hockey is so much better than slow... slow soccer. what are the rules in soccer? did they pull the goalie for an extra attacker? can they do that? The only good thing about soccer is the headbuts

It was in the last minute, so David Beckhams opposing team brung the goalie forward because they expect the referee to blow the whistle when L.A Galaxy clear the ball out but as you see here he took advantage of the goalie`s stupid action :-)

Because it gives them another attacker in the dying moments of the match to (hopefully) bring the match to a draw, and either gain a point or bring the game into extra time. It was an all or nothing tactic and since they were leaving with nothing anyway, it was worth the risk.

It was an empty net people. They took the goalie out so they can have 1 more player on the field that can play the ball and potentially score. Same thing with hockey.

yes, like hockey, you can bring the goalie off the pitch for another player OR have the goalie himself come all the way forward. In the final minutes if that happens, there is no one back to protect, other times I have seen it done and a defender left back alone.

The only real difference in hockey and soccer are some minor ruling (mostly equipment) and the size of the field. Indoor soccer is alot like hockey except that spectators can easily see the ball, same checking and rough play, plus indoor soccer is close to the same size field.

The goalie was in the opponents` box for the corner. It was a good strategy because his team was down one and they were in injury time, so they had nothing to lose and everything to gain from having an extra attacker in the box - Beckham`s goal was pretty but totally irrelevant to the game`s outcome.

As for people asking if you can pull the keeper like in hockey, they don`t have roro substitutions in football, so while in theory you can sub the keeper for a striker, he wouldn`t be allowed back on again. It was a decent goal but I would hope most players could hit the goal from that distance, it`s not that difficult especially with the time he had

    kikij...Noel Whelan?

Theres a blast from the past if i ever saw one, if you throw in Lee Sharp and Darren Huckerby then we`re really talking 90`s lol

And US people, its kinda like basketball. You have a set number on the pitch/court at one time. Nothing stops them going wherever they like but since they have a different set of skills they naturally occupy one area. Its like Shaq shooting a 3, he can but it`s a very bad idea. Same with sending a keeper up for a corner. Voila

Soccer is not the king of sports. The only reason it is the most popular sport is because you dont need any equipment to play. Goal post? Those two trees. Ball? Roll up your clothes and kick it.

Hey, you ever sat down and watched any/more than a couple MLS games? They are actually quite exciting. No less so than the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and international games I watch. Yes, the players are more skilled in top European leagues, but the game is still quite entertaining. Based on the game alone and not its circumstances I would rather re-watch yesterday`s Chicago-NY MLS game than last week`s Champions League Final.

You can`t actually "pull the goalie" like in hockey...the goalie has to be on the field 100% of the time. He just moved way into the other team`s goal area, and couldn`t sprint the entire length of the field at the same speed as the ball. Durn.

Saying that is like saying the only difference is the protection. It`s just not true.

I dunno, im sure there are AFL players that would dread the sight of Sebastian Chabal bearing down on them as a part of the defence and players like Bryan Habana or Joe Rokocoko would be fairly unstoppable as running backs... If they knew the rules.

I agree with Schwabos, stick Habana on the field as running back, he`s awesome at foot skills so he`d dodge the tackles then speed down that field faster than hot poo off a greased shovel. Americans, I respect your love of your "Football", it is a demanding game that requires a lot of fitness and strength, but I still prefer Rugby and (the real) Football over it.

The goalie...going for the head-i you gett some goalies who can direct the ball like/better than rio or terry-(brilliant defenders who can head in goals from corners)-It`s not unheard of even for the goalies to run with the ball and get the winning cross in-(Peter Schmeichel)

I love soccer, played organized club soccer for 8 years. American football is my favorite sport though, especially college.

It is true that soccer is the #1 sport in the world. It`s also true that it`s #1 because it is the cheapest sport. The equipment to play American Football is very expensive, so 2nd/3rd world countries could never field a large number of teams. Children grow up in most places across the world with very few sports to play, outside of soccer.

Just the equipment for 11 players on a US children`s football team can cost 3 to 5 thousand dollars (not including field costs, etc).

An organized children`s soccer team can pull the same thing off for much, much less money.

Rugby and Soccer are much easier to throw together for a game.
