Even though I`m gay, I agree that he should be going after the prom king title. I actually had a friend who was gay win it! But yeah, this takes the `queen` title to new lows, and what`s worst, this reflects on the rest of the gay community.

Besides,it`s probably just the next step of breaking boundaries. Remember when gay couples couldn`t go to prom? In some places it`s still like this yes, but at my high school this was absolutely no big deal. I guess this guy just wants to see how many feathers he can ruffle..

ha i mean i`ve been to 5 proms and... pretty much the whole king and queen thing never really matters... ha its like a 30 second award and then you`re back to your business...
I do feel bad for the kid however... meh

I`m in no way against gays or lesbian, but this is just stupid! The whole point of it is to be as a court, one queen(woman), one king(man). Just because he`s obviously gay, doesn`t make him a female. He should not be in the running for queen! It`s stupid that this is even an argument. Unless he has the surgery, he shouldn`t be able to run for QUEEN!

No one else has said it yet.

King = male, Queen = Female. Doesn`t matter if you`re gay. It just shows your gender. Grow the drat up and get over it.

see now this kid is a fag...

not in a gay-bashing way though...he just is defining himself by his sexual orientation

like that asshat who only talks about wanting to get laid and who he slept with, this is the kind of guy who added a lisp in 9th grade and promotes a narrow stereotypical view of gay people

he`s not gay...i know gay people and they don`t act like morons...this is the stereotypical view of a gay man...who will no longer simply be gay as he is an embarrassment to gay people who wish to be taken seriously...so he can have the tile fag

there are gay people and there are fags...just like there are straight ppl and just plain whores

A gay guy at a school near mine was nominated for homecoming queen and he won! it was really awesome lol

Yeah, I have to agree that the title should fit the gender. But I`m surprised that his classmates are so supportive of him and his preference, I know for sure my school would never nominate someone who was gay or a lesbian. Unless they did it just as a joke, which is totally something my school would do.

I think it`s a high school dance and a stupid tradition that doesn`t drating matter regardless of the outcome. I can`t believe people are actually debating over this.

"okay, one thing no one has mentioned...what if he DID win queen and had to dance with the king...what if the king was a homophobe huh?

i mean, the dude would be a douche, but i think the school should ask all the kings and see if any of them mind dancing with a gay guy, then based on that, make the final decision..."

I agree with this. Except I wouldn`t speculate about him being a homophobe. For the school to nominate a gay boy as QUEEN, they have to have a pretty hardy sense of humour and I don`t think they`d nominate someone too serious or un-cool with things if that`s the case.

But I agree, he might not want him Prom king dance to be with a guy so I say they ask the guys if they`d be ok with having their prom dance with a guy and have that being the deciding factor.

Lulz for the chick being his date for from, right?

"I took the prom queen to prom."
"You`re a lesbian?"
"No."
"What?"
"It was a guy."

queen=female

sexual preference has nothing to do with it.

`nuff said.

Jesus Christ The Lord is born. This is stupid. King and Queen is based on your gender, not your sexuality. I`m sure it would piss off the possible Prom Queens that they were beat by a gay guy and piss of the Prom Kings as they`re Queen would be a man. This is stupid.

Ok Im gay, but what a f*cking fag! Prom King = MALE, Prom Queen = FEMALE, its nothing to do with whether you`re a `queen` as in the gay slang.

"msimmons... you`re taking queen too literally...i was going to retort to you, but just grow up."

Do explain to me how Prom King and Queen are not meant to be specifically male and female respectively.
There`s nothing wrong with assuming that a Queen should be a female. Sure, there`s the definiton of queen relating to a flamboyant homosexual, but I hardly think that`s the case for a Prom Queen.

That is, my view has nothing to do with growing up.

First of all, You shouldn`t want to "overcome men" Isn`t that what women are fighting for? Neutrality? Unless you meant you wanted to overcome the PROBLEMS, and not the men.

Second of all, I think you meant to say he "shouldn`t" be going for prom queen, which I agree with.

oh and i think that he should be going for prom queen... come on women have enough problems overcoming men in positions of power!!

The article said " Who are the administration to say he can`t run for prom queen"

oh, gee, I dunno... Maybe the ADMINISTRATION. And besides, as someone before me said, A queen is a woman... A kind is a male. It has nothing to do with sexual preference. Even I(being bi) think that this kid is being very dumb.

am i the only one that raised their eyebrows that the gay student`s date to prom was named Madeline? that name seems pretty....feminine to me

umm it sounds feminine because he is going to the prom with a female friend...

I believe in gay rights-- I`m bisexual myself-- but I still believe you should go for the title your gender fits. Besides, if Prom King is straight, how would HE feel?

Kings are men, Queens are female.
If the gay guy in question was a transexual/transgender, I`d have no issue with him running for prom queen.
People like that identify with the opposite sex.
This guy, however, is gay. A gay guy is not a female guy. He`s just a guy who likes other guys.

Sad day for girls when a gay guy wins prom queen. Also, I`m pretty sure the word queen implies a female. If you look it up on dictionary.com calling a gay guy a queen is `Slang: Disparaging and Offensive.` Oh well.

stop with the first!

you can look at it another way and say he is being sexist by suggesting that the prom king cannot be gay and that since he is gay he should automatically accept the notion that he should run for queen.

My sister`s prom queen was a lesbian, and the king gay. Why couldn`t they have just switched titles?
