Well, at least that"s what the media is going to tell you.

I`d like to point out that there is no indication that the stabbing was in any way connected to the game. It`s more likely to have been for some other reason. If they knew that the person they wanted to stab really wanted to buy GTA4, then they knew where that person would be at that time, an obviously necessary part of stabbing them.

Nor did the mugging necessarily have anything to do with the game. It would be truly bizarre if the muggers didn`t steal anything else. Besides, people have been mugged for their trainers - should we ban trainers?

"The shoppers thought they were witnessing a promotional stunt for the launch."

Man1: Oh sick! That`s the knife they`re gonna use in IV! God I can`t wait, I bet it kills the citizens in 1 hit!

Man2: Oh boy, I really can`t wait for IV now!!

Man3: Hey, I didn`t see the beginning, can you do it again?

OMFG!

Are people so drunk/stoned/sad/impatient (delete as appropriate) enough to actually stab someone repeatedly for a fudgek`n game???!!

That is more rediculous than that wierdo Austrian a few days ago. I hope the attacker loses his game in a huge house fire with him in it.

It`s not the games fault someone was stabbed, it`s just that some people are too eager to get the game!

people lining up at midnight, with lots of money, in an otherwise empty area, are just asking to get robbed.

You have to admit it is a little bit funny...over a game? Im guessing the two muggers dont have jobs so they have to beat the crap out of someone to get the game. Which will no doubt be played on their stolen ps.

So we have one person who had their copy of the game (and who knows what else) stolen when they were mugged and one person who was stabbed outside a shop selling the game (with no indication there was any connection at all). This, somehow, "proves" that the game causes violence.

Following that "reasoning" leads to the conclusion that mobile phones and hamburgers are far more of a danger to society than GTA - more than one person has had their mobile phone stolen during a mugging and more than one person has been stabbed near a place selling hamburgers.

Some people are either morons, hugely gullible or looking for something simple to blame problems on rather than trying to find a real cause and a real solution.

Well if it was set in Britain I guess you would only have to programme for the weather being rain. If you think the media are on Rockstars back now just imagine the uproar if it was set in Britain. Too many people in Britain refuse to accept we have a problem with violence as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer

It being a British game, why can`t it be set in Britain?

Hey, I have an idea. Make a whole country in a game! Not a big one - Scotland, maybe. One day, systems will be able to handle it.

Thats it. BAN the game. Ban it ban it ban it! Its going to kill our children.
I`m just going now to watch the news about the poor girl found left in the basement then I`m going to watch Devils Rejects. On the way home I`ll read my local newspaper telling me about all the violence in the world and then I`ll choose the easy way out and blame a computer game for mankinds failings.

You know the scary thing? I visit that exact store whenever I go to Croydon. Croydon has stabbings all the time. I recognised the shop before I read where it was. Goddamn this freaks me out.
Makes sense being Croydon though.

I got mine at midnight in San Diego. It was a pretty mellow crowd and there was even a raffle for 5 $50 coupons at gamestop. Already logged 8 hours into the game. It rocks.

Also, while Niko is not Russian, the mob in the game is, along with a full Russian radio station. You may now guess what I listen to driving around. ;-)

By the way, I`ve been playing GTA games since the series was released in `97. That`d make it more than 1/3 of my life. I`m yet to stab, kill, run over someone, sell dope, talk like a thug or a mafioso or even get a traffic ticket. The critics can shove it.

Sout London at midnight...... What makes that sound like a bad idea?

People will always blame video games for their own bad parenting, they`ve been doing it for years. Even radio was considered to make people exil when it was invented.

Sorry for double-post, but I couldn`t help it.

"Last year teenager Ezekiel Maxwell butchered a grandmother after hearing "Gangster Voices" in his head from an earlier version of the game telling him to stab a woman."

COME ON, Who lets their highly likely schizophrenic kid play GTA?

A 11-year-old kid in my town tried to carjack someone while pretending to be Carl Johnson after playing GTA:SA.
The police brought the kid back to the parents, and the parents tried (And failed) to sue Rockstar games for making a violent video game.

It`s rediculous how they blame the game developers. Rockstar can`t control who gets the game.
The parents are pretty much to blame, who let their ADHD 11-year-old play the game.

It`s would be like shutting down a company like Southwest Airlines because someone hijacked one of their planes.

Meh. The only game that makes me violent is Oblivion when I forget to save after a big quest and my Xbox freezes or I die. -pause- .......God I need a life... -sigh-

People that actually seriously blame video games for violence don`t make sense. We all know it`s those darn crazy action movies and japaneeeese tv shows. Or something....Uh...BLAME THE PARENTS! ;D

Never mind the Bollocks! I wonder how many Archaeologists we can blame on Lara Croft? Am I gonna start throwing Dead Turtles at Cars as I Drive past them? Maybe, but not because of Mario Cart. Blaming the Game for the Violence is as Idiotic as Blaming Guns for Killing People. It`s the act of stupid non-nice individuals, nothing else.

Oh, I`m the media, look how smart I am.
Had someone been stabbed or mugged waiting for a new toaster to come out, they would have blamed black people. But they were waiting for a violent game, so it`s the game`s fault. drat the media.

im not suprised, but the critics are dumbasses for not blaming the real problem of underage gaming: irresponsible parents buying games they should know their kids cant handle. im an avid gamer myself, and i think if the kid is mature enough not to take what the see in a game and imitate it, then let them have it. i`ve seen both sides of the story in real life. some kids in my neighborhood play GTA and are fine, while others become violent and out of control as a result
