A helpful Super Mario video explains to us the ""many-worlds interpretation"" theory of quantum mechanics.

"Sounds like a good book...but he should`ve slept with the girl version of himself.

That would`ve made the book a million times more interesting.

...what if he impregnated himself?"

If I had found that image of 2 identical guys looking at each other saying "Yay! A clone! Now none of us will have to be a virgin!", this would have been a really epic time to post it.

Is this the same as the infinite universe theory? The theory that a parallel universe is created for every possible action that everyone/thing makes, creating an infinite amount of universes or is this slightly different? Don`t they both basically amount to the same anyway?

"And I still do. I personally disdain quantum physics. I agree with points, but I believe it is extremely under developed and too many people believe in its teachings."
I agree. I`m not a fan of it because of the way it was developed -- based on mathematics THEN philosophy was figured out, not before or during.

good way to explain it.

I wonder what kind of hack he was using...I can`t even think of how it would even work and there it is...splitting into so many Marios and the game didn`t identify with a "main" Mario.

I did not understand a word of that. I never was very good at that sort of thing. I do like to play Mario Bros. though. :p

If they had taught math or science in school using Mario and such, I bet I would have received way better grades than I did in those two subjects. I simply just do NOT UNDERSTAND a good majority of those.

I wont say it made me "understand" , but it gave me a better insight than if someone had sat me down at a desk at a boring school with a teacher in a monotone voice trying teach me whatever they could(n`t) about this.

I wish people would stop trying to diss quantum mechanics and act like experts. You`ll never grasp it, because I`d say everyone here, including myself are totally unable to understand it in its entirety.

Dakkar, you are an idiot. Go read about quantum mechanics before you act like you know what you are talking about.

If you think it only talks about these interesting quantum events, then you are super wrong. Without quantum mechanics it would have been impossible to prove hawking radiation which explains the evaporation of blackholes.

QM is proven.

Ah, I watched this on Metacafe one time. It was called 104 Mario Attempts at an "Impossible" Level (I think). Well, at least I learned something from this.

see, i hate quantum mechanics because it`s not useful. I mean, you will never need to know where an electron is, nor will you need to know its momentum.

it`s a drating electron.

it barely exists anyway.

and don`t even start with that Horton hears a Who crap.

wow yeah that made 100% and im a retard!

thats so awesome.
theres a film out where this guy can see 2 minutes into the future and he goes around exploring buildings just like this to see danger, then goes the right way. its awesome

Anyone else vaquely reminded of Cursor 10 when they watched this video?

And I thought that that was an awesome way to explain the theory. A friend told me that the concept was interesting, so I looked it up, but I didn`t get it at all. This was much easier to understand (even if simplified).

The "Many Worlds" theory doesn`t fly in my book. The thinking is, a particle exists in many different forms until it is observed and then it takes on the observed form. At best, this would mean that the needle of the compass (for example) is pointing in all directions at the same time until it is observed, then it points North and the other needles cease to exist.

If you are sitting in your computer chair, about to get up and go into the kitchen and suddenly change your mind, for just that one trillionth of a second, you do exist as the person going to the kitchen but as soon as you choose not to go, that person stops existing because you stayed and were able to observe yourself at the computer.

Has anyone posted the "cat in a box theory" here? It`s called Schrödinger`s cat. A paradox involving a cat that is both dead and alive. If you haven`t heard of it, Google it. It`s a great place to start with all of this.

you know something who freaking cares none of this nor anyhting really matters in the long run. too many people spend too much time saying too many things that they think is smart or actualy is for that matter. i say screw the lot of it and go flog the goffer for awhile at least then you are haveing a good time and not getting on anyones nerves but yourself. there is ajoke somewhere in there lets see who finds it

Example, Bingo - keep turning thr wheel long enough (billions of years) and eventually all the balls will end up going in the same direction with the same amount of force as when you started.

OK, more and mroe this hypothesis is being rejected in favour to the Different Universe / Different Atomic Composition where the very nature of matter is compleatly different - as a very gross example - matter making up the universe in another universe is Desner or bigger - which changes everything on a very wide scale.

Think of the spectrum of light, we, our universe, is just a point on this spectrum, anywhere else and the numbers shift, change.

"Many Worlds" Is Very romantic.
the sum of our experiences makes up who we are on a day to day basis - "uncalculable" as thew numbers and vartions are - mindblowing, for a lack of betetr words, but there is no randomness, every system is based on a set of rules which is based on a given passed set, threw which we know how it can behave.

Example, Bingo - keep turning thr wheel long enough (billions of years) and eventually all the balls will end up going in the same direction with the same amount of force as when yo

It`s like that video where they observe particles that are going through a hole and they suddenly go from spreading out to meeting in a single point.

If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don`t understand quantum mechanics. The real math behind it is so queer that even those who work on advancing it are stuggling with it.
I studied physics but would never claim to understand quantum mechanics or claim to be able to explain it in a way everyone understands completely. Because noone on this planet can do that so far. That is why we still have things like the large hadron collider and an army of math geeks working on the equations.
To think anyone can explain even a part of it with a little video about super mario is rather funny.

I read a book once where this boy found a way to travel between dimensions and found a girl who was him (and also managed to go to a few other dimensions). Eventually they end up switching places somehow. In one of the dimensions the persons family members were dead except like his/her aunt and in the other they were still together and stuff. I want to read the book again, if only I could remember the title.

I thought about this in high school before I officially learned in my freshman year of college that it was hypothesized. I didn`t give it much credence though and wrote it off as a crazy idea.

And I still do. I personally disdain quantum physics. I agree with points, but I believe it is extremely under developed and too many people believe in its teachings.

And there is very little evidence to suggest that macro particles will behave like sub-atomic particles. Our very cells go through random events that would have to then be superimposed into a new universe that not only changes the cell, but it changes other bodily functions and even the human as a whole.

This is like string theory. Pretty much all nonsense and is about as valuable in the scientific community as Mexican currency in global economics.

This was a fantastic way to simplify this theory.

And a nice way to exemplify using drugs and playing Mario.
