Yankee, your statement proves your ignorance so profoundly, that I am embarrassed for you. I`m not sure what you mean by the 2A being a "crutch" for gun owners. It was written so the citizens of the US would never be subjects to a foreign crown OR any other force that may arise. I know you see no need for this right, but some day perhaps you will understand.
I am not sure why you mentioned semi autos, but I suspect it was in reference to the weapons around when the 2A was written. The signers intended the citizens to have weapons on par with the military so they would never be oppressed by the government. Back when the Constitution was written, muzzleloaders WERE assault weapons.
Your statement about not owning a gun, or knowing anyone who does, automatically disadvantages you in this conversation. You have forfeited your second amendment rights, but don`t tell me I have no need of them. Take a gun safety class, get some range time, and then come talk to me about the 2A

However, if we give up that basic idea of resisting oppression, this whole country will be reduced to a peasant state under the auspices of a government that is unchallengeable, and we will be at it`s mercy if the leaders turn out like Stalin, Hitler, or Mao. No thanks. I`d rather die fighting than die in a concentration camp for speaking out.

And yes, most Americans DO own guns.
http://www.reason.com/news/show/28021.ht...
Take children and convicted felons out of the equation, and at least half do. It`s extremely common, and because you don`t know anyone who owns one means nothing. A lot of people have guns in their home and don`t respond to surveys because they don`t want to have them confiscated, like they were in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Oh that`s right, we have nothing to fear from our government. They`d never try to disarm the populace. Except they did. Go on youtube and google new orleans confiscation. Sadly, that was the worst situation, because most of the people there were in no position to resist the government troops taking their weapons. A lot of Americans couldn`t do it either. However, if we give up that basic idea of resisting oppression, this whole country will be reduced to a peasant state under the auspices of a govern

Yankee, you just uttered every anti-gun cliche in the book, and they`re all BS.

The second amendment is not a "crutch" for anything. Is the fourth amendment a crutch for people who don`t want to be illegally searched? Is the first amendment a crutch for anyone who speaks their mind? That`s one of the worst non-sequiters I`ve ever heard.

Kids killed accidentally? The numbers seem to vary on that, largely because when it does happen, it`s reported by every Brady-friendly website on the internet. Never mind that every single day in this country, guns are used to save lives, often without even being fired, to the tube of about 1.5-2 million reported instances every year. Try doing some actual research and stop taking cues from the top stories on the mainstream news networks.

^^I think the point of that is to always have armed citizens so they can change governments through force if needed. Also auto accidents are the leading cause of death in children would you like to ban those too.

BFLH, I am not ignorant and I don`t hate anyone. I just think Heston was an arrogant jerk. I read his book, I`ve seen interviews with him and he comes off as a smug creep.

The whole second ammendment thing is just a crutch for gun lovers. Think of how many kids have been killed accidentally or otherwise because their parents owned guns. Also most Americans do NOT own guns. I don`t own one, no one I know owns one.

The 2nd ammendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

When is the last time we needed a well regulated militia? I see nothing about keeping semi-atomatic weapons for home defense.

Wow. There`s so much wrong with your statement, I am tempted to think it`s trolling, but I suspect it`s just ignorance.
Our Second Amendment was designed to be a failsafe; a final step in our system of checks and balances that ensures the people of the United States will have the ability to throw off a tyrannical government and re-establish a democratic system in its place. This is only possible through the right to keep and bear arms. Of course the ability to defend one`s self and family are vital as well, and this is the primary reason most Americans own firearms. They use these weapons in self-defense well over a million times a year, and often the mere presence of a gun is enough, no shots need be fired.
As far as the airliners go, well that`s why we have the United States Air Force, the finest and most lethal air force the planet has ever seen. Of course I expect this to fall of deaf ears, as your location reads "Europe" and our cultures are very different

There are too many American high school students, and therefore they sadly have to be humanely culled sometimes. Their bodies do not go to waste, members of the NRA tan their fresh young skins and use them to upholster the interior of their pickups.

Also, when China finally attacks with bio warfare and nukes, or when Bin Laden sends another load of airliners over, they will be easily defeated by a bunch of fat ignorant low-IQ rednecks in baseball caps bearing TEK-9`s. Thus, the right to bear arms is vitally important to the future survival of the USA, and therefore the galaxy. Don`t let any goddam pinko hippy with one of them useless edumacation thangs tell you otherwise.

Yankee15:
That is exactly the ignorant, blind hatred I was talking about. He didn`t "fall from grace" and descend to the depths of the NRA, he stood up for our rights BECAUSE he believed in them. ALL of them, the 2nd amendment included. If you don`t want to exercise it, that`s your choice, but don`t condemn Heston for helping to ensure that millions of other Americans could.

He was a conservative, gun-loving, arrogant bastard. I loved most of his movies but as a person he was a jerk. Amazing that a guy could go from being an equal rights activist to being the president of the NRA is amazing.

Hmmm, he marches for civil rights, and he`s a hero. He stands up for our second amendment rights, and suddenly he`s a monster.
Maybe he was just a fan of RIGHTS no matter what. Maybe he appreciated the Bill of Rights in its entirety.

And the Bowling for Columbine footage was manipulated by Moore to make it appear as though Heston was campaigning on the heels of the Columbine shooting. The footage shown was taken years earlier. Michael Moore is an ass and a liar.

Regardless of his maniacal gun enthusiasm, he *was* a very good actor, playing some of the greatest roles in cinematic history. So, RIP, Charlton.

More proof that if everything that you know about the world comes from Michael Moore movies, you end up sounding like an idiot.
