A eerie gothic tale about love, fear and death. And the moral is: it"s all your fault. Always. Great animation.

You guys obviously haven`t heard any of the band`s music before. Their songs are like novels and they`re all surrounding the black butterfly.

There are 2 things that hint that the guy and the monster are the same person. When the monster is climbing up the tower, if you pause at one point it`s the guy not the monster, and the other one when the guy is running behind pillars, between 2 of the pillars which are close together, it`s the monster not the guy.

When the butterfly came back to life, I thought that maybe the lover would come back to life too. It didn`t happen. I thought they looked cool, but not the 2nd personality/monster of the dude. He made me barf a little.

Animation was quite nice..but that song was AWFUL! Ugh...it made me wanna stop watching! The only reason i left the sound on was because i didn`t know if their would be speaking at the end or something.

Whatever, DaveyyBooy. Would anyone call this Lovecraftian? Although I think it`s a stretch to say that it`s of the same nature as Poe`s work, you can`t deny that the animation was Burton-esque.

He sees the monster because he`s experiencing memories as an onlooker to the situation, detached from it. And then he realizes that the monster is himself.

wow, thanks lauraly and nerdfighter! you guys really cleared it up! i think if i would have arrived at the MPD thing eventually, but i don`t think i would have completely understood all the small details, like the hands in the beginning.

good people DO exist on IAB! :D

Uh this sucked. It was nothing like Poe or Burton (that`s an insult to their work if you ask me). And it made no sense. I understand your arguments about MPD, but that`s not really how it works. If they were two personalities of him, how would he see the monster dragging her 500 feet away in a cave? And how would he see its hand pulling her off of that ledge. This is gay. Oh and the music drating blew chunks.

By removing the girl, he cripples the power of the weaker personality, and is able to take over.

So we see two themes here: man vs. himself, and love vs. selfishness (hate and love are too similar, selfishness is the true opposite of love).

And of course the overall destructive nature of love.

in response to Kaizer250

You have to consider that some people develop MPD to supplement missing qualities in their life. How do I put this...a weaker quiet person may wish to be more dominant, so much to the point that they develop a dominant, and overpowering personality.

Their motives could aid in this process; they may want to be stronger to protect someone, or because they fear for their life. Enough to create a new personality (have you ever seen Fight club?).

I think this clip DOES explain why he develops the alternate personality.

Going off the theory that the alternate personality is a supplicant personality, then you can assume it is his sub-concious interest to be alone, and in control. It may also mean that he secretly hates himself.

How can we support this? When the girl is around we see the weaker personality. Because she brings out "the good" in him.

This is a threat to the stronger personality, as he wants to take over, not share. By removing th

Kaiser250, I answered that question. =)
"So, to answer your comment Kaiser250, the MPD was most likely caused by something that happened in his childhood. The video gives no reason for it, but there can be little doubt as to the meaning."

In other words, no, the video didn`t show how he developed the disorder as it most likely happened in childhood, but I cannot see another conclusion.

Well, I liked the animation and everything, but the story was a little predictable. Actually, it kind of sucked. To the person who called is poe-esque, I hate you and you do not recognize a good story if you think this is on par with any of poe`s work. Also, goth music is silly.

Nice info, but what I meant is did you see any clues in the video as to how he may have developed the disorder? Odd though, because alternate personalities usually yield to the wants and will of the core personality, a.k.a. the host. Still, it was certainly a well-made video.

A good explanation as to why a person might develop MPD:
"Children are not born with a sense of unified identity-it develops from many sources and experiences. In overwhelmed children, many parts of what should have blended together remain separate. Chronic and severe abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) during childhood is frequently reported by and documented in patients with dissociative identity disorder. Some patients have not been abused but have experienced an important early loss (such as a death of a parent), serious medical illness, or other overwhelmingly stressful events.
In contrast to most children who achieve cohesive, complex appreciation of themselves and others, severely mistreated children may go through phases in which different perceptions and emotions are kept segregated. Such children may develop an ability to escape mistreatment by "going away" or "retreating" into their own mind. Each developmental phase may be used to generate di

According to Wikipedia (which really just had this information written out in the easiest format to both post here and for others to understand; I looked at a lot of sites): "The causes of multiple personality disorder have not been identified, but is theoretically linked with the interaction of overwhelming stress, insufficient childhood nurturing and an innate ability to dissociate memories or experiences from consciousness. Prolonged childhood abuse is frequently a factor, with a very high percentage of patients reporting documented abuse often confirmed by objective evidence.

Others believe MPD is created iatrogenically by therapists using certain treatment techniques with suggestible patients though this idea is neither confirmed nor universally accepted."

So, to answer your comment Kaiser250, the MPD was most likely caused by something that happened in his childhood. The video gives no reason for it, but there can be little doubt as to the meaning.

Fantastic animation and story. Very artistic. But I HATED the music - I didn`t feel it suited the story at all.. perhaps some haunting melody on an old piano would have been more appropriate..? I don`t know. I just found it a bit much.

Oh, and the hands behind him at the beginning are just to show that he is slowly being taken over by this evil second personality.
0
Reply
Female 2,258
whyaskwhy, he had multiple personality disorder, and was experiencing the event through the eyes of the part of him that loved her. Meanwhile his second personality was the one who killed his lover. People who have MPD suffer from significant amnesia, which is why he can`t remember the event through the eyes of the part of him that killed her. In the end, the monster (the secondary personality that killed the woman) won out, and took over.

As far as the butterfly goes, it could just be a metaphor for metamorphosis.

Female 275
ok i really wanna figure this out:

so the butterfly obviously has something to do with it. i don`t think the butterfly IS the monster by itself, and she wasn`t wearing the butterfly when the monster took her away, so do you think maybe the guy was the monster all along? like, once he let the butterfly out of the box he was under control or something? because you don`t actually see him when she`s taken, and when he`s running trying to find them i swear it flicked for a second, andhe was the monster.
but, it doesn`t make sense that he could be the monster when he saw the hand pull her down and also when the hands almost got him at the beginning.
so i dont know, but i REALLY want to figure it out!
