car one time. There was water flowing in the ditch by it and she though it was gas coming from her car. She SWORE she smelled gas and claimed she couldn`t get the door open. I had to use a tire iron to bust out the window and get her out. The police showed up not long after that and I took off. I`m sure she was hauled off for DUI.

Every time I see firemen and paramedics in action, it triples my respect for them. And for the retarded questions: yes she was stuck. Her hip was wedged under the frame. Even if she wasn`t stuck, they had to get the car up to draw her out without causing any more damage. "Spinal bone things" are called vertebrae.

i agree with you ryan 100%. I have a friend who drives when he`s high, because he says he`s "a better driver when I`m high, because I`m more careful." I want to smack him every time I hear about it. It`s damn selfish
