If I had my feet cutoff I would take advantage of the opportunity and sell myself to MIT and see if those wizards and turn me into a super awesome cyborg. If they wanted they could take my arms and change them out as well...

I don`t think parks should HAVE to make their rides safer, they should just have to pay this young girl`s medical bills, physical therapy bills, tutoring for the loss of school, whatever lawsuit charges there are, and any other additional payments caused by her injury. Maybe then the parks will be persuaded to make the rides safer without being forced to.

She`s a little girl. Of course she`s going to be upset over losing her feet.

Why did typing that just make me laugh? Dammit, I was serious. :(

It`s sad for sure, i remember hearing about this back right when it happened almost a year ago. i felt terrible for that girl, and i still do, but when i saw this video i kinda changed my mind.

For sure it`s a terrible thing for ANYONE, i cant even imagine. But that chick looks like someone who wouldnt give two hoots about anyone but herself till something like this happens to them. I dont want to judge a book by it`s cover, but come on people! She TOTALLY does, u guys know the type! She`s very pretty, and she`ll meet some guy who doesnt care in the least about her missing feet. But i would bet money that she was a total b**** before this happened to her.

--and they guy said "put the fear of god in them". i never got that, cause why would you fear god?--
Why`d he bring it up in the first place?

I agree with the people who sympathize with her. The rest of you calling her a brat - yeah, say that to her face! See how you all would like it getting your feet chopped off on an amusement ride at the age of 13. You`re all pathetic.

Only thing I didn`t like about her was her being a tad over-dramatic and giving details on her pain. It`s ALMOST like she was playing the pity card. But attention-wh**** is not the right way to put it. She *is* trying to help after all. Give her a break.

I think its great she wants to help make parks safer but her pain cant be as bad as some of the guys coming back from Iraq who have lost limbs.

I understand shes pissed, but my thing I have been on and off crutches and all that since 2nd grade. I still went to the mall with my friends and used my crutch. Your friends learn to adapt and walk slower and you build up endurance and upper body strength. She could have lost alot more than a foot/feet. She could have lost from the knee down.

Good God, the ignorance!

crux: Six Flags is at fault, and can be sued, but they are settleing out of court.

To all you brats calling her a brat: I`d shut the hell up until something tragic happens to you. She lost an appendage, you`d be pissed too.

Lastly, increased FEDERAL legislation is not going to help. When they finally get around to compiling the statistics, it will be around 90% riders at fault. If you jump from a moving vehicle (and living in Orlando, I know it happens all the time) don`t expect to come out of it. The other 10% is tragic, but rare and I believe the states do a good job regulating the industry.

Besides, if the amusement park industry was dangerous, you wouldn`t come spend your money.

You cant sue amusement parks, if anything goes wrong it was your decision not theirs. I think they are smarter then that.

I cant believe some of you people!? Do you realise how horrifying it would be to have am amusement ride go wrong? And then to get seriously injured? I freak the hell out when im waiting in line to even get on one! (though I do love rides). Im pretty damn sure if your feet got chopped off you`d be complaining like a little schoolboybitch too.

I`ve been to this park. I had a season pass there because I used to live in that town. She wasn`t doing anything wrong. She had simply gotten onto the ride like an other regular person. My family knows the girl that sat next to her. As the ride was going up, one of the cables snapped-- went right through her feet. The best part? The ride had to come back down with her feet chopped off. Lovely picture isn`t it? I couldn`t blame her for being traumatized. I would be too.

And the weirdest thing, I remember looking at the ride once while passing it and saying "I wonder, is it safe for the cables to be exposed like that?" My husband brushed it off saying "I Dunno." and I said "Well I guess it couldn`t do to much damage if it snapped."

yeah. right.

i`m not really sure how i feel about this

on the one hand, she is acting like losing her feet is the worst thing that could ever happen to a person. accidents happen, and considering that it could`ve been a lot worse, and there are plenty of people in the world that live in worse circumstances, she should count herself lucky.

but on the other hand, the six flags people could`ve prevented the accident by properly checking the equipment before the day. yes, i know they check the rides every morning, but things can get overlooked by someone that isn`t paying attention.

Wait what... she can`t go to the shopping mall anymore because her feet were cut off?

Why can`t she go in a wheelchair? What`s interupting her from living a normal life?

From what I understand it`s only been 11 months so the pain might be why she can`t go but come on... get over it.

My girlfriend had her left leg amputated 3 months ago and we went to see Iron Man in theater like we used to before. No big deal.

Why is this site full of a$$hats calling her names or disagreeing with what she`s saying? The poor kid was 13 and had her feet removed by a faulty ride ffs. You know, as well as I, when you get on a ride you expect to get off it in one piece.
I`m not disputing that crap happens but if this could have been avoided, it should have been.

Cut her some slack you mooseheads!

I was with you until you said free health care, education, and crime prevention (unless that includes removal of cops which would be crime prevention).

I`m from Canada, so not sure how public safety laws differ there from here. Usually if there is a danger of serious harm, it`s part of the contract that purchase of a ticket means you are entering into a legal agreement, part of which stipulates that you acknowledge bodily harm (and potentially death) are remote possibilities.

I`m not saying, "she bought a ticket, so she should shut up," just pointing out that an amusement park is a potentially VERY dangerous place and contracts like this are in place to protect the operator or else there`d be a lawsuit over anything from a stubbed toe to a broken nail.

The tragedy was due to one of several possible explanations:
1) faulty design
2) faulty construction
3) faulty maintenance
4) faulty operation
5) faulty patron

Government involvement would also be less effective the further down the list you go or would require substantial manpower and tax dollars.

So in short:
Tragic, but will government involvement

Dude, they had a taller version of that, the Dungeon Drop, over at Six Flags Astroworld here in Houston until the place closed down.

And no one ever got their feet severed. We`d had like, 2 or 3 accidents from rollercoasters there, and almost all of them were from the Texas Cyclone, that wooden rollercoaster. None of our metal ones ever screwed up. XD

So, it`s bad luck. She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It could be a lot worse. I realize this kind of **** happens to perfectly normal people and most of them just learn to cope. But that`s just a personal choice to be silent, if someone wants to tell these amusement parks to get their crap together and rethink their safety guidelines, then more power to the person. She`ll eventually move on, I agree with that, but it doesn`t hurt to just let people know her experience. Same with everyone else if they want.

Wow I thought she was like 18 or something by the way she carries herself. She`s quite beautiful as well.

But honestly I dont think she`s an attention whore. This a terrible thing to happen to someone. Especially to a young person whos life is just starting. Amusement park rides are supposed to be fun and safe. Your acting like she willingly jumped off a cliff or something.

there are people who live their life in pain every day, who can`t walk without help, go to the mall on a regular basis, do everything their friends do, etc, and you don`t hear them complaining about how hard their lives are. she should consider herself lucky that she can go through so much recovery...

For those who are interested...

The Superman Tower of Power ride was one of those magnetically slowed "great drop" rides.

This one, during normal operation, dropped a total of 177 ft.

During faulty operation, apparently, it dropped 179 ft.

i dunno why a bunch of people are crying attention whore. It`s not like she brought it on herself... She may be speaking out about it, but she has every right to be pissed, and why not take advantage of the media interest. It allows her to vent, along with raising issues over safety in theme parks. I see where you`re coming from, saying that she has a lot going for her and it could be worse, but no matter how fortunate a life you had before something like that, an accident of that nature is gonna screw stuff up royally.
