Until the whole world can co-ordinate its movements, I seriously doubt that we can make the world a `better` place for our children.

Nice commercial, but nothing out-of-the-ordinary when compared to all other environmental ones.

That was a wonderfully done commercial. Children are essentially blank slates. Their behavior is learned by people they look up to which includes parents, siblings, relatives, teachers, actors etc. We all have a duty to set a good example for our children. This commercial states what we all know, but some of us lack in doing.

I don`t think children are *entirely* blank slates.

Some are treated horribly and learn to take it as an example of how to *not* act, I`ve seen it in a lot of extreme situations.

It`s like saying a kid is made out of clay, as opposed to rock, or play-doh, or anything else... The parents and teachers, and experiences only mold it out of what it already is, it can`t change it into something it would never be.

So even if the child was raised in circumstances where bad situations happen like that, it doesn`t mean they *will* do it as well.

    porn
    more beer
    drugs
    celebs
boobs on tv (in music vids)
    rap
    britany spears.

You`re right, sometimes a person will get lucky and learn to break the cycle. But you can`t deny that what we do has an influence on the children who look up to us. And for every child who learns to break the cycle, there will be three children who don`t, and even the ones that do, there might still be a lot of damage that will be a lot harder to fix when they`re an adult, even though they`ve become better people than their parents.

So basically, maybe some of our children will break the cycle and be better than us, but if we try and be better now for their sakes, they will have better potential for it, as well as the potential to be better, still.

Ah. I agree with teiso. My mom grew up in a house with a drunk dad, mother who didn`t care, guns going off, sisters trying to stab one another, basically living on her own, etc. And while she`s def not them, she married someone who was controlling and now that they`re divorced, she`s over protective ad slightly controlling, though she`s getting better. Things that happen in our childhood effect who we become as adults.

    Smart commercial.

This whole commercial is just an argument to the whole nature vs. nurture debate. I grew up around drug addicts and drug dealings and all that crap, and all that did to me was to vow never to do drugs or have relations with those who do, so obviously nurture isn`t everything. For those who believe in the nature side of the debate, this commercial isn`t worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on. Not saying anything going on in this commercial is right, none of this should happen ever, but it does.
One thing I got from this commercial is that the guy beating his wife should care more about how it influences his kid than how it hurts his wife, isn`t there something wrong with that. So the guy realizes this and then only beats his wife when his kid isn`t around, now he gets an A+ because he`s not influencing his kid, makes sense I guess. I just think we should think more of what and who we are directly hurting when we are doing these things and stop, so w

don`t even have to worry about who we might be indirectly hurting. But for those who believe in the nurture side of the argument, I do see how this could be powerful, so more power to ya and maybe this commercial will help you try to start making the world a little better.

And what the hell is up with all the Americans on this site bashing America? Just to let you know, you could be a hell of a lot worse off living somewhere else than America, so stop complaining and try to be grateful for what you have, because many people would love to have what you do have here in America.

When it comes to nature vs nurture, I don`t think you should exclude either as an influence to who a person grows up to be. Nature might affect how one reacts to nurture, but nurture is what provides the stimulus and memories for them to react to, and both play a part in who a person is.

I don`t think there are people born to be wife-beaters, for example.

But you are right. We should better ourselves not just for the sake of the children, but for our own sakes, too, and for the sake of everyone around us, regardless of age. And not to be an example, but to do good and not hurt people etc.

But I think this ad might challenge people who know inside that what they do is wrong but don`t feel they have the motivation to change. Those are the people who I think this ad could potentially speak to, and help them realise a very important motivation.

    well, that was impacting...

i intend to have a very loving home when i get older, i hope most others do too.

and i believe kids still need guidance after they can think for themselves (teenagers, for example). I know i am one, and i won`t deny that I need help getting through. It`s a very different world from how my parents grew up, and from how their parents grew up. Parents, adults, everybody should recognize how things around children impact them, and need to adopt parental/teaching/morality methods to help these children to become great people.

it`s not just the influences` job too, the children must be willing to help themselves.

Great message and yes more intrest in how ALL children are raised-taught-shown and LOVED is desperately needed, or what we see today is mild in comparison to what is coming. However, until `men` & `women` have hearts of morals and values (a sense of right and wrong-good and evil) and self worth...only then are children going to have these kind of good examples on a much larger scale. We adults ALL need to learn how to love ALL people. I myself found this knowlege from a man called Jesus.

"make the world better for the children"?
I say: make the world better for all of us, young and old.
We can`t dictate each other, but we can tend to our own behaviour.
Be nice, and the world becomes a nice place.
    Peace, you lovely people.

The commercial was cute for the first 30seconds than it showed a kid helping his father beet his wife and yelling at the baby, and at that point I decided that im never going to get married or have kids Im not going to beat my family. Plus kids are stupid because they are taught to be stupid seriously pay attention to your kids a retarded monkey could see that answer clearly but 500,000 parents cant?!

In this day of teh intarweb, it takes a lot to `shake` me. This commercial did it the first time I saw it 2 months ago and did it again on IAB. As someone who deals with the results of domestic violence on a daily basis, this gets a message out that we all need to understand. Remember how cute it was when the baby would copy what you did when you played with it ? Well, it doesn`t stop.

This brought a tear to my eye. It`s so true, kids are so easily influenced, what we do around them has a direct influence on what they will do.
    It makes me wish I had been nicer to my brothers. ;_;

If only this was shown on Fox News in between WWF, monster trucks, Jeff Foxxworthy, KKK speeches and Britney Spears porn. Then, maybe the few Americans who aren`t drunk at McDonald`s after hunting would pull their heads out of their asses long enough to stop blaming other races for their problems and driving their SUV to watch it.

    (Am I doin it rite?)

Also, I`m so proud of our scientists! Isolating parents as the concern over everything and everyone else they come into contact with had to be hard work! I`m glad we know it`s just parents now!

    i liked it

its really stupid when you think about it. If you saw a kid doing any of those things (littering, swearing etc) you would be appalled and would think badly of them, but when adults do it, it seems to be okay cuz theyre older and (supposedly) more mature.

    i strongly dislike people

if uve watched the movie The Secret
and u know how they talk about the Law of Attraction
    its completely false
cuz if ur thinkin positive things but some guy thinkin negative things that has a gun comes up and shoots u, it duznt matter how many good thoughts u hav, u still got shot
now if evry1 had good thoughts, it wud b a different story
this relates to the vid bcuz it wud take evry1 in the world acting good to set a positive example for kids, not just 1 person
cuz some1 will com along and b dat bad example

Agreed. There should be more commercials like these. A very positive message.
Even though I`m still basically considered a child, when I was 8-9-10 years old, it was nothing like it was for me as it is for the 8-9-10 year olds today.

In those few years, it looks to me that more and more close-minded, hurtful, violent, etc children.

I also blame the media, not just the parents.
    Well, I blame everyone, really.

Aaaaaah! The little boy checking his imaginary watch is soooooo cute!

BTW, who the drat screams at a baby? Is it one of those "I`m too stupid to understand that my child can`t understand, so I`ll be an non-nice individual" things?
