Would be great for a huge zombie outbreak, but the problem would be getting it =\

Might have to get lucky and take it off a dead army guy and hope he doesn`t re-animate as you take the gun from him

To be honest the only useful feature of this is the HE round thing, which NEEDS the automatic fire to work as that grenade will not be 1 hit kill. It is also useful with the HE grenade on automatic fire as you can easily get a 100% kill rate on multiple targets just by firing 1 or 2 grenades.

This has the SAME range for all the "special" rounds as the Ak47 actually, so while it may be silly to carry into combat because its bulky and can`t pull off a long range shot the fact that the ammo is flexible would make it useful. If you were going into a situation with lots of enemies this would compliment the M16 well by being able to deliver more firepower at the same engagement range, such as being able to take on APCs or 2 people at one, it`s mostly just a heavy firepower weapon.

now im not a huge gun nut but this has got me drooling. but we need to try and pull away from conventional weapons that use non renewable resources as soon as possible. like the navy declassified rail gun posted earlier sure it still uses solid ammunition it uses no gun powder for propulsion. we need to get more people working on ways to make energy type weapons more accessable for todays military. or the world could just abandon projectile weapons and go back to the good old melee weapons <3 *sigh* if only

So... Let`s see. They made an automatic shotgun with a drum mag. I congratulate them. Not exactly "Twenty-First century" material. Gas operated shotguns have been around forever, and loading them with drum mags isn`t anything new. Look at the USAS-12. The only thing new is that it`s fully-automatic instead of semi-automatic, but in all reality that`s something that they could have done years and years ago, if they cared enough. As for the recoil reduction system, big whoop. Shotguns don`t even have any kick anyways. Now making a .50 cal recoilless, that amazed me. This, not so much. The only exciting thing was the new shell they stuck in it and, I`m going to make an obvious point here, can you not fire that from any other shotgun? 0 out of 10 for innovation or being "technologically advanced." Like I said, it`s just a shotgun with a big clip stuck on it, made to be heavier, and now you hold down the trigger instead of repeatadly tapping it.

Automatic fire is not "better" or "worse" than semi-auto, it`s just a different tool with a different purpose. It can be more convenient to just hold down the trigger at a target, allowing you to concentrate solely on target acquisition. With proper training, full-auto can be quite controllable, even in 12 gauge. It`s just a skillset that needs to be practiced.

Very concise and to the point VikingGuy.

I don`t see why they need a drum magazine with thirty million rounds. You want an automatic shotgun? Fine, just use a normal magazine- it`s a hell of a lot easier to handle.

And really, why is automatic fire necessary? Even if there`s a mechanism to minimize recoil, you`re still not going to hit anything beyond point blank with that.

Male 2,160
no,jackhammer is a design that was never developed past protype stages,this isnt a bad weapon shown here,but they need to realize that the drum mags will have the same disadvantage as the soviet PPsH,theyre uncomfortable as hell to carry,slow to reload with and you cant carry very many,and the full auto rate of fire is stupid for a weapon of its class,should rather take a 10 round single stack straight mag and be semi auto.And the grenade rounds might have been made with the weapon in mind,but i´m rather sure a saiga 12 or a franchi spas-15(not 12,go look up if your unfamiliar with it) can fire them also,plus as a auto,this shotgun has a disadvantage all autos have:it can jam.

Ok, the doomsayers can back off, it is not available to civilians and cannot be unless US gun laws are drastically changed.
It wouldn`t make a difference if it was in civilian hands, since we have semi-auto shotguns that can fire just as fast and we don`t hear about any rampant semi-auto shotgunnings across the country, now do we? The AA-12 has a quite low rate of fire than can easily be matched by a competent, individual with a semi auto Saiga 12 gauge shotgun. Add a 12 gauge drum magazine, and you have just as much "firepower" downrange as the super-scary AA-12. So, I ask again, where are the mass shotgun massacres that are supposed to happen since these Super Weapons are in civilian hands? Oh, that`s right. It`s just fun to be alarmist. No common sense or logic needed.

That is just one amazing gun. What`s a pancor jackhammer (another auto-shotgun) got compared to this?

lotsa things to like:
-shotgun
-semi to full auto firing
-decent range
-lots of different ammo types
-durable

Metal Storm is pretty cool too, it`s a unique idea for one thing- the last time packing multiple bullets into one barrel was with muzzle-loaders, and then it was a result of battlefield stress rather than intentional.

Yeah, I was just a little peeved with the insinuation that `Oh my God, this has never been done before, nowhere in the world is there a shotgun in any way suited for military work of any kind`.

Still, I`d need to see more in terms of field tests. I`m not convinced that it would be significantly useful as a primary weapon. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that it will be useful in clearing rooms but not too much else.

I think I want that shotgun.
Oh, and catbarf;
There are several civilian model semi-auto shotguns. The SPAS-12 isn`t special in that regard, as it`s still based on a civilian tool.
This new beast is definitely special, considering it`s the only shotgun in production that`s actually made to kill people.

This gun and the Metalstorm thing I saw two years ago...wow.
Metalstorm only has one moving part;
The bullets leaving the barrel.

@SKR34

I did say that it`s semi-automatic, I`m not implying that the SPAS-12 is an automatic shotgun, but it`s not like every shotgun in the world is a single-shot pump-action weapon more suited to hunting than combat, as the video seemed to insinuate.

@almightybob1

My father worked for the US government and was an avid military historian, so I was taught about weaponry and warfare from a very early age. And my uncle works at a firearm museum in Idaho, so we `borrow for testing` and go out shooting every summer. And I lived in a very dangerous third-world country for several years. So while I do not have actual combat experience, I can safely say that my knowledge is not from videogames.

And I like the Kalashnikov series because of their amazing reliability, unlike the earlier models of M-16.

If I had a nickel for every time he said "accuracy" or some form of the word "dead," I`d have enough to buy the Discovery channel. And everything he says has to be so drating dramatic! It`s an impressive weapon but it`s not going to checkmate every single enemy of the United States until the end of time!

This is referred to as a BFG. You probably know what it stands for. The general purpose of a BFG, which is typically a shotgun, is to spearhead a close-quarters operation.

The problem with even an automatic shotgun is that it is short ranged. In an urban environment, there is plenty of cover to avoid the shot, and an assault rifle has the range and accuracy to quickly incapacitate the shotgunner. Great close up, but when you`re up close a hit is a kill, so you don`t really need automatic fire.

Now, a much better weapon would use a two-stage munition. Launch a shell, which bursts to spray shot, keeping a much tighter spread over long range.
