It is true that soccer is the #1 sport in the world. It`s also true that it`s #1 because it is the cheapest sport. The equipment to play American Football is very expensive, so 2nd/3rd world countries could never field a large number of teams. Children grow up in most places across the world with very few sports to play, outside of soccer.
Just the equipment for 11 players on a US children`s football team can cost 3 to 5 thousand dollars (not including field costs, etc).
An organized children`s soccer team can pull the same thing off for much, much less money.
Rugby and Soccer are much easier to throw together for a game.
You have obviously never seen rugby before, and probly dont even play american football yourself.
beckam should`ve never left utd.

Although I have to admit they did well in the 2002 World Cup.
I dunno, im sure there are AFL players that would dread the sight of Sebastian Chabal bearing down on them as a part of the defence and players like Bryan Habana or Joe Rokocoko would be fairly unstoppable as running backs... If they knew the rules.
Phil Neville FTW
Saying that is like saying the only difference is the protection. It`s just not true.
Obviously, rugby players would easily beat am. football players at rugby, and vice versa.
Hey, you ever sat down and watched any/more than a couple MLS games? They are actually quite exciting. No less so than the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and international games I watch. Yes, the players are more skilled in top European leagues, but the game is still quite entertaining. Based on the game alone and not its circumstances I would rather re-watch yesterday`s Chicago-NY MLS game than last week`s Champions League Final.
Soccer is not the king of sports. The only reason it is the most popular sport is because you dont need any equipment to play. Goal post? Those two trees. Ball? Roll up your clothes and kick it.I have soccer as 3A.1. American Football (europeans, give it a chance)2. Basketball3A. Soccer3B. Hockey (Soccer ON ICE)
Hey! Soccer AND Squirrel hunting are both awesome
and sometimes the having the goalie come up for a corner kick works very well.
Might as well have a bunch of duck-billed platypuses playing.
They don`t need thumbs either.
take italy out of the exciting football bit as they can be very boring games at times
Theres a blast from the past if i ever saw one, if you throw in Lee Sharp and Darren Huckerby then we`re really talking 90`s lol
And US people, its kinda like basketball. You have a set number on the pitch/court at one time. Nothing stops them going wherever they like but since they have a different set of skills they naturally occupy one area. Its like Shaq shooting a 3, he can but it`s a very bad idea. Same with sending a keeper up for a corner. Voila
The only real difference in hockey and soccer are some minor ruling (mostly equipment) and the size of the field. Indoor soccer is alot like hockey except that spectators can easily see the ball, same checking and rough play, plus indoor soccer is close to the same size field.
Yes, the goalie can cross the midline. In fact, any player can go wherever they please, including off the pitch...
kikij: I never said I hated football. In fact I think some soccer players are pretty hot. Muddy guys and all...heh...
If there was a goalie, he could have saved
