As I predicted, everything is taken out of context and put through the author`s twisted interpretation before the questions are presented. I`m NOT a hard core bible freak, I don`t even know if I would call myself a Christian. But I have read the Bible and think it holds a lot of good messages if you look at it the right way, and I hate it when people twist it out of context to make it look so bad.

as a christian i was severally offended offended by this it takes everything out of context and convulutes it to fit wat the author wants to say if ur going to say that jesus said that stuff and then show verses u have to show the verses around it to show if wat reference jesus is speaking a few examples when jesus says u have to hate ur family and such hes saying u have to hate the sinfullness of the world and leave it all behind to follow him and the thing about not bringing peace was about how he was going to cleanse the world and attack sin u dumbass all in all FAIL FAIL FAIL MAJOR FAIL

Funny how people pick and choose what parts of that book they believe in and which they dismiss. That without any real guide to support their choices.

This is just as good as every other Bible quote ever made.

One, Jesus was Jewish, and so were the people who wrote the bible.
Two, Jesus also summarises the old testament and his own messages into two simple commandments.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and Love your neighbor as yourself"

    Hardly murder jewish people.

Also, when one reads the Bible, one must know that it was not written by God. A giant, divine hand did not reach down from the heavens rather the Bible is human interpretation of events that transpired. One must understand that the Bible was influenced by beleifs at the time, so instead of meticulously picking over inconsistencies, interpreting the message, to me, is much more important.

I really think that most religion is hypocritical on many levels, but this quiz was just unfair. Blatant twisting of quotes that Jesus didn`t even make himself as well as taken out of context is not clever satire.

Heh. I loved the opening sequence. "He only gave that knowledge to apples." HOWEVER - many of the quotes are NOT Jesus`s, they are just quotes from the New Testament. Jesus had many beautiful and enlightening teachings. It is possible to follow the teachings for their worth and ignore this "do what religious leaders tell you to or you`re going to hell" nonsense.

Of course the quiz was bull. The fact that the maker took passages and gave them her own slant is the whole point of this thing. It`s just to show how easily passages from the Bible can be used by anyone to promote their views. It was not a serious quiz, like pmarren said, and it was not to offend anyone.

I lol-ed. Of course, I`m also easily amused by people poking fun at religion since everyone`s so sensitive about it XD Makes for an amusing discussion afterwards.

I was raised Catholic and after about 5 or 6 years of catholic school, I became an agnostic. Putting all your faith in a book written by a bunch of misogynistic, idiotic, drunken men written at least 100 years after Jesus died just seems rather.... stupid for some reason.

But meh, believe what you want, just don`t push it on other people. Except for the fundamentalists that take the bible literally. They`re too stupid to live.

The creator of this quiz needs to read a bible. In the introduction section he says that it was an apple that was the forbidden fruit. No where in the Bible does it specify what fruit - although the most accepted theory with theologists is that it was a banana and not an apple. Given the time and believed location of Eden.

Enlighten us, what is the real meaning from those words? Interpret them in context so we can understand.

Because it`s really easy to say "You don`t understand! Those are out of context!" And go walk away thinking we are all wrong and you don`t have to question your faith.

Yes, JMoney, claiming they have the only true answers, know everything, condemn, persecute, and sometimes kill people who don`t think the same thing they do is TRYING to be perfect.
Since the church likes to make a big deal about how any Bible verse can be used to solve any problem. It`s very difficult, near impossible to actualy take any verse out of context. What`s funny about this quiz though is that, technically, BOTH answers would be right! The person who wrote the quiz only went with the negative ones to prove a point. The Bible is incredibly self-contradicting. But that`s what happens when you let a bunch of people who lived more than 100 years after Jesus died, who all had different ideas about if he was even divine or not, try to compile the story of his life. For all we know, Jesus (like the god-children saviors/heroes of every other religion) might not even have existed at all. There is NO evidence, other than the Bible, to suggest that he did.

This is really bad, which is a shame, it could have been better. The "quotes" that we are voting on are nothing like the real quotes from the bible. When they reveal the actual passages after you vote, you see how the author of the quiz twisted the words and meaning around. I thought this was going to be interesting, but it`s just bad.

