Remember the Yale art student that had abortions as her final art project? Now it"s reported there"s more to the story.

Real or not, this girl has issues... Does she need attention so badly that this would even cross her mind? If she felt she did, then she needs some help... I hope she enjoys her fifteen minutes of fame...

"This is just as bizarre, and a little more disturbing because if she actually inseminated herself, she`s creating and destroying life (because an embryo is ALIVE even though it might not be a consciously aware child), which is rather sociopathic."
Oh please. Natural abortions happen ALL the time. *If* she did this herself, it`s no different. Only major thing is she messed up her insides to the point of not being able to have her own kids. Which is why I doubt any of it is real in the first place.

"If it`s true, and she did that - she`s sick. And the children will all be in Heaven, thank goodness."
*laughs*

Anyway, I still believe she was never pregnant. The email was not from her.

maybe someone should go kill this girl and make THAT into an art project. lets see how she feels about that. She is messed up and should be given therapy or something.

Even if there were any truth to the story, considering the incredible pain of one induced miscarriage, I sincerely doubt any young woman would willfully put herself through that more than once. Plus, the original article said the display featured "blood mixed with vaseline to keep it from drying" -- the number one problem being that with all the fear of bloodborne diseases, no one would display such a thing in their gallery. I could go on, but anyone with any sense could find enough holes in the original story to deem it most likely a hoax.

I can only hope that she is a fraud. The whole abortion issue is such a gray area that I would never denounce someone for doing it or not. My main feelings on it are if someone finds themselves pregnant unexpectently well then its their choice what to do BUT if she did in fact inseminate herself and induce abortions she had FULL KNOWLEDGE that she was both creating and destroying a life. If that was her main goal then that makes her in need of some severve help and intervention. Lets see where your "ingenunity" in art gets you in an asylum....because thats where she belongs if she willfully destroyed life or the potential for a new human being.

SICK BEYOND BELIEF!!! Heres hoping she is just a pathetic girl who thought of a inovative idea, albeit pretty warped, and ran with it but never executed it.

"that`s stupid to a dimension that i can`t even fathom."
lolol. agreed.

And honestly, I think it`s stupid that we`re arguing over "What is art". Personally, I think that art should be something beautiful that causes you empathy. I don`t agree to poo like this as "art". I`m so tired of people saying stuff like a blank canvas that represents something that the general public doesn`t understand is art. If your art piece doesn`t cause the viewer to feel what you want them to feel without you telling them how to feel, then that`s probably not good. Art is supposed to say something about the human condition and if your piece is so esoteric most humans don`t feel what you want form it, it`s not saying anything about the human condition. There is a difference between "expression" and "art". There is an art to art and that is to convey and evoke. To just express and say isn`t always art. It`s only when you strike a chord with most is it rea

"seriously, can we ever drop a topic when someone answers it? or is there always another question or arguement after it?"

Seeing as this is essentially a MESSAGE BOARD, it wouldn`t do anyone any good to keep silent when they have an opinion to express, would it?

“I take absolutely nothing more seriously than birth because creating life is the sole domain of Womyn,” the e-mail went on.

Womynhood? Such a joke.

Wait...so, they thought it was real, but found it really wasn`t, then she (or someone pretending to be her) said it *was* real, and now they`re saying it`s not again? I`m totally confused.

Ambiguity was the point, she told the student paper.

“No one can say with 100 percent certainty that anything in the piece did or did not happen,” she said. “The nature of the piece is that it did not consist of certainties. “

Yes...its very hard to get the truth when people LIE

ok I`ve badly written my opinion, but have one question... (and I called Shananegiens on this before) should abortion be treated as a pass time, or something that needs serious thought before being undertaken?

In case no one has said it yet. Right or wrong this is exactly wat se wanted, arguement , disscution , and outrage. She has now done exactly what she has set out to appomplish. It is not art it is getting a reaction. That is what art should do but I wouldn`t call it art. I can put a steamy turd in a boxc and put in a gallery...you react...is it art?

I have 2 children and I have had 3 miscarrages and I KNOW this is impossible to do let alone healthy. It can take up to two weeks before sperm can make contact with an egg.Dr`s have no way of telling when this happens.Once the sperm does make contact then takes about a month for hormones to be detected in a home test.Once that was confermed and she did force death, her body would go threw a period of time when it had to come back to normal state.Doing this more than once or twice, your body would learn to reject any pregnancy and inturn she will more than likely have major trouble EVER trying to conceave again. If everyone took a couple of minutes to study this, we would realize none of it adds up. I think its all for shock value and like fancyland said, it will go back and forth for days untill some gyno steps up and sets the facts straight. Either way, I think its a sick, twisted way of getting her 15 minutes of fame. In the end if she did do it, karma will give her hers.

this is just IMO, but i agree with fancylad. the story will probably go back and forth a few times. fake, not fake, fake, not fake, fake... and so on. her art is not the filming of several abortions, but the reaction it gets from the media. i find it VERY hard to believe that someone would purposefully get themselves pregnant, have an abortion and record it, several times, just for the sake of an art project.

That entire story shouldn`t have gotten any recognition at all...I am Pro choice, but I think the entire idea, publicity of it etc. is why we have the problems we have today..Focusing on lame, senseless, bull crap news and such, that real news and needed attention get sent to the floor or garbage can.... If I was a Professor, the HINT of such a project wouldn`t even be allowed or acknowledged! I am so pissed at this whole thing, that I am probably not making sense, I hope someone understands what I am trying to say....
Absolute Garbage!!!!
And in reference to the anti/pro choice people...
When it is YOUR body, YOU do with it what you want. YOU have to live with whatever you decide, and when a MAN can get pregnant, that`s when He can tell a woman what she can and can`t do with HER body...Until then, it`s none of anyone`s FKN business, his, or the church...they have enough to worry about with pedophile preachers!!! So.....

Hold on a minute... ok so where should the line be drawn? Are sperms alive? They do move, they do have a purpose, and they eventually *create* the embryo... if men destroy sperm via masturbation... they`ll burn in hell!!!

Oh wait there are actually some church doctrines that say that...

ok nevermind.

"No matter how ridiculous, pointless and crude, it is art."

As an artist, I actually resent that. Just because we are artists doesn`t give us the right to do whatever the hell we want and call it art. What gives you the right to say that all art is, is expression.

I really don`t give a flying drat about what some crazy college student is doing for attention. It`s not like she`s making a statement or pursuing a cause, so honestly, it`s just stupid.
But I do have something to say in response to p0`s comment-
"Art is a fantastic painting, sculpture, well filmed abstract recording, good music. Not a film of someone aborting repeatedly, blood gore and all. Shameful."

Art is expression. You are wrong to define it as something so preconcived...something that exists only to be admired and to decorate some gallery or some rich twat`s sitting room or in someone else`s iPod or whatever. Art is so much more than that-in that girl`s mind she was making art, however muddled and confused her `statement` was. You cannot denounce it as art because that`s what it was put out to be. No matter how ridiculous, pointless and crude, it is art.

I`ve seen some interesting "conceptual art" in my day.

Vito Acconci, one of my favorites, used to lie uner floarboards of his gallery and masturbate. He would film people`s reactions in the gallery. This is just one of the many bizarre features he`s done.

This is just as bizarre, and a little more disturbing because if she actually inseminated herself, she`s creating and destroying life (because an embryo is ALIVE even though it might not be a consciously aware child), which is rather sociopathic.

It`s her body, her choice. It`s not art in my book but people are paying attention, which is ultimetly the purpose of art!

Whilst I do think it`s a fraud, even if it`s not, it`s nothing nature dosnt do on it`s own!
