You guessed it, he and his date are also attention whores.

i don`t think it had to be made into such a big deal..that boy could have easily attended prom without the dress.
the dress was merely a "look at me, look at me" device,a desperate cry for attention.
and that girl...hardly unique. she`s exactly like all the other "unique" girls out there...just a little easier on the eyeliner, perhaps.

As long as it`s actually appropriate attire, they should let him. Who cares about his motive? thats irrelevent to the fact that it`s his right, to where what he pleases. ThursdayLark raises the point that it`s voluntary, but prom is very special to alot of people, and they want that night to be exactly right. He`s not daring enough to wear it day to day, because the pressure from other people is a hell of a lot greater than his vague identity issues. Give him this night to be who he wants to.

I think that if the guy wants to wear a dress he should be able to but the fact that he made, well actually she, made such a big deal of it made them look like attention whores. He should have just done it without telling anyone. Oh and btw her jeans are hideous.

I wonder...

Do you all think that the civil rights movement is/was a bunch of attention whores? When women wanted the right to vote, were they a bunch of attention whores?

One small step. That`s all this is. One small step.

Ridiculous.

Yeah, they`re attention whores. Of course they are, they`re teenagers.

But a guy wearing a dress is no big deal. I`ve seen plenty of guys in dresses before.

XRathsallagh: That`s disgusting. Homosexuality has no place in public school systems. They shouldn`t teach tolerance, have those gay silence days or let people do poo like this. If my kids were forced to be around that I would be furious.

I suppose forcing your kids to adhere to your ideas of prejudice are better? Homosexuality has no place in schools? What about the homosexual kids that actualy are there? Are you saying that gay kids don`t beleong in a public school? Don`t teach Tolerance? Teach what then? Religiously influenced bigotry? Tolerance is about acceptance and living in Harmony. You seem content to divide, alienate, vilify, and spew vile hatred for a group of people you don`t understand.

Life works in funny ways though...somehow, I see you having a gay child in the future. Then what do you do? Deny you`re own flesh and blood?

I fail to see how this is newsworthy. Ohnoes, they are doing something unusal, just like all the other kids who strive to be differant, and if you claim you`re unique, you arent.

Let the guy wear what he wants as long as it`s formal and not vulgar. The thing that really bothers me is that this seems to have been done PURELY for attention. Obviously no one really had a problem with him being gay and the person who objected was overturned. End of story. This had nothing to do with any of that. It was all about trying to be controversial for the sake of being controversial.

lol yeah bekll...thats kinda the point of opposite day. it was the PROM. not the opposite day dance. and about your comment "man i wish all the straights would die out like the dinosaurs" um you can`t/or shouldn`t really destroy something thats normal, thats bad. Imagine a world with no straight guys...i mean what the hell! thats a waste of men. and you wouldn`t be alive if it wasnt for you straight father and mother. i guess you cant get a guy or you a lesbian for saying that.

ok if he was like dressing as a woman all the time due to being a transexual, id see the point of fighting. but the fact that he was dressing in a dress for the hell of it... it just makes it pathetic and attention seeking. and kinda ofensive to actual transexuals who spend their time fighting to be able to wear a skirt at school and stuff... plus he doesnt even go to that school, its not his prom!

Perhaps you didn`t hear them state, very clearly, that a dress is proper attire for prom. Some gay people feel more comfortable in clothing of the opposite sex, and who`s to say "no, you can`t". I had a girl wear a tux to my prom (which she was totally sexy in), and it wasn`t for "shock value", it was because it was more comfortable for her and her date, another woman.

I hope she looks back and feels absolutely ridiculous for causing such a scene over something so stupid. fine, bring a gay guy to prom, but he doesnt have to dress in drag. what a whiny little attention whore. ...sitting there playing bad guitar with her bad paramore music and her nice, trendy torn jeans.
shes just so unique.
puke.

"Bekll, that`s the point. They wear dresses on opposite day, not the prom."
If there was a specific dress code for this school, then sure. But in the video it said a dress was not violating the rules - and it doesn`t specify that only girls can wear dresses, so the girl was, thus, allowed to bring a boy in a dress to the prom.

ugh... why?!! They think theyre doing such a service for civil rights or something but really theyre just annoying everyone and making people change rules that have no reason to be changed. Nobody was being treated unfairly except for the principal who has every right to enforce a dress code in his school. If he didnt allow gay couples to go to the prom together, that would be one thing, but this is just ridiculous. Also, why does the news have to play into it so much? Theyre just stroking that attention whore`s ego with all that "playing to a different rhythm" bullpoo. Wearing purposefully shredded jeans does like not make you rebellious. It makes you a tool.

