everyone is entitle to their Freedom of Speech

-the guy has the right to print off shirts about Obama being Curious George; racist or not. (I think Obama does (kinda) look like Curious George

-the people have the right to protest the shirts either if they are right or wrong (personally, i do not think it is racist. George Bush compare to a clueless monkey.....RACISTS!!!)

people, learn a lesson from Avenue Q. Everyone is a little bit racist. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tbud8rLejLM&feature=related

racism is bad, but thats a pic of a monkey. a cartoon monkey no doubt, now im not supporting racism or anything but somewhere alone the line people who protesting racism have taken a leaf out of teh evil book and decided taht any resemblance to what they havbeen referred to is a direct hit below the belt, its a monkey, your a couple evolutionary steps higher than that right? right. so if anythin i go with the shirt not saying "this obama cos hes a stereotype" im on with "this is obama cos hes an evolutionary degenerate" note the use of HE, thats HE as in HE I SHE, not THEM or THOSE or WE. just HE. HE is an evolutionary degenerate, not THEY. ok i think i made my point.

I really don`t find it racist and neither does my stepdad, he thinks it`s cute. My stepdad is black btw so HA!

They only see it as racist because they want to. Oh yeah, and because it was made by a white guy instead of a black guy. If a black guy had made the shirt they`d probably be all for it rather than protesting it.

And I totally agree, I`d rather vote for Curious George than Clueless George. But I hate how the candidates make it impossible to vote and not be accused of being racist or sexist because you didn`t vote for one or the other.

Okay, here`s how you work out whether something`s racist. In this instance:

1. I want to make a T-shirt criticizing Barack Obama in some way (not racist)

2. I want to depict him in a way that demeans him (mean, possibly ignorant, but not racist)

3. How about a monkey, even though I know quite well that one of the most significant put-downs I can lay on a black man is to call him a monkey? (Just an idea at this point, not actually ON the t-shirt yet, so no racist act has actually happened.)

4. I want to put that monkey on a shirt and compare him to Barack Obama, who I know to be a black man. (This is when it becomes racist. I`m not sure how so many people are missing this.)

It`s not a complicated issue. Comparing a black man to a monkey is racist because everyone knows it`s racist, bottom line. How conversations about race get so complicated and off topic I`ll never understand.

DON`T CALL BLACK PEOPLE MONKEYS!

I know..n00b. Just couldn`t hold off on this one

4.

I don`t think it`s intentionaly racist. I think people are overreacting. I think it looks like him...the ears, the hairline...and the fact that it`s Curious George makes a great analogy for Obama`s lack of experience.
I think it`s like a Rorschack test...people will see the intent that they want to see. If they are that concerned about racism, they`ll probably see it in LOTS of totally unrelated, innocent places.

It IS Curious George (the sh*tty new version, not the cute old version). They just fudged the coloring on the mouth and tongue.

And I could give a sh*t less about the shirt. Obama`s black, yes, we noticed. By law of nature jokes will be made. Stop acting like it`s huge news, "ZOMG PPL R MAEKIN FUN OV BLAK PPL NO WAI"

lol stfu nubs, mrwnt is right. That shirt is not racist at all. People of all races get compared to animals ALL THE TIME

ALLLLLLL THE TIIIIIME.

Yeah, there has been racism in the united states, and yeah, it still exists, but not as much as people want to believe. While in the minority any more, there`s alot of white people that hate and stereotype black people (like thinking they are always stupid, etc), but there`s also alot of black people that hate and stereotype white people (like thinking they are always racist, etc).

He said one particular black man is like a monkey because of appearance (and maybe inexperienced position)

If he`d had said all black men look like monkeys due to appearance, that`s an OBSERVATION.

If he`d had said all black men are stupid like monkeys, THAT would be racism.

I`ve met alot of stupid people in my life, but I have noticed that they are generaly spread out rather evenly throughout the different races, genders, religions, and otherwise.

It`s been said before, and it`s exactly right. Why is this rascist when a black politician is compared to a monkey versus when a white politician compared to a monkey isn`t? This is one of the most unbelieveable presidential races in history, because if you don`t vote for Obama you are a rascist, and if you don`t vote for Hillary you are a sexist. WTF? If anyone thinks that this shirt is rascist, you are more rascist than anyone who doesn`t because you alredy have a preconcieved notion of what race is and what it should be. The guy who made the shirt had no intention of making it about race, he is truly what we should try to emulate because he isn`t rascist at all. The issue of race never crossed his mind like it did to all the people screaming "rascist!" "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech...!!!"

well if it really wasn`t about race, then the guys would stop selling it, because they wouldn`t want to look racist, because they aren`t

but if it is about race, then that justifys why they were still selling the shirts after they were asked not to, because they want to make a point

i think it`s racist..
and it also didn`t help that it was a southern American selling the shirts
and then right after the narrator said "some people still support the shirt"
it cut to another southern American
that part made me lol

so yeah, i think it`s race.

