one of my friends attempted suicide... she almost burned her house down and I know she is alive but I don`t know what hospital she is in. It is awful because she was only twelve...

one. what is it with you and assuming there`s hackers crawling around IAB that can get you these things?

two. what the hell are you talking about? people are calling the band emo, so a bunch of emo`s are going to try and defend them by committing the biggest emo cliche there is?

three. people literally jump off of that bridge all of the time. if there were to be a documentary filmed on the topic, it wouldn`t be too hard to just set up cameras to cover the right angles and wait. Which is what happened.

OMG!!! this reminds me of something!!!!!
tomorrow somewhere in london, people are saying that the band my chemical romance is "emo" and there are like thousands of kids going to commit suicide because they want to stand up for mcr. i trust one of you hackers to give me more info, because i just heard today that it will happen, and i need to know more. because i used to be obsessed with mcr, now, not so much.

about the video: this cant be real. i dont see how someone could even catch footage of someone jumping off of a bridge. but, yes, thank you GGB for getting rid of the attention hungry emos out there.

Kasu-Chan, good point, and death can be a beautiful thing sometimes. However, in the case of suicides, I wonder what percentage of sucessful suicides had the person actually reach out for help.
0
Reply
Female 283
And yes, Akappy, suicide is very selfish, I agree. At the same time, if you`ve reached out, and no one was there to give any help, others may need to see what happens when they lack compassion.

I find death to be a very beautiful thing... I don`t know why, I have no desire to die myself, but I`m no longer afraid of it.

I was until... last week... then I just hit a realization, I can`t explain it. But I feel this life is here to teach us and teach others something, after we have learned what we need to know, we continue on into an expanse of nothingness, of no physical existence, of a single expanse of knowledge and thought. Nothing exists as it does here.

I was suddenly filled with calmness and a sense of beauty at this image, sudden peace.

As someone who has experienced his best friend committing suicide and seeing all of the people it DRAMATICALLY affects, I am standing by my statement that it is selfish. Think what you want.

That`s from the documentary, The Bridge. It`s very moving and well worth watching. During the making of it, the crew actually managed to prevent quite a few suicides. They had cell phones with the bridge patrol on speed dial. They interview the family and friends of people who had committed suicide and talk to them about the impact it had on them. It`s a very good film.

globpharm, wtf??? What I gathered from watching the docu was that his parents were deeply saddened by his death but on some level deep inside were a bit relived his suffering is over. It can`t be easy to be a parent of a child that is that messed up. Great parenting you say? Are you the parent of a severly depressed child? I don`t know a damn thing about you but walk a mile my friend.

This docu terribly sad. The complete desperation someone must feel to stand on the edge and make that choice, good god. Then the people left behind, I feel so bad for them too.

"Actually, I think this is part of that documentary where they actually filmed 23 out of 24 people who jumped in 2004. Kind of morbid; waiting all day for people to kill themselves."

They didn`t think to try and help these people??? That`s just so ridiculous.

There`s a famous bridge near where I live and I went across it for the first time a few weeks ago and it terrified me. They had all these bars and metal fences to try and prevent people from killing themselves, and they had suicide hotlines and phones there. It didn`t help that someone I knew of then went and jumped off that very same bridge the very next week.

i agree with ipirate

and back in the day back in the day. in the before times.

also suicide isn`t selfish, telling someone they shouldnt do it because youd feel bad is equally as selfish.

also they should try attatching bunjee cords to the bridge, that way if you regret it then its all fine, and if you want to do it again properly you can.

The movie is called The Bridge. They set up cameras on the Sausalito and San Fran sides of the bridge and filmed for a whole year. It`s actually well done.

But seriously, suicide is unfunny and selfish.

that was so sad. the whole time i was wanting one of the ladies to turn and say something to him. just imagine if you were standing right there and you saw him do that. it makes you think what if you could have been there to ask him what he was doing or smile at him or something if it couldve saved his life

The most messed up part in the whole documentary was when they interviewed one family and they said something like "he was going to do it anyway we couldn`t stop it." basically saying they knew their son was suicidal but were too lazy to do anything. Great parenting. you can understand why the kid killed himself. anyone else remember that?

You guys are also forgetting the factor of the high salt content in the water that flows under the GGB. It`s not just hitting the water at high speed that does it, it`s the fact that you basically land on a big block of salt--the bodies that are found often have several broken bones.
And yeah, this should`ve had a disclaimer on it. >.<

There`s a kid in the documentary that this was taken from who survived.

Not surprisingly, he confesses that his though process from the instant he became airborne was, "Oh sh*t! I f*cked up! I don`t wanna die after all..."

Its not the impact that kills you. When you hit the water, the wind gets knocked out of you because of the rapid deacceleration. If you manage to remain conscious long enough to gasp for air, you inhale water which fills your lungs and ultimately drowns you.

Stuff_to_do, it`s called a guillotine.

If the height is 67m (taken from Wikipedia as the clearance underneath) then a person would hit the water at around 80mph, or 130km/h. If you didn`t die immediately you would at least be knocked unconscious on impact, and would then probably drown.

Then we can blame God for making the water that killed the jumper in the first place!

I think this is the most horrible thing that ive ever seen. sure it may have some underlying positive message..but for those families to have their son.daughter.husband,wifes death filmed and sold in retail is horrible. its like selling a tape of someone who shot themselves in the head. its appalling

Good, die on impact. Now, the next question I have: does it hurt?
I know, it`s really stupid to ask that. But I want a death like the French thing thats cuts your head. (Not sure how to spell it.) Quick and painless death. (Or quick and painful for a 1/1000 of a millisecond.)

BlueOctober,

Man Survives Fall from Golden Gate Bridge.

You`re right though; the chances of you surviving would be almost nil. I was once told that, of the few people who actually survived, all but one regretted their decision the instant they jumped. Scary way to go.

It`s almost a given you will die on impact. The shock to your body is so immense and it is like hitting a brick wall at 60 kmh.

32 feet per second squared.
(provided the fall was high enough for the person to achieve maximum velocity.)
yeah, the impact would kill you.
and if it didn`t, (by some sick twist of fate) and you survived the hit, you would be so incapacitated you would not be able to move, let alone breathe. current would take you downstream to wherever, and if you`re not dead by the time you wash up on shore, you are criss angel.

Most people don`t actually die from the fall itself. Or, a bridge where I live they don`t. When they jump in, they go through into the water, and hit the bottom, as it`d be muddy way down there, they get very stuck, and drown. D:

Male 3,301
Perhaps they all jump at the bridge because it`s like a gateway to another world? They want to "escape" from their world into another world.

If anything, it`s an efficient way to end it. No bloody body for the authorities to clean up afterwards...