Bekll, that`s the point. They wear dresses on opposite day, not the prom.

If a gay professional football player wanted to wear a skirt during games and the team didn`t allow it, would they also be discriminating or something?

No.

It`s just a dress code, people. Lets also remember prom`s voluntary.

the whole point of a prom is to have a little more upscale party with your classmates... the last party u get as a class.

thats why there are dress codes...its supposed to be an upscale party, something completely different from what high school kids normally get.

thats why ppl spend alot on clothes and hair and w/e...but it kinda loses its meaning if people just act stupid and wear slutty clothes or something overly-dramatic, then its nothing special

don`t go 2 prom if u think its just for spoiled or elitist ppl...but don`t turn it into a shock contest either

that freak shouldn`t wear a dress 2 prom just 4 shock value, its not an issue of being gay at all

and that biotch just wanted the attention being ugly never got her

Hooray for them.

And I don`t see how them bringing attention to the school`s initial discrimination is "attention whoring"... If no one knows about it, no one else can be inspired to bring about change.

gamergrl, good point. They should allow dudes to go to prom in sweatpants and a wifebeater. Females should be able to go in bikinis.

There`s a dress code for a reason, to establish boundaries.

They just want attention. "Oh we`re going to fight the system! YEAH!!"

I passed over this link several times before actually clicking it.

She does have a point in that "scream loud enough you`ll get what you want" sort of mindset. (Makes you wonder why people don`t march on D.C. anymore since the 70`s though...)

She went through the rulebook and found a way in. Good for her.

Now him wearing drag, eh, that`s his choice. Go ahead. I just wouldn`t do it is all.

wow people are so closed-minded...why the hell does it matter what somebody wears to prom unless they go naked, male or female...what if it was a lesbian wanting to go in a suit? There wouldn`t be a problem...*rolls eyes* grow up and realize that there are different ways to live your life in this world and it doesn`t need to fall to a strict code.

I also lol`ed at the end where the reporter was like "as for him, he`s really excited to wear that purple dress"...aahh, it`s just cute. lol

i love how people have such a bad opinion of these two for getting on the news for something so trivial, but then everyone is gay-bashing the kid; clearly, you feel strongly about it and that, chickens, makes it news.

also, if the dude wants to wear a dress, the hell with what you think about it. i don`t think anyone should wear uggs but guess what? thousands of people do.

As for a gay guy going to prom in drag, what says that with his longer hair, some guy will see him from behind and hit on him, only momments later realizing its a guy

He did look really girly. He probably dresses in drag for a lot of occasions...to go along with that outdated Farrah Fawcett hairdo. I say good for him. And if the gay guy was an attention whore...why wouldn`t he have made sure to be interviewed? Some, not most, gay guys are really effeminate and like to blur gender lines. Maybe he`s a Drag Queen in training. As long as he doesn`t look like a total slob, who cares what he wears to the prom. I`d rather have a boy in a dress than some redneck in torn jeans and scrappy blazer.

Im sorry, but if those attention whores think they were helping ANYONE, they were wrong. The battle to fight would have been the guy being able to bring who he really wanted to bring. That`s a right we need before the right to go out and play dress-up with your faghag. Stuff like this is the reason there are homophobes in the world

Yeah. It says they weren`t but I don`t understand why. Normally they have dress codes for boys and girls. Like normally it would say "Boys are to wear blah blah blah" there isn`t normally just one general dress-code like "no open toed shoes" because that stuff can get misconstrued into no open-toed high heels when they just mean no sandals for men.

I mean it`s whatever. If they let him, they let him. I just don`t think if I was the superintendent, I would have allowed it.

Uh, ok. I don`t think they should have allowed it and I`m all for gay right and blah blah blah but prom does have a dress-code. Deal with it. If he was living his life as a girl or something or dressed as a girl on the regular I wouldn`t have a problem with it but prom is not a time to just dress up for the hell of it.

I didn`t even go to prom and I have enough respect for the institution to know that.

Oh, and am I the only one to think the guy kid was kinda hot? =/
