That sucks...I was hoping it would work because it looks like it would be a lot of fun and be very useful =/

My boyfriend said this can`t be good, because "you can`t fly in black in white... We didn`t have flying until we invented color." God I love him...

"That coat wasn`t even fashionable. Poor guy." Back then, style didn`t matter so much as the thing keeping you warm and dry. Oh, and I can`t believe no one`s said it... OWNED!

My french is a little rusty but I believe the caption says "How is that he did not sense the horrible fate that awaited him, the unhappy inventer hesitated before launching himself into the air."

Also Tayreed, you really in Bolivia? I have family there and visit there every once in a while. I don`t know what my point is, it`s just rare to meet someone who could point out the country on a map (at least in America) let alone have been there.

And why shouldn`t life be full of hugs and puppies? Hugs and puppies are awesome and if you don`t like them, go play with Hitler or something idk.

At least the people at the end seemed to be impressed as they measured the hole in the earth he left... wonder how deep it was?

For what it`s worth, it wasn`t exactly a stupid idea.

I mean, I`m not sure what *use* one would have for a parachute disguised as a fashion statement, but give the guy some credit.

...Why?...

He should`ve thought that through better instead of along the lines of:
"Look ma! No hands!"

I noticed his design looked kind of like a dart, so i guess he thought the wind would catch inside and safely land him, but instead, he flew towards the ground and "landed" with a poof. lol.

Why do I constantly see posts by people that imply that other people should be "nice"? That somehow, being mean-spirited is wrong. What difference does it make to anyone what anyone else thinks or says? If you don`t like something you read, see, or hear, then that`s just too bad. When did people get the insane idea that life should not hurt? Who sold everyone on this bill of goods that says life should be all hugs and puppies? Geez, grow the heck up and learn to deal. And for the record, visionary or not, this guy may not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Cy, they are kinda funny. I mean, the dead people aren`t going to care what you say about them.

Okay, there really should have been something soft to cushion the fall. Seriously, it doesn`t take much foresight to have a back-up plan in case the parachute-coat doesn`t work.

TBH, I`m getting tired of all these stupid gene pool remarks. The Darwin awards are mean-spirited and not very funny, and if it wasn`t for people mindlessly jumping on bandwagons, you`d probably see what poor taste they`re in.

`"Although he should have used a dummy first."

I believe he did.`

Ouch! (or did you mean that literally?)

Obviously, hindsight says he was an idiot, but give him credit for having the guts to actually try it. If it had worked, we wouldn`t be laughing at him.

After all, it`s not like Ben Franklin`s famous kite-lightning experiment was the brightest idea ever (if he actually did it in the way that he`s usually described to have).

Franz Reichelt, his death was sad but at least the gene pool was chlorinated a little the day he died

wow, that sucks. But at least he was trying a new desgin or invention, not just doing something stupid to cause his death. Although he should have used a dummy first.
