Just one more thing you can"t do if you go to this Minneapolis school.

Yeah, like leesah said, I`d arrange a game of Red Rover or something. At school I used to play Chicken, where 2 people run at each other and whoever moves out of the way first loses... I got hurt playing that, especially since I only played with boys.

Stupidest rule ever.

It`s just senseless. It`s not going to make the kids stop rough-housing.
It`ll probably just make the kids save everything until after school, where they can beat kids up without teachers getting involved. B-|

and everyone has to experience hurt from playing around! if animals do it, so can we.. geesh, i bet it`s an instinct to run around with other humans, and push and tackle and all that... we may not need to hunt things to survive, but its apart of life. and it helps kids become social and all that

well that`s intensely gay.

my generation better set things straight! god, people want to treat little kids in such a way that they`ll grow up to be pricks, and unsociable ones at that!
gah
makes me mad >.<

Maybe they can`t afford to hire playground supervising to tame games like tag or such vigorous recreations. In any case, they might as well say "no play". Society is going down the tube lately,eh? ~_~!

One more reason it sucks to be a kid these days.
How do we expect to raise a cohesive next generation if we alienate them from each other right from the beginning?
EPIC FAIL!

in 5 years time kids will be sitting in a corner, silently, reading or writing for their home/school work (which would have increased to at least 7 hours extra a day). they will have lost the ability to connect with real people or talk properly. they will all be seeing psychatrists. any friends that they make will be few, and specially selected to them by schools and will only talk to each other through text (of course which will be monitered and controlled to a certain amount of time per day). they will be banned from eating anything but organic and vegan, allergy safe food or playing video or computer games. but its okies people because at least our children will be safe from bruises, scrapped knees, bulling, obesity or shock horror... broken bones!

sigh, I used to work at a elementary school as a playground supervisor when I was in high school, the rules they had there pissed me off soooo much, no tag, no running, if you shirt lifted up just a little when you were on the monkey bars, you couldn`t be on them, which was a kinda odd one because all the kids were under 8 that I watched, I highly doubt these kids even knew modesty.

they cant act like kids anymore!

and in the eastern US we call it Chicken, not ostirich fighting, no offence but the european way of saying it is kinda weird, ostiriches cant mount each other (no pun intended) (yes u can put a chicken on a chicken, but it probably wont work too well)

This is beyond stupid.

Jeez, I got knocked down and all the fun stuff when I was on the playground and I grew up fine from that. (Thank you Red Rover!) I sorta miss recess now.

If we try to over protect our children, they never learn their lessons/will be messed up adults. >_< Oh I just can`t wait for my generation to grow up and fix society. (Well I can hope.)

Hmm, probably another "god bless america" +"sarcasm" comment but still.

I remember breaking pretty much each and every bone of my body probably twice in my childhood, altho I did survive, so common kids won`t have any problem. pff overprotective parents + dumb asses = those policy xD

Bad idea. I hate it when people think that you have to protect children from everything. Its impractical to try to keep them in a glass bubble.

well look at the bright side, If someone from Truth watches this they might find someone to be in their next commercial.
One time i was at school and some guy gave his girlfriend like just a peck on the cheek and a teacher came out and started screaming
"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU"RE DOING! THIS IS A SCHOOL! NOT A PLACE TO COME AND HAVE SEX! HOW COULD YOU EVEN DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN FRONT OF ME!?" and she was going on and on as i walked by

Hey MUSICISSWEET, I`m delighted that your are glad you live in Canada, and I`m sure many people are glad they live where they do, but if you`re trying to say that Canada is somehow free of morons in positions of power making stupid decisions... you may want to brace yourself for some bad news.

This is so stupid. Kids have got to have some physical contact with each other, I mean...damn. How are they supposed to play? What I remember about childhood is that I could play freely without worrying about whether or not I was allowed to high-five my friends.

I learned in my psychology class that kids (mainly boys) need to roughhouse a little bit...it`s just part of the way they grow and play. So depriving them of this is just wrong. Of course it can get out of hand, but with adults around to watch, it`s highly unlikely that they`re going to accidentally kill each other.

Awww... I miss Red Rover.
This is pretty ridiculous. I wouldn`t want my child going to a school that puts out over-generalized bans. I would understand if they were making an effort to ensure less bullying was going on in the playgrounds and if kids would get in more trouble if they were hurting other children, but to just say "don`t touch each other at all" is taking it too far. People these days are overly cautious, and it`s contributing to our violent society, not detracting from it.

wth? Unless there were kids cracking there skulls open, I really doubt this is necessary! Getting hurt is a part of life. Ooh, oh no, my child got knocked over and scratched up playing tag, his life is OVER, he`ll never succeed in LIFE! If I were those kids I`d arrange a playground-wide game of Red Rover just to piss off the administration.

and Zero Responsibility, excuse me, I mean Zero Tolerance scores another win!

Instead of taking responsibility for the students and actually trying to teach them, lets just ban everything instead!

no wonder kids come out of school with no clue as to how the real world works.

I would have thought the `no touching` rule should only apply to the old man with the beard and glasses exposing him self from beyond the school gates.

Seriously though, kids should be allowed to be kids. Its all the fault of the `sue` culture, and the `where theres a blame theres a claim`. Why di people want to wrap kids up in cotton wool? Why not just let them enjoy what little childhood they will have?

Kids rough house, they fight, That`s life. Good concept but they should maybe consider what will happen to these kids long term if they are basically, not allowed to act like kids. I kinda like the idea Bujoad said, but same thing, you shouldn`t but controls on something like that, fighting should just be dealt with case by case.

I would have no problem with it in my kids school, as long as it was no rough-house style touching. Kids like to hold hands, hug, and what not. That`s OK.

As for tag, change it to flag tag. Everyone but one person gets a flag, just like in flag football. The person without the flag is it. They have to get a flag from someone else, and then that new person without the flag is it. The only thing that really changes is the "no tag back" rule becomes "no flag back".

This is the complete opposite of a school I`ve heard of: They created a special area where children are allowed to push, fight, wrestle and stuff to keep that from spilling over to the rest of the playground.

And in 6th grade, we were always "ostrich fighting", where a person would ride on another person`s back (when the "mount" is standing), and you`d try to push the other rider off to the ground. And you know what? Teachers didn`t mind. In fact, the only deal they had with our sport is that one time, a guy took off his shirt because it was hot. Teacher comes to our part of the playground, "Put your shirt back on", "Ok", teacher leaves, fighting resumes.