This is why I left Christianity when I was 13. The Bible is full of crazy, insane, "evil" crap. Some of these verses in the quiz were kind of taken out of context, but go to skepticsannotatedbible.com (they have ones for the Qu`ran and Book of Mormon as well) and read some of the things that are in there. 2. Distinguish between good and evil came after they ate the fruit of knowledge.
    3. 6000 years ago? Not necessarily. The age thing was done to show a lineage to Jesus, doesn`t mean its limited to that its a literary device (although it isn`t certain).

I`ll try to enlighten you! It`s not "out of context". A lot of those verses aren`t even used in the Bible and the ones that were weren`t even spoken by Jesus. Some of them had words added, taken away, and switched around. Even if they were the real verses from the Bible, you can`t just interpret one verse, you must read the whole thing and put the pieces together. After all, the Bible was written over many years by many different people, all having different viewpoints.
Bottom line, this quiz was made to insult people, make Christianity look bad (but most things today try to make Chrisitianity look bad, even some Christians themselves), and give people something to laugh at. I`m slightly offended, but I don`t care what other people think. I`m proud to be a Christian, and I pray that other people will become Christians too. But I don`t force my religion on people, I just pray that they will try to understand by going to church, not looking up some Christian-bashing website.

This quiz is obviously not meant to be taken seriously. As for all the "it wasn`t an apple!" people, again, it`s a joke just trying to show a different side to things. And most people have heard that people often refer to the fruit as being an apple, so the maker of the quiz went with what was popular. It was a joke, lighten up.

okay, people are asking how it was used in context and i`ll show you the first ones since i have an aP test in a week that I should study for...should.

    1. Hate your bretheren and everyone else.... This was in Luke 14 which is all about being a disciple of Jesus. When he says hate your family he is saying that you must completely be dedicated to him. Eat breathe and sleep Jesus-ness. That means no attachments to your family once so ever because you will not really have time to be with them. Its like saying you must hate yourself if you want to join the military due to how tough it is while actually you can still join and love yourself, but it will be really hard

    3. He means that not all will be saved. As mentioned earlier in the Bible if you follow him and accept him than you will be saved but that might not be the case for others including those in your very own family. It basically says you have to earn your way into heaven.

    4. The parables meant to confuse people and send even more to hell.

Since a parable is figurative speech that demands reflection for understanding, only those who are prepared to explore its meaning can come to know it.

So I can easily say all those were taken out of context.

    BigWaFuu:
No those are not real messages, it`s messages taken (singularly without reference or contextual understanding) then `translated` how people would like to translate them. For example you could take the "right to bear arms" and say "Right to shoot a biatch in the ass" or as far as context goes I could walk up and say "1879" without giving the significance of the number or the related facts.

    luckaxolotl:

lol now that was pretty funny

koalameatpie: oh you mean besides the fact of the translation problem? read above.

I love all of the "out of context" comments. While some of those quotes were, the religious are still turning a blind eye to the fact that in the bible, God kills and kills and kills. Funny how the first thing the satan (in the form of a serpent) does is to help humans gain knowledge. Sure, satan gave Job a hard time, but he never punished anyone for learning. Not only punish, but drowned 99.999999999% of all of Adam and Eve`s progeny.

And as far as the old testament

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (Matthew 5:17-19)

REBELComx: I agree for the most part, save for scientifically backed religious evidence. You can look at it that way. BUT because we`re debating on the wording from a religious book then we`re talking about what it says literally (as in on the pages, not your perception).

But I won`t contradict you because I see where you`re headed with that

Foob: What if there is no us, and there is only you. Truth is what you make it. So don`t tell me your opinion and pretend it`s absolute.

Lt.Furpie: Actually all the "quotes" were mis-represented and totally out of context from the purely secular standpoint that they were taken from a surrounding of relevant facts.

God did what to Adam and Eve what He promised. And yes there was other death in the Bible related to God, etc etc. But to actually argue any point you have to accept the Bible to be true events first.

You`re right the quotes aren`t full of crap, you are.

baelzar: No one argues if Jesus existed, He did. It`s a fact. Everyone only wonders if He was who He said He was. Or if He was an actor/magician/etc. If you`re going to argue something at least make a pertinent point.

