I`ve met this guy, he`s british, and he works in Devon. Did a "howling with wolves" evening with him, and he is for real. He is amazing at what he does.

The little baby wolf trying to howl was cute. Also, I admire that guy for having that kind of commitment to animals.

This reminds me of something, remember the grizzly man Timothy Treadwell? He spent time with grizzly bears and eventually got killed and eaten.

Samson07 - His wife left him because he spent more time with wolves than with her. Rather sad, but I can see her point. He lived with his pack, which isn`t something you can do from 9 to 5 and then go home for the night. You have to eat with them, sleep with them, be part of your pack.

I think the most startling thing about him is the way he can switch between man and wolf in a heartbeat. For example, I`ve watched him feeding. Obviously, he eats bits of dead deer and stuff, with his packmates. As always, hierarchy matters - the higher the position of the wolf, the better the food. So every wolf has a specific place at feeding and a specific part of the kill to eat. As always, there is jostling for pack position. Shaun Ellis was talking to camera, as a man, explaining this. A lower-status wolf sniffed at the part of the kill that Shaun Ellis earned with his, higher, position in the pack. That was a clear (to a wolf or Shaun Ellis) challenge for position in the pack. He broke off talking to camera as a man and snarled as a wolf into the other wolf`s face (thus asserting his dominance over the challenger), then switched back to man and explained that to camera. The man/wolf/man switch was startling.

Oh, sorry, he is... I hadn`t caught the beginning of the show, and I`m trying to remember details from about a year ago ^^; And didn`t feel like clicking on the wiki article because I had to run and take care of something...

But the show talked a lot about Poland, and I guess that was because of the farmer there. From not seeing the beginning of the show, it made it sound like he had been from Poland himself.

Miquaight - he is familiar enough with lupine behaviour to be able to assert his position in the pack without fighting. It can be done if you can detect the first signs of a potential challenge and convince the potential challenger that you deserve a higher position. Wolves don`t usually fight for position - it`s much more subtle than that. If he was taken by surprise by a challenge that got to a fighting stage, he`d have to show submission in the appropriate way for a wolf and then accept a lower position.

I saw it, it is pretty cool. Also, when he teaches them as pups to howl (like the clip here) it is basically one of the cutest damn things ever.

Okay, by my research, the reason he was licking int he wolves mouth, he was showing dominance. The wolves getting all licked in their mouth are the weak ones, the alfamale (I think how you spell it) will go around and make out with all the other wolves...
Which kinda sounds backwards to me...

Sure, he`s a little odd, but that`s a really interesting idea

Sorry but i think this is awsome....

But what if one of the males wanted to take over... if it started on him it`d win by miles... faster, stronger and with a lot more sharp pointy bits...

i saw this on tv last year.
he actually helped a farmer deal with a wolf problem by recording the sound of a wolf pack, so when the wolves heard it they would think that the farm is already owned by a rival wolf pack and back away.
