While part of me would like to think that I`d be an upstanding member of society, a larger part is saying that I`d totally keep that money in a bolted down security box only to use small quantities of cash at large stores. that way I could buy the things I need without having to take away from savings and without having to worry about paying bills.

Dead link.

God, I lost my wallet a while ago and some guy called me and had me meet him at a restaurant to return it. I checked my wallet, there was already money missing, and he`s sitting there expecting a friggen` reward or something. It was only when I asked where the hell the rest of my money was that he start sputtering and trying to say he didn`t take anything. Then his brother came up and was all, "Hey, did you get the money out of the wallet yet?"

Didn`t even know it belonged to me. Got my money back at least.... douche.

But this... dear god, I would have just kept it. I`m a starving college student, finding 108K on the ground? That`s God telling me UPGRADE YOUR APARTMENT! GET A NEW CAR! PAY OFF STUDENT LOANS! And... well... I`m not one to go against God.. soooo...

I would have returned it, because I`m not a thief. It isn`t about what I would get for returning it, it`s about me.

I`d like to be given a substantial reqard for returning it, but that wouldn`t affect whether or not I returned it.

The last time I found a wallet, I didn`t even look to see how much money was in it. I handed it into the police station. There was what appeared to be a wad of notes in it, visible without opening the wallet, but I didn`t take them because they weren`t mine.

To Jeremyhfht et al: Banks transport money by armed & armoured courier. The bags they use have built in locks (only way to open is pick lock or tear/cut bag.) The "bank bag" the article refers to is a rinky dink zippered bag used by businesses to transport receipts (money) to the bank for deposit. Even then, most businesses will use an armored courier service for amounts this large.

No company or institution I know documents every currency note they transfer. It`s time consuming and a complete waste of time damn-near all the time. Any dingdong dumb enough to misplace $108k certainly won`t do this.

Only way to get caught would be witnesses and/or sudden change in cashflow/unaccounted for income.

That said, moral superiority, $20, and a batch of homemade cookies isn`t too bad a deal. It`s more than he started with that day.

How anyone can lose that much money is incredible. As much as I would want to keep the money, I wouldn`t because its too risky especially for someone who`s 17. How are you going to explain that amount of money to anyone (your parents will notice). Depositing it in bank is out of the question as its now traceable and the irs might want to start asking questions.

Bah, the elderly have to live in this country that`s going down the pooter, so by not helping them... we`re putting them out of their misery.

And not returning large sums of money left out in the open for a long period of time... well, that`s just teaching the people who lost the money responsibility.

See, we are nice!

You people saying you would have kept the money are the LEAST logical of all of them, and here`s why. First of all, once people discover the money is missing they will start a hunt for it. If it`s a bank they`ll probably have a log of each individual number on each bill (and thus be able to hunt them down, ergo you`re in it for THEFT). Furthermore, saying you`d keep it is the type of moral degradation that`s causing our country to go down the pooter. You goddamn people wont even help the ELDERLY anymore, let alone return something someone lost. Who CARES if you get anything out of it! The first con to stealing it is exactly why it`s better to return it!
