I can"t wait for the movie based on this news story. I see Nicole Kidman and Gweneth Paltrow as two of the lead wives.

I think they just shouldn`t have 20 kids. In fact, I think they should limit parents to one kid a piece until my standard of living has improved.

Weren`t the Children of God the ones who thought that you had sex with Jesus or something?

Let me get this right. It should be legal/right for a "man" to father 20 kids by different women and not take care of any of them, but illegal/wrong for a man to father 20 kids by different women and take care of not only the kids, but the mothers as well? Underage marriage and sex is wrong, but it happens everyday in your neighborhood, where is the outrage there?

I liked squidb8`s point, that pretty much puts it into context. What they are doing is wrong.
Oh and i was raised in a cult, the children of god. maybe some of you might have heard of it, but brainwashing is a daily activity, although the members dont realize it, and at times i dont even think the leaders do. I`m out of it though, thank the gods.

I feel kind of sorry for them, just because it does seem like they want their children back desperately...but if you look at other reports on them, there`s something pretty iffy about how they live...

well a few more facts for anyone who`s interested- they have found 25 girls under the age of 18 who are pregnant, which means there are about 460 minors involved in the investigation. Also the police think that the `tip-off` they received may have been a hoax, but has led to the uncovering of abuse

1. the compound these women mention IS where they and their children were "herded" and where their children are in "great danger" now. if you`re going to make a point, pay attention to what you`re saying
2. these women are not only brainwashed, they are experienced at brainwashing others. you can tell by the way they manipulate everything they say into the idea that their children are in danger, that they have the freedom of american citizens, that they "lost" it inside the "compound," etc...they didn`t give a straight answer to anything EXCEPT for that
3. there does not exist any girl that would rebel against their "ranch," which, after being stated with such assurance, makes me wonder if they had something to do with her disappearance and therefore know that she will not be a problem to them anymore.
you can`t underestimate these people. they may act as naive as infants but they`ve lived their entire lives being able to manip

To those that talk about the compound. They say where they live, is not a compound. Then they say, that their children have been taken to a compound. They don`t contradict themselves. Learn to listen xD

They don`t answer the question, tho. We all know the answer, so what difference does it make.

Im glad the children are not there. You can tell they are horrified. Are they so scared that they would do this in risk of losing their kids? I just dont get it. I have kids and no man, woman, thing would EVER let me put them in harms way. May the REAL god have mercy on their souls.

The time they were talking about a compound, they weren`t describing their ranch, they were describing where they and their children were taken.
I`m not exactly against polygamy, it`s the fact that women are brainwashed since they`re children that I have a problem with. And those women did seem brainwashed. If a bunch of adults want to get together under different circumstances, it`s fine by me.

sqdp, I really don`t see anything wrong with being creeped out by them. Not everyone can think `well, I suppose they`re just different` and then not be freaked out when watching something so, well, creepy. I`m not neccessarily judging them, but you can`t help it if something weirds you out.

And I don`t think there`s anything inherently wrong with polygamy, though these women seem totally brainwashed, which rings alarm bells.
Then again, have a lot of people been `brainwashed` into thinking that monogamy is the right way to go? I was raised to think that.
I think the only people I REALLY judge here are the guys who had sex with kids...

I Cannot For One Second Believe That People Have Said "Give Them Their Children Back". Are You Being Serious? Let`s Hope You Don`t Want To Move To A Career Field That Involves Taking Care Of Children`s Rights. I Have Read Many Books Of Cults And It`s Very Common That ALL Underage Children Are Sexually Abused (Just Not Girls). This Isn`t The Right Environment For Children. I`m Really Glad They Have Been Taken Away, And God Forbid I Hope They Are Never Allowed Back.

"The men need to be stoned to death. The women need to be shot, and then the kids need to be euthanized."

*Vomits on you*

"Polygamy was probably invented by men".
Invented? Every other ape on earth is polygamous.
Over 50% of the world live in Polygamous societies.

MONOGAMY is what would have to be invented, and it would most likely have been done to quell unrest. If everyone (or most people) can have a girl, they`re less likely to misbehave.

It`s the same concept as equal distribution of wealth, except here the objects are women.

Not to mention the minor detail that at this point a quarter of all men are having "affairs", and 50% of men divorce and marry someone else.

Suuuuure, Monogamy is the natural state of things.

Furthermore:
"Few countries have any laws against living a polygamous lifestyle.. Parts of the United States, however [do]; these laws originated as anti-Mormon legislation".

Throughout the whole thing, it would sound like they were about to make a good point but then they would fall short. But that`s probably because they haven`t gone past a middle school education. I feel truly sorry for these poor women.

Stare at nothing with fake smiles?
First off, when in a television interview, it`s advisable to look at the camera...
Secondly, the "fake" smile could be due to lots of things, i.e., bewilderment. They`re still in absolute shock.

People are so quick to judge!

What the truth is..... These people have been brainwashed. Their kids will never be right in the head even if they are released. The men need to be stoned to death. The women need to be shot, and then the kids need to be euthanized.

well first off, that interviewer was struggling really hard to not offend them! it was gut wrenching how hard she was working on her wording

secondly i have issues with this whole thing. I believe that competant adults have the right to choose their life styles. the only problem is that lifestyles are being forced upon kids who are still developing. it bothers me when people so fiercly enforce extremely strict beliefs on kids, the people who refuse to let them grow. and its even worse when choices are taken away. 13 is young to be married off. the women are lying. they already know that some of the minors removed from the compound were pregnant or already mothers!

It really sucks for the kids. If they grow up at that freakshow FLDS compound, there`s no question they`re going to be seriously messed up as adults. (Or kicked out and left to fend for themselves, if they`re boys and there`s not enough girls to go around) Then again, foster care isn`t exactly ideal either, and with over 400 kids to put in foster homes you`re not going to get Texas` A-Team foster parents.

well obviously they look like the stepford wives, but that`s to be expected from someone who has let a group of men tell her that everyone else in the world is evil and she must remain an untouched rose....
come ON, these people have no place in modern society! the potential for abuse is astounding within such a tight nit community. I could very easily see a bad apple going after some 14 year old girl and claiming that the laws of his religion are what allow him to do it.
when it ends up in the supreme court, as it should, i got a fin that says it`ll be a doozy

I still feel like their lying through their teeth. Almost like the men had a meeting with the women before being interviewed. Telling them exactly what to say and what not to say.

It`s like their reading off cue-cards.

They should feel some slight remorse for lying... you know?

Okay, you are right, hehehenerd, but my initial reaction was as stated.
If you were raised with this lifestyle, it would be all you know, and you wouldn`t see the harm in how you lived. I do feel sorry for the children, being taken from their families in such a violent manner. But, if you`re going to live in polygamy then you need to be aware of potential repercussions. It is illegal in the U.S., and as such there is always a chance you could get caught.

listen, as creepy they may sound and act, remember this, where they grew up had no contact with the outside world, they were raised to believe what they do is right, and will obviously stand up for that. Imagine not knowing anything around you except for a lot of women, your children, and a few men, and then all the sudden your closest possesion is taken away from you. Then all of the sudden you see men with guns and TV cameras being shoved in your face, how would you react?
