Schools are too controlling. I agree that there should be guidelines and things to prevent extremes, but a haircut isn`t exactly the crime of the century. I think there must be more important things for them to whine about.

That is utterly ridiculous. It`s a fkn haircut!! If it were some crazy scene hair with purple streaks and neon colors, yes, understandable...what is exactly wrong with that kids hair as to be unacceptable? Schools are getting really ridiculous, my own included, two kids recently got expelled for something completely not school related.

That women is retarded for trying to pretend its not a mohawk, and that school is about a billion times more retarded for having a problem with it.

Have you noticed that there have been more incidents like this in elementary schools? If this happened in a high school, the school admin knows there would be a huge protest.

Elementary students just don`t yet have their individuality. And today those anonymous are easier to pick on.

"hairstyles and slogans on shirts do not "distract from the educational process". Boobs do distract, and thus, from what that principal said, should be banned from schools."

Yikes. This reminds me of this primitive tribe I saw on tv once where the mothers press down on their young daughters` breasts with, I believe, a long thick stick with the heated end being used so as to flatten them and make the girls` developing bodies "slow down" as as not to distract the boys. It causes severe mental and physical damages in the long run. And is extremely painful for the girls who have to go through it.

My first high school put you in detention for wearing black socks with your uniform. The uniform being black trousers, shoes, blazer, white shirt and school tie. You`d think that black would be the most sensible colour to wear under black, but i guess not. It was white or grey.

Bekll, you got it wrong. It`s not so that it won`t distract the boys, it will keep the boys from seeing them as women and the girls won`t be tempted to start dating (have sex, get married drop out of school or whatever). It`s an attempt to keep them as little girls for as long as possible so that they can get an education.

Someone slap that principal. Plus it was said that the boy had that haircut for awhile but it only became an issue just recently. The only thing it seemed to distract were the teachers, I think the teachers have severe ADD. :D

I had pink & blonde dreadlocks 5 times when i was at school, and the 6th time i had a green fringe as well, and i got suspended. They said te fringe wasnt a problem, so why was the dreadlocks? Especially after id had them in 5 times before. Scools are just making rules up as they go along.

This is one of the reasons i dropped education as a major, because i didn`t want to have to deal with politics like this in a school. There is probably more to the story than what the news put out, but if the real details were revealed there would be ground for a lawsuit. For example, they had a parent teacher conference and they may have discussed the boys attitude in class, the teacher or principle may have said soemthing about it, and the parents got in a tiff over it. 4 or 5 months pass and the kid gets grief over the parents behavior or reaction towards the school and so the school finally drops the end all be all hammer, making the parents do what the school wants by holding expulsion and truancy laws over their heads. This is just one of many possible scenerios that may have happened because those are scenerios ive seen happen in my experience.

I`ll bet that a haircut like that isn`t mentioned in the student handbook. The parents can bring up that point and he will have to be allowed back to school. One of the good things about public schools is the ability to express yourself. This school should go private if they have such a problem with it.

I`ll admit though, the way it is looking more and more is that schools all across the US are trying harder and harder to strip individuality and the ideas of freedoms from kids. It sounds conspirical, like some crazy person`s conspiracy theory, but i can almost believe it. You think of school as a primer for life, and if the school strips individuality and basic constituitional freedoms away from the minds of our children, then the conclusion behind this math problem makes it look like the future for these kids is more of what they have had to deal with already in school, right? Looking back i see when this all began. I was in highschool in the early 90s when the new rules began coming down. If you got in a fight, even if you didn`t start it, didn`t throw a punch to fight back, or do anything to defend yourself, the rule was, you got expelled, the police were called in, the school pressed charges and you could see juvee jail time.

heres another scary (and possibly crazy) thought. Look at the similarities between how the public (and many private) school systems reacted from columbine, and how our own governement reacted from 9/11. Public and private schools all over the country tightened rules, firt by not allowing kids to wear trenchcoats, then they said you could only have clear backpacks, then it was no backpacks, then no coats except when you arrive to school and only put them in your locker, then it was no football jerseys. Metal detecters in schools that have never had problems. the invent of the zero-tolerance policy. The same stuff happened to the country, the patriot act, and stupid restrictions on travel. I can`t take deoderant or cologn with me on a plane, i can`t pass through checkpoints with a mountain dew. Now schools are saying what kinds of haircut your kids can have, is that the same direction our government is headed? Please God i hope not.

Mostly EVERYTHING is distracting to education and they are just using that wording to impose their BS. It has NOTHING to do with distraction.

It`s obvious that these people are super conservative and they are just trying to impose their views on kids. I think it`s ok to use these rules to reduce attention-whoring which is annoying in some cases, but this is OBVIOUSLY not that.

Teachers never seemed to realize that the only way haircuts, and t-shirts, and such things are distracting, are whenever they start making a big deal about them. I would think the majority of the young population today would be used to things like that and wouldn`t find it distracting at all.

I`d be more distracted by someone with their hair all slicked back and wearing a sweater vest.

Also, this kid`s haircut doesn`t even look like a mohawk.

    1 - That`s not a mohawk.
2 - Prove in distracts from the "educational environment" in any manner.
3 - A school has no right to control manners such as hair. And that`s simply that.
    4 - Fail.

HAHAHAHA!!! That`s ridiculous, In year 8 of my old school my prinicipal told all the boys with long hair get it cut, but I didn`t and I was gonna sue the school over it and they dropped it fairly quickly. I still have long hair and now this year, one year later, the school is closing down :D. It`s a shame though, I kind of liked my old school but my favourite teachers all left :(

    Major wtf factor :/
There is NOTHING distracting about that haircut. NOTHING. It`s not offensive, it`s not huge and spiky and distracting, it doesn`t have anything inappropriate on it.
And, they said the kid had the SAME haircut for a while. Why are they saying there`s some issue with it now? What`d some teacher read that said that those haircuts `mean` something? Besides, the kid`s what? Elementary school? Dude, they`re too young to make "statements" at that age, in my opinion.
Seriously. This makes NO sense to me.