I understand it`s all choice blah blah blah and I don`t argue with the ability to chose. But I have two questions.

    1) Why don`t you believe in various `gods`?

    2) what do you believe in?

    1) Why don`t you believe in various `gods`?
Occam`s Razor. So many gods over the years, so much malevolence under the guise of benevolence. The bible shows god as having severe psychological disorders. Think about it. (megolomaniac, sadist, etc...)

    2) what do you believe in?
Libertarianism. Do what you want so long as what you want does not prevent another from doing the same. (This takes a strong sense of empathy to work. If everyone takes this to heart, then we will have come the closest to a true utopian society to date!!!)

What ever happened to be like Jesus and turn the other cheek?

No proof Jesus existed: my thoughts on it: In one of my history lessons, It referenced Jesus as like Confucius, a great philosopher. He was thought by many to be the messiah. and I have to know, besides written accounts, is there any proof that Confucius, George Washington, and all those other historic figures existed? Do we have their bodies? as really, that`s the only way to KNOW that they were real.

p.s. The Bible is actually full of horror. But it`s also full of hope. While it would take a while, and I haven`t read all or even half of it yet myself, I think anyone who is going to comment on it, should read the parts mentioned. Leviticus is full of laws, that are still technically sins. Is rather horrifying that God had to clarify all of these things.

Thank you LtFurpie. It doesn`t take a deity to tell you if something you do is going to harm another person and is thus wrong. Simple human empathy can teach you that. THAT is what ethics truly are. If "godless" chimpanzees in the wild can be use empathy, than we can without religious bias.
And liquid, SATAN didn`t talk anyone into doing anything. The bible refers to the figure in Eden as "The Serpent." The serpent, in every other culture, has always been revered as a teacher of wisdom, so it is logical that whoever wrote Genesis would use that idea as well as the dozens of other culture`s myths combined to write it.
The word Satan is a poor translation of the Hebrew word Al-Satan (ahl sahtahn), which means Adversary or Prosecutor and was never applied to any one specific angel. And it was never referred to as an adversary of God. Al Satan was a title given to any angel who attempted to show God man`s folly. God=Judge, Satan=Prosecuting attorney.

"You`re right the quotes aren`t full of crap, you are."

Wonderful, an ad hominem attack. When you don`t have any way to refute the opposition... Attack them!

"Why don`t you believe in various `gods`?"

Why should I? It is not rational to leap to assumptions and decide that something exists without any evidence or logic.

"No one argues if Jesus existed, He did. It`s a fact."

How do you know? Please cite sources.

"is there any proof that Confucius, George Washington, and all those other historic figures existed?"

This is an amateur argument. There are many, MANY books in various countries dealing with these people, as well as first-hand accounts from people who knew them. All we have for Jesus is the Bible.

"You wont get a vicar or bishop in the land spouting that bullsh*t."

It reminds me of that old movie Porky`s II (Yeah, not the most christian movie ever LOL, hell not even the best Porky`s) to the part where the principal and the reverand are arguing (the rev was the bad guy btw) and the rev said that even Satan can quote scripture for his own perpose. I actually thought the quiz made an interesting point. Despite some of the wholesome teachings of the bible, it is also filled with hypocrisy, violence and injustices. People say the bible is the infallible word of god, but its content begs to question whether it can be taken seriously. Most Christians I have encountered don`t seem to be aware of the contradictions within the bible. It makes me wonder how someone can so voraciously cling to a belief system when they haven`t even read the scriptures for it.

    1) It bugs me when people start saying stuff like "It`s just a joke why are you getting so offended?" If I offended someone, even unintentionally, I would apologise. Plus, just saying it`s a joke won`t suddenly make me think "Oh well, that`s ok. Come insult my entire belief system anytime."
    2) In reference to the debate about whether Jesus existed. Apparently there is more evidence that Jesus existed than there is evidence that Julius Caesar existed.
    3) I don`t get why atheists are so keen to convert believers to atheism. Personally I think it`s great if people become Christians but that`s because I believe that if they do they`ll go to heaven which sounds like a pretty amazing place. But what do atheists get out of it? All it means is people will attend church and read the bible less. Can anyone actually explain this to me?
