    Aww... it`s broken.

But I probably wouldn`t return it at the moment. On-campus housing, tuition, bills, etc have to be paid. Then you can invest the rest of it or something.

o.O $20 and cookies for returning the money? Person that lost it could`ve at least given him $100 or something. Definitely not worthwhile.

But who leaves $108,000 lying around? Probably related to the lady that threw away the 200k. XD

I remember turning in a twenty i found once....They kept it for about a week before they just gave it back to me when no one claimed it. C: I also got candies and such. Being about 5 at the time, it was mind-blowing.

I would`ve kept it with no hesitation.

Or, if I WERE to return it, I`d take out a couple of thousand (maybe 10), and return the bag. ``Hey I found this bag, there`s about $98,000 in it.``

    It`s like half-honesty.

You people saying you would have kept the money are the LEAST logical of all of them, and here`s why. First of all, once people discover the money is missing they will start a hunt for it. If it`s a bank they`ll probably have a log of each individual number on each bill (and thus be able to hunt them down, ergo you`re in it for THEFT). Furthermore, saying you`d keep it is the type of moral degradation that`s causing our country to go down the pooter. You goddamn people wont even help the ELDERLY anymore, let alone return something someone lost. Who CARES if you get anything out of it! The first con to stealing it is exactly why it`s better to return it!

Bah, the elderly have to live in this country that`s going down the pooter, so by not helping them... we`re putting them out of their misery.

And not returning large sums of money left out in the open for a long period of time... well, that`s just teaching the people who lost the money responsibility.

    See, we are nice!

$20 bucks and cookies? That`s BULL.

They should have given him a LOT more than that.

They should give him FREE tuition at that school until he earn the degree of his choice at the very least.

I probably would have kept the bag, sat on it for about six months, and then started spending it... but very slowly so not to attract any unwanted attention from the authorities.

This was definatly the highlight of this whole article. Poor kid.

How anyone can lose that much money is incredible. As much as I would want to keep the money, I wouldn`t because its too risky especially for someone who`s 17. How are you going to explain that amount of money to anyone (your parents will notice). Depositing it in bank is out of the question as its now traceable and the irs might want to start asking questions.

To Jeremyhfht et al: Banks transport money by armed & armoured courier. The bags they use have built in locks (only way to open is pick lock or tear/cut bag.) The "bank bag" the article refers to is a rinky dink zippered bag used by businesses to transport receipts (money) to the bank for deposit. Even then, most businesses will use an armored courier service for amounts this large.

No company or institution I know documents every currency note they transfer. It`s time consuming and a complete waste of time damn-near all the time. Any dingdong dumb enough to misplace $108k certainly won`t do this.

Only way to get caught would be witnesses and/or sudden change in cashflow/unaccounted for income.

That said, moral superiority, $20, and a batch of homemade cookies isn`t too bad a deal. It`s more than he started with that day.

I would have returned it, because I`m not a thief. It isn`t about what I would get for returning it, it`s about me.

I`d like to be given a substantial reqard for returning it, but that wouldn`t affect whether or not I returned it.

The last time I found a wallet, I didn`t even look to see how much money was in it. I handed it into the police station. There was what appeared to be a wad of notes in it, visible without opening the wallet, but I didn`t take them because they weren`t mine.

yeah...that kid is a saint no doubt...the campus security folks are evil...I think I would have rather just gotten nothing...20 bucks probably would have just reminded me how much money I didn`t have.

Whatever...I guess he didn`t do it for the money.

however...I do have a story like this...I work at a ski resort and we found a wallet with 7 grand in it...the guy came back and he was from a different country and only cared about his ID, and was so thankful that we had it that he opened up his wallet to all of us at the desk and said we could take as much as we wanted...

None of us did...it was an awkward situation, but it was nice to see the guy so grateful...tho damn...he couls made us cookies or something...lol

Although i doubt i myself would return all the money, people people, you have to cheer on the kid. Just because the owners of the 108k didn`t reward the kid, you can`t justify evil with evil. He did something good, I feel bad for the kid, but I applaud him, he did not expect a hefty reward, but he did the right thing. A rare quality these days...

I dunno why this struck a nerve with me...hehe didn`t do it for the reward...and he deserves a golden statue in the middle of campus...but giving him that money is insulting his integrity or something...I`m sure a handshake and a "thank, kid" would have meant a lot more to him

thats not too bad of a reward. Some Russian guy left a 1723 Kiesewetter stradivarius violin in a taxi, and the taxi driver returned it. He got $100 in return. The violin was worth about $4 million. this happened back sometime in May i think

    Dead link.

God, I lost my wallet a while ago and some guy called me and had me meet him at a restaurant to return it. I checked my wallet, there was already money missing, and he`s sitting there expecting a friggen` reward or something. It was only when I asked where the hell the rest of my money was that he start sputtering and trying to say he didn`t take anything. Then his brother came up and was all, "Hey, did you get the money out of the wallet yet?"

Didn`t even know it belonged to me. Got my money back at least.... douche.

But this... dear god, I would have just kept it. I`m a starving college student, finding 108K on the ground? That`s God telling me UPGRADE YOUR APARTMENT! GET A NEW CAR! PAY OFF STUDENT LOANS! And... well... I`m not one to go against God.. soooo...

While part of me would like to think that I`d be an upstanding member of society, a larger part is saying that I`d totally keep that money in a bolted down security box only to use small quantities of cash at large stores. that way I could buy the things I need without having to take away from savings and without having to worry about paying bills.
