Well, I`m never going to Korea!

All things considered though, it`s no more horrible than eating any other form of meat. There`s allways someone who thinks your wrong for eating one type of animal or another!

gorgack2000 "Still, It`s not much different from eating cows or pigs I suppose."

Yeah it is. Unlike cows and pigs, dogs have helped us hunt, protected us, and been our companions almost from the time we walked out of the jungle.
There`s a reason they`re call man`s best friend, they earned it.
What have cows or pigs done for us besides being tasty?

Now if they want to eat dog, that`s their prerogative, I just think it`s disrespectful considering all they`ve done for us.

A cow isn`t going to patiently wait till you come home. Or sit there with eyes thinking your going to feed or love it. Or wag it`s tail with such enthusiasm that your going to give it attention....
Then decide to bash it in the skull to eat it!!!!
This isn`t something new over there, or Taiwan, or many other places of that heritage...They`ve been eating Dogs and Cats, Guinea Pigs, for years..They even make Coats out of Cat fur....
I suppose if your brought up to not ever look at a Dog or Cat as domesticated, as a pet,as a Rescuer of people, which they both have, it`s no big deal to bash their skull in... We that haven`t can`t understand how they can.. But I guess over there, food is food...But it sure as hell ain`t a friggen Cow!!

Here in China you can get dog on the menu, but it will cost you a lot of money. Here they don`t just take any old street dog and fry them up , they breed dogs just for the sole reason of eating them. Much like cattle of any other livestock. I have yet to try any dog here, and highly doubt that I will any time. The thing I can odd is that to eat dog here is almost a norm , well not norm but you know, but it is almost unheard of you eat cat . In fact people avoid eating cat as much as possible. I`m not Chinese, so my understanding of the culture is a bit limited

what a bunch of hypocrites some of you are. basically its not ok to eat dogs because you`ve had one in the past and petted it and took it for walks. But a cow that minds its own business is not worth bothering about, because you never had one of those.
So really, out of sight is out of mind for you, and you`re not taking responsibility for your own actions. I`m fine with eating meat, and I don`t make a distinction between one animal or another. if you`re killing it, you`re killing it.
And if you think that its any less bad for cattle or pigs, or they don`t mind because they`re a bit thick, have a watch of this :
    meet your meat

yes true but also most animal abuse cases are from china and footage. So it kinda makes me think the vast majority of Chinese people don`t give a poo.

I think it is not all China , but a lot of other south east Asian countries , a lot of the time people label videos with Asian people "Chinese" or "China". Don`t get me wrong I`m not denying a large amount of animal abuse happens here. Meet your meat is a sad but eye opening video. The thing is a lot of people who watch that video will not change their minds about eating meat. Yes many will feel guilt , but in the end still go to KFC aha . Still it is better to show the truth , and in turn change a few minds, than stand back and not say anything. Though I don`t agree with PETA, because like any group they have a lot negative things about them .

i really don`t see the problem, as other people have said, its the same as cows and pig, and if you want to bring in the argument that dogs help in someway `helpful` or they are `pets`:
1)we don`t hunt anymore hunting is apparently bad
2)some people eat rabbits and some people keep pigs etc as pets

as long as the animal isn`t tortured for flavour a la china or an endangered species, whoare we to complain? the "don`t eat smart animals" excuse doesn`t work, as pigs are very, very intelligent, emotional animals, probably a lot smarter than anything we keep for pets. We eat millions of pigs.

The only actual reason people frown on eating dogs is because they are kept as pets. that`s it. People in north america frown on eating horses, but you`d be surprised on how many restuarants in europe have it on the menu.

If you wan`t to complain about something, complain about how china tortures animals horrifically (boils them alive, rips their skin off then leaves them to bleed to death, ect.) just because "it might make the meat taste slightly better".

Let me start by saying, under normal circumstances, I would never purposely, and knowingly eat a dog. Putting survival situations where it might be unavoidable aside, when it comes to the harsh reality of an omnivourous diet, you have to be comfortable with the knowledge that when you eat meat a once living breathing, thinking creature had to die. The one saving grace (albeit a minor one) is in how we treat, and dispatch the animal, so we can limit and prevent suffering, as well as produce healthy and viable livestock. Unfortunately most countries who still use dogs as livestock are not financially able, educated, or willing to do take those factors into consideration and practice. Those three reasons are why dogs should not be livestock. Thank you.. :D

At least they`re doing this out of good intentions. Given the numbers they give, a pooeload of people eat dog over there, and there`s no way they`re gonna stop that many them. From what I understand, they want to register it as livestock so they can enforce health regulations. The people keep eating their dog, the government makes sure it`s safe to eat. It`s a win-win situation.

And hell, I`d like to try roast dog, just for the experience. Then I`d bring home some of the meat and feed it to MY dog. Evil ftw. >:D

Meh, subjectivity. I could and would eat dogmeat, it`s not that appalling when you think about it. What, don`t eat them because they`re cuter? More helpful than a cow or pig? They`d be quite helpful as food, if you ask me. Why discriminate?

All I have to say for those that "lost their respect for" and "will never visit" Korea. Good! We don`t want you or your respect.

Small minded people piss me off. Like your drating culture doesn`t have things that are disgusting to others? I mean, take for instant the hotdog that was mentioned. Do you know what is in them? But American`s stuff them by the hand fulls. It`s everything from the face to the butt that the butcher can`t sell, grounded up and (in the olden day) shoved into the intestine of the pig.

Or whatever white culture that eats pig brains... I mean you people are so eager to jump onto the Judgment ship, but are unable to look in the mirror and see all the drating cracks with your culture.

You make me sick...It`s a difference in culture, not in level of right and wrong. Open your drating eyes and educate yourself.

OMG Nath!!!! I reallly shouldn`t have clicked on that. That really makes me sad.

How are any carnivorous animals nourishing, anyway? The nutrients from plants are already diminished when you eat herbivores....there are probably very few when you get down to eating carnivores.

That`s why most carnivores are better pets, quite frankly. They do so little for you nutritionally.
