Yippee! Same-sex marriage is coming to America! How will it affect the kids of these bonds of holy matrimony?

FancyLad, thank you SO MUCH for singling out pretentious ultra-liberals!! But just a tiny FYI: You left out the option "I`m a Bible-pounding ultra-conservative and I`m offended that this is even a poll question."

Legacy15 I grew up with two moms but it did not "affect" my sexual preferences. I am straight if anyone was wondering but I think that being gay is not a choice so having parents of the same sex won`t affect your sexual preferences. But since being gay is socal outlawed, I think it makes you more kinder to people who are differnt.

With my parents being the only I known.
No I mean I met my friends parents and stuff.

y moms are the only parents I have ever known.
Same with sarah_purr kind of hard to explainz unless you wanna know how I was born. You see there was this stork that flew in the window and droped me at the door....... =P

Legacy15:

Don`t be nervous! I get questions all the time. Really, having same-sex parents has not affected my sexual preferences. I guess one day it was like... "Oh... so people can like or love anyone that they want to. Okay." At first I only knew of same-sex, and then my parents friends (and my friends parents) all of a sudden had `Daddies`. It wasn`t really life-changing. I was a kid, so it was just something that I accepted. I guess it set me up to be accepting my entire life. I accept just about anything that comes toward me.

My moms are the only parents I have ever known... it`s really hard to explain unless you want to ask how I was born.

As a person with lesbian mothers, you DO get a lot of heat for it. It hurts too. I don`t think that my parents will get married until my state makes it legal. But yes, if that happens, I think I would only tell my close friends.

My mom is gay and I never really been bugged about it.
I mean rarely someone will say something once they find out but nothing really cruel and then never say anything else about it.

Well, Duststorm, kids are different, they are not open to the world, nor do they know much about it, only being atched by family and being with friends. So, they don`t know that some people are different than others and all women don`t love men and the same with men.

Well, those kids will be made fun of! Not that it`s right, but they will, they are different. We are in America, and being different is a SIN! Which is nuts, and is meant to tease a child, or anyone, on their beliefs and ideas, as well as love life. And, they only pick on each other for a few reasons:
Get it at home
Bored
Media
And adult influences.
Some of those reasons arew a little, if-ey, true but are actual reasons. So, yes, i voted they`d get picked on, which is cruel and mean, and something i`d never take part in. :-)

Let the battle of the most retarded post begin.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + +

And it`s fitting that you`re "FIRST!!!111!" then, isn`t it?

--------------------------------

I really don`t care if I`m first or not. It`s just that some people think their pointless arguments about religion, homosexuals etc. will actually make people think differently and change their point of view.

Ya know, bigotry is a dying force in this country and I really feel like the up-and-coming generation will be the culmination of the color-blind, equality for everyone mindset. Because it is the one that works. For this reason, kids with gay parents will not be looked at any differently than kids with straight parents. Of course, this is still a long way off... 2 states down, 48 more to go.

^^ Pabasa "Considering there`s lots of single parents today, it`s a moot point now. Gay parents could even be better than single parents, who knows."

Dammit Pabasa, you made me think, or rethink. You know what, you`re right, a kid would be better off with two parents (regardless of gender) if the alternative is single-parenthood, which is tough. And yes, I`m a dad.

Husky has a good point also... OK, so I`ll reconsider my thoughts (I won`t delete my earlier post, let`s leave it hanging there as an evolution of a thought which was maybe ill-concieved by me).

IAB making me rethink my life values, who woulda thunk it?

I`ll agree with what`s been said, being that kids get picked on in school for other reasons anyway, and this is just another reason.
But the good thing that comes out of this is that it`s actually on its way to one day becoming a norm. It`s now or never. There`s no doubt it will be rough for these kids nowadays because they`re pioneers, but many generations later children of gay parents won`t really have to worry like today.
In response to davymid, I think gay parents can parent as well as straight ones. :p

^ I agree, to an extent.

Optimal parents are one mum and one dad. Child needs to see the world from both sides. That doesn`t mean that unorthodox can`t produce good children, it`s just that one good father and one good mother gives the kid good balance during growth.

Considering there`s lots of single parents today, it`s a moot point now. Gay parents could even be better than single parents, who knows.

OK, so I`m as liberal as they come. I`m 100% for same-sex marriages, religious tolerance, maximum gun control, free health care, and of course I think George Wanker Bush is the antichrist. Hell, strap a pair of wings to my back and I`d be a goddamn fairy.

But in my humble opinion, gay couples should not be parents, in the same way that Young Earth Creationists shouldn`t be science teachers. You have your lifestyle (and I firmly believe it`s not a "choice" to be gay) and that`s cool, but a kid needs a mum and dad, not two dads, or to mums.

But then, that`s just me.

They probably will get picked on for that but if their parents weren`t same sex they would get picked on for something else

i reckon as gay becomes more and more a part of the norm and more "advertised" with more publisity as somethingnatural the more and more people wll eventually accept, andthe next generation will be raised with that image, so bullying wont be a problem.

Everyone except the cool kids gets bullied anyway. They`re all waiting for the proper occasion.

One issue I have is why so many people are up in arms about the `destruction of the sanctity of marriage` and crap like that with gay marriage. Considering the fact that divorces is rising way too high, marriage is not going to be sanctitious (is that even a word?) anyway. Go whine about that instead.

The only reason kids would be giving their peers crap about this is because they learned it from their parents or other important adult influences.

The people who pick on these kids are the same people who pick on everone else, so no matter what, kids are gonna get picked on for something. If it`s not this then it`s just something else, and it`s a part of life, nothing to worry about too much.

When I was in elementary school, my best friend`s parents were lesbians. I didn`t know this and my friend called the other woman in the house her aunt. Other parents apparently told their children what it was, though, because I have a very clear memory of an older girl taunting my friend about her parents being lesbians and I defended my friend. These days, I wonder how much of that my friend went through when I wasn`t around.
It`s really very sad...the kids probably would have had no problem with it if it wasn`t for their parents telling them it was "bad".

Everyone gets picked on at school, regardless your parents. They might get picked on a lot or a little depending on what grade they`re in and how many people know/even care about their parents.

meh kids will rip on them but i dont totally agree with it any ways but still shouldnt be teased its not the kids fault ya know i mean seriously lolz

The fact that kids might get picked on doesnt mean that its not right. Kids get picked on for all sorts of things: ginger hair, being fat, not wearing the right clothes. At least if they have supportive parents, regardless of the sexual orientation, they might be able to deal with it better than kids with traditional parents deal with being picked on for traditional reasons!

Realistically, kids with same-sex parents won`t get picked on more than any other kid. They`ll just get picked on for having same-sex parents as opposed to something ELSE. Part of growing up in school is getting picked on. It`s always going to be something. I wouldn`t worry about it.

i think it kinda depends on the kids personality. If your a total nerd already then having same sex parents isn`t gonna help. But if your cool you might not get it so bad. idk just my thoughts...
