Portia is now /completely/ off the market. :(
Fatpill...I don`t even know where to begin with you/..I just hope karma gives you what you deserve for what you said. You`re a very rude person..
I really don`t know what people are so afraid of. As for the whole "if we allow gays to get married, people will want to marry their pets and such" argument: I`ve heard it a thousand times. It`s become one of the dumbest lines I`ve ever heard (although it is a good indicator of whether or not one should even try to educate a person) and yes, it does fall into the slippery slope fallacy. It`s just stupid.
Whatever. There will always be stupid people who are resistant to change. All we can do is attempt to educate them. *shrugs*
Congrats Ellen! : D
Being gay isn`t a complement or an insult... It`s just who someone is. You can`t change it.
lolololol. He was being sarcastic. That`s exactly what you sound like except instead of saying that about straight people, you`re saying it about gay people.
Don`t you see that?
[oh and i`m happy for ellen!]
but as for slippery slope fallacy. all you have to do is open your eyes and you`ll see that there is a definite and steady increase in the amount of things that were once classified as "perverse" that we now tolerate. i`m not saying it`s a definite thing...and people will be effing sheep on the street corner, i`m just saying at the rate we are going it dosn`t seem so far fetched to think that it may happen. if you allow one thing...pretty soon people are going to get the idea that you should allow their vices and accept it as the norm and so on and so on. tolerance is getting out of hand.
yeah, wow, television actually reflecting the world as it is. imagine that. y`know,
I really hate it when straights flaunt their lifestyles in my face. wedding announcements and baby carriages and public displays of affection. it makes me sick. I mean, I don`t care what they do in private, I guess, even though I think it`s disgusting. But I don`t want to have to see it. They should keep it to themselves.
How stupid does that sound? Pretty dumb, huh?
Scott: Ellen Degeneres is a famous comedian here in the states, she did stand up comedy for a while before making her own show. She`s also the voice actor for Dorie in "Finding Nemo".
@ iAMzach: F to the U to the C the K to the Y to the O to the U.Homophobia is homophobia. i`m not makin you $uck my d!ck so STFU.
iamzach it not wise to argue with overmann. its gonna last for ages...
It`s all conditional. We should not be defined from a trait. How would you like it if people started saying "Oh, he was a cool guy until I found out he actually sleeps laying down. I hate people who do that, they`re so lazy."
Everyone`s so swept up in the ceremony and everything, they`re forgetting that it`s also a legal binding agreement.
Because norms are still unfair to those who deviate from those norms, just as America was openly biased towards whites in the years prior to the civil rights movement. Marriage is biased towards heterosexuals. So is the media in its depiction.
"and by media i`m not refering to comercials on tv for crappy products"
No, but I was, and I first brought the media up.
LKJSlain, they didn`t pass a law no one voted for, they overturned a law they deemed unconstitutional (according to CA`s constitution). Big difference.
and btw iAMzach you are a closet gay in denial
Give me a break. You want to say media outlets are not biased towards heterosexuality when we as a nation see far more expressions of affection between opposite-gender couples. Commercials especially. You`re probably just not aware of how much attention heterosexuals get in the media because, like I said, it`s the norm and your attention isn`t being drawn to it as much. How much heterosexual hand-holding do you see compared to homosexual, for instance?
"its none of my buisness? wtf...they try to make it everyones buisness...`look at me i`m gay, respect me i`m gay...`"
They`re not trying to make it your business beyond claiming you should respect their rights. I doubt any homosexual seriously wants you to know the specifics of their bedroom antics.
BTW Aeladil, very well said my friend, might does not make right indeed, like, oh i don`t know, slavery?
i don`t know the last time you watched tv or picked up a paper buy the media is far from biased towards heterosexuals...it seems its almost the opposite alot of the time.
You don`t have to like it, it`s none of your business anyway. And you don`t like how they broadcast it? Please. Media in general are biased towards heterosexual relationships and they feel a need to broadcast them just as much. Films, PDA, et.c We don`t as a society consciously see it as broadcasting because it`s the norm.
And - they did the same thing in Canada; ruled without a vote but you know what? Who cares. Just because the people who would vote against something like this are bigoted ignorants, doesn`t make their opinion right. Freedom for everyone doesn`t mean freedom for everyone that thinks and acts and believes like you.
I wish I was joking.