I wasn`t born in Ireland, but no one refers to me as Irish-American. Where did this "African-American" BS come into play and why is it so accepted. You`re black, you`re white, you`re yellow. Guess what? We`re pretty much the same thing except that some people are idiots and some are good at hiding that they`re idiots.
I believe in evolution, therefore call me a chimp, ape, whatever. I could care less. Would have been racist had the chimp been holding a basketball or some watermelon. Right? Dumb asses need to lighten up `cuz the shirt isn`t violating the law. It`s all a matter of taste, like porn. Don`t like it, don`t buy it. Be proud that some dumb redneck had the brightest idea he`ll ever have. Now that`s funny.

By the way, the black man in the yellow shirt.. where`s his greencard? Nice Nigerian accent. Now he`s "African-American", that is, if he`s here legally.

I thought it was racist a little at first but really looking at it, I can kinda see Obama in the facial features, if he were to be cartoony. Otherwise, I really wouldn`t use that character myself for this reason.
And really, I`d like to say that if blacks didn`t want to be stereotyped, stop living up the stereotype. Not all do, but about 99% of the folks in my school are so I`m going by that. If you`re the other 1%, I apologize in advance.
As for the racism itself- all sorts of prejudism is silly and stupid. No matter if it`s race, religion, age, clique, if you hate a certain group just because of their stereotype or anything else- you`re a moron.
Yes, blacks were slaves and treated horribly. You know what? All races have been slaves at some point. Can we not accept everyone as people yet?

What`s worse is when people of any race say words like "Deplicted" on national TV and make themselves look like the stereotype they are trying to avoid.

Wait, so scientists say we come from monkeys but these people are denying this and getting mad at a guy for making a shirt with a monkey but not getting mad at the scientists? That aside, yeah racism happens still but I`ve seen more people be racist towards whites than towards blacks. Hell, I`ve been a victim of racism (I am a white female, most of them are black females although some are black boys) since middle school and have yet to be racists towards any of those people. I`ve been accused of being racist for not liking the black people who are mean to me, however. Black people always play it up as if they are the only victims when really, it`s the opposite.

I thought it was racist initially but after reading through some of the comments and giving it some thought, it`s not really.

It was said earlier by someone I can`t recall but it would only be racists if it referred to all African Americans as monkeys.

If it were, like, Winney the Pooh or something, this would not be an issue. Only because African Americans were referred to as "monkeys" by some in the past is this an issue.

And plus it`s true, he DOES look like Curious George.

Looks more to me like they were just saying Obama is stupid like curious George. Just cause blacks have been depicted as monkeys doesn`t mean that that is what they meant. Oh just saying I don`t recall mrwnt saying racism doesn`t happen. Just that people are over sensative when it comes to things that may have to do with race which is often true.

mrwnt: (What you meant:) Skin colour isn`t important, your race doesn`t matter as long as you`re a good person.

(What you actually said) Blacks need to learn that very few people in America care whether they`re black or white, and we`re not all out to get them and that you aren`t always victimized in America.

It doesn`t matter the race group that is the victim, or how much it takes place, it matters because it`s still racist.

And the T-Shirt can be considered racist, cause Obama is African American and Curious George is a "monkey", and the fact that Curious George also has dark fur can tie-in everything. Even if it wasn`t meant to be racist, people can still find it racist.

things I thought when i saw the T shirt
1) its showing his inexperience
2) ears/hairline (yes really)
3) Oh racists call black people monkeys
Honestly, I think the shirt could be used as racists propaganda, but they were intended to show his inexperience and some physical resemblance, which is what people do with bush ALL THE TIME. but in America someone tells a white person they look like a monkey its funny, but if you tell it to a black person, it`s a hate crime... Also, that guy said "diplictions" instead of dipictions :P

Wow, mrwnt, you`re ignorant. Yes, folks can be over sensitive on racist topics, but just because you don`t observe, experience, become privy to, or participate in racism, does not mean that it is not happening. You make a generalization on something that you probably have very little experience with. Just because you don`t care, doesn`t mean that people don`t actually suffer from the emotional damage that racism gives.

As far as the shirt goes, though. That`s pretty bad, I don`t think that it`s a harmless coincidence. There are a lot of other things that he could be compared to, but a monkey?

for god`s sake why is america so hyper-sensitive about race. Both whites and blacks hear anything observe anything that even touches on race and they call it racist, no matter what it was

rush limbaugh was crucified for saying that people wanted a black qb to succeed. That`s the opposite of racism if anything! but people heard the word black and labeled him a racist

This is not racist. Why should this be any different than how Bush is depicted as a monkey because of his big ears? Blacks need to learn that very few people in America care whether they`re black or white, and we`re not all out to get them.

Blacks, you aren`t always being victimized in America! despite that fact that many of you try to guilt-trip whites with histrionics and self-pitying
