``It is difficult to tell if your child is normally tired, or has extreme tiredness after running around in the pool``

Running? Ive heard of this before, its a bit scary though now thinking about it..

"I went to his room, and I saw a WHITE, SPONGY LIQUID on him!"
Lol

Why do they have to tell everyone watching that he peed himself in the pool? He`s dead, and they tell practically the whole world that he peed in the pool. 1st time in pool?

"Like, you wouldn`t expect there to be many swimming pools in Alaska."

North Carolina isn`t hot. Who bathes a 10 year old? And what`s up with the clucking stereotype that blacks can`t swim? Just cause you dont see them often doesn`t mean they can`t swim.

Why the hell do you get hung up in the mother not seeming sad?

Some people are just emotionally stronger than other people.

To everyone who commented about drinking too much water causing drowning, I thought you drowned because your body became overly saturated and the water seeped into your brain causing it to swell.
Actually, let me look it up...
Water Intoxication

That isn`t what happened to this little boy though, the water eroded the inside of his lungs after he inhaled it making it progressively harder for him to breathe. That really is pretty horrifying. Being a parent must be scary.

Dry Drowning? As a lifeguard, I understand this is a very real way to die. And it sucks. Bad

Some of your comments are really funny. In a "humanity is doomed" kind of way.
Have some respect and sensitivity. A kid died for crying out loud. Who cares if he`s black, or his mum bathed him, or she didn`t seem upset.
I for one thing this is scary stuff. Poor lad.

I hate how reporters always do these "on-site" reports that are totally unrelated. She was at a public pool in a completely different part of the country. Why!? What was the point?

First of all, is this kid "special"? I have noticed, as others have, that she said she bathed him. Wtf, who bathes a fourth grader?
Also, the reporter said he "soiled" himself while swimming. Ok.... yeah, I think they left out the fact that this kid is *ahem* stupid, or mentally retarded (no offense to anyone).

hmmm. I know that if you drink too much water (like loads, more than just a few litres), it gets `trapped` in your body, and all it can do is seep into your lungs, which then causes you to drown. So im guessing this is something similar to that, but he inhaled the water directly, rather than drinking so much it just passed into the lungs. :s

^ yeah, the reporter says alot of kids will go swimming this summer.... Thanks to this video.. no kids will be due to mom freakout.

Guys, it`s not about him swallowing the water, that was an error. It`s about him inhaling it, getting it into his lungs, where they are then damaged. Scary stuff-good way to freak out every parent alive.

this is possible. when teaching children to swim you do have to be aware of how much water they do take it. WE mainly watch out for it infants, blue tinge around the mouth, bloated stomach and lethargy. it`s the first thing they teach you in Infant aquatics. Theres not a lot of emphahsis on it older children though. I know when i teach i have to let a mother know if her child has taken in too much water, not because of this reason, there are other medical reasons involved.
But it`s also a something in lifeguarding as well. any person that has had a near drowning experience is watched out for by the lifegurad or taken to hospital (depending on the descion at the time) to look for the symptoms of this occuring. hope this helps

An olympic swimming pool has about 500`000 gallons of water. Even if all 1000 people who visited the place peed a litre, it`d be 0.05% pee. Not counting of course that pee is mostly water. (A HELL of a lot of water if you can pee a litre).

Pee is also technically sterile/clean. The germs in pee mostly come from contact with the surrounding genitals, which the pool water is already in contact with. PLUS a pool happens to have more chlorine to kill the germs than average water.

So Saisay is scared of pool water? Now THAT`s a retard.

The mother starts to lose it at the end. I think she was just trying to keep her composure in front of the camera. Personally, I find that refreshing...I`m sick of seeing people crying just because somebody points a camera at them. American Gladiators interview sessions are a PRIME example of that! We`ve become a culture that celebrates victimization and it is, frankly, pathetic.

That was messed up.

NBC can`t do a news story to save their lives.

First they had a reporter go out to stand in front of a pool. Thanks, I didn`t know what a pool looked like.

They said he swallowed water. Which isn`t what happened. He inhaled it.

It was his first swim at 10 years old.

His mom bathed him. Strange for a kid being 10.

And I don`t know about the rest of you but I have never tried to arouse a toddler. I save that for adults.

1. 10-15% is actually a lot. i can`t believe i`ve never heard of it

2. *I* saw the hurt in the mothers eyes! she did not try to murder him! plus, i asked my mom once how much money she`d get from life insurance if i died, and it wasn`t a lot-and he`s YOUNGER than me. there`s no motivation.

(not that money is an appropriate motivation, but it`s a common one)

Also, him not swimming until 4th grade isn`t unheard of. Especially if they are from some place that`s normally really cold. Like, you wouldn`t expect there to be many swimming pools in Alaska. For all we know they just moved to that area recently so he can finally go swimming.

Actually, don`t you remember the news article of the drinking water for the Wii? It is easy to drown by drinking too much water, I`m pretty sure some of it goes back up into your lungs, and seeing water is much heavier then air, it will stay in your lungs, and water does have some oxygen, so at first it probably wouldn`t be noticed, until it starts completely blocking your airways. and you can drink a LOT of water your first time swimming... and he`s bound to have inhaled a bit too.

i thought the mom would at l;east be a little bit sadder than what she was.

and the kid, his first time swimming? in 4th grade?

maybe the mother poisioned him. think about it. she wasnt that sad, and she had said that he soiled himself, oh, i dont know, maybe shes covering up something. shes murderer!

"BLACK PPL CANT SWIM!"

Ignorant much? Yea, I`ll say.

ANYWAYS.

The mom said that the kid soiled himself in the pool. Maybe it has to do with an infection he was suffering from already? And yes, the mom didn`t seem that upset. Just a little...which is odd.
