So I pray for his family and the people who trusted him, and for everyone looking at this situation and losing more and more faith that Christians can have any good in them. It`s not about us though. We will fall- we`re not perfect. Only through Christ are we made clean, and I believe this man can be too.
So that`s my thoughts...Oh, and to all who are saying this happened because he`s "sexually repressed"- I`ll just say- that`s not true with all o
My husband is a minister. We are saddened and disgusted by this. The anger I feel when I hear of yet another church leader doing something so incredibly stupid...
But I also, somewhat, understand. When you`re in a position of leadership (not just in a church) there is an expectation of "perfection" and that you`re not tempted by anything. And sadly, especially in the church, there is little grace or mercy and most leaders feel they can`t be honest about struggles they are having. So these temptations keep building and there are little "slip ups" and it becomes a cycle of great regret and vowing to change and then falling again and not being able to ask for help. The risk of being condemed is too great in most cases. So it gets worse and worse and, I believe, the devil gets more and more of a foothold. (continued...)
the Catholic church has friggin priests
a box a of magnum condoms... and it wasn`t like it was a smaller box either, it looked like a 16 pack... which means 1 of 2 things to me. 1 the box is there to psyche the 13 yo girl out and make her think she`s getting a real "stud", meanwhile he`s either got a box of normal condoms he will actualy use, or a box of rubber bands. OR he planned on a long visit in which case that girl might not have seen the light day for a while.
I`m from Sydney, and there are a number of our citizens who, being followers of Christ, give their all for the people around them. Father Chris O`Reilly works with homeless kids, and has an amazing ability to identify with them. Paul Moulds heads the Salvation Army`s Oasis Support Network in Redfern. No person, homeless, drug-addicted or otherwise, is too difficult for him to turn away. Before I moved from the area to be closer to work, I was inspired by my former minister`s tireless work for his small church. He lives, breathes and works the life of Jesus.
May we, if we are to say how bad Christians are, also show that some of them are doing good things?
Christianity teaches sexual maturity and responsibility, anything else (i.e. chastity for life) is taught by the MAN MADE churches.
Please stop screwing our children.
Regards,A concerned parent."
please stop stereotyping based on a VERY small percentage of people
Regards, A person who doesn`t want their children to be as closed minded as people like you
They do it because they don`t think they will get caught. It`s the whole "untouchable" thing that the Christians have going on.
This is just one more example of how they are just as subject to consequences as the rest of us are.
I just wonder what the people who attend his megachurch think about all of this.
Ya know I can`t think why people think it`s the ministers all the time...
Do i need to explain this?
I understand your concern, but not only Christians screw around on kids. And not all Christians do.
Regards, A concerned parent.
A man in his position should be setting a better example!
It was probably something that started off small and got out of hand.
They asked "in what way could you see yourself screwing this ministry up?" and the answer was usually "Sexual misconduct" or "Money problems"
The protestant church generally wants it`s pastors to admit when they have problems and help them. I`m sure everyone`s really glad he`s outed.
PS- I don`t think he was a children`s pastor
The sad part is that you actually don`t see it. It`s worse than the blind faith of any theist. It`s illogical. It`s stupid. It`s ignorant. And I`ve watched people do it for years.
LOOK at the numbers. Unfortunately in the world we live in we would EXPECT well over 20`000 pedophiles in the clergy. Well over 100`000 worldwide, and all in all this is nothing compared to the ~100`000`000 pedophiles in the world.
The thing is, no dad is going to sit there and go "Omg, drating fathers! They`re to blame!", nor is anyone who likes their dad, or has experience with a regular parent. Has a friend who is a dad. Etc.
But see a priest do it and you can make a stereotype. And you do.
Is that your problem, not the priesthood?
Only counting Catholic priests, there are just over 400`000 men, 2/3 of religious leaders in Christianity.
And yet, the problem lies with about 5% of the male population as a whole. Which is why almost 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys are abused.
Out of the 400`000, you would expect 20`000 to be pedophiles if the priest population were just like other men.
Considering pedophiles often CHOOSE positions of power over children (Mayor/Teacher/Stepfather/Minister/Policeman), you would expect the numbers to be higher.
Ministers can get married, priest cant.
There are Catholic Ministers?
They should make a NBC miniseries thats about busting pastors.
and ill keep it to myself
