You have to give this A320 pilot credit in getting his airplane on the ground despite the obvious crosswinds.

We should give him points for not getting his plane on the ground.

^^ @Loofah, Air Traffic Control can give clearance, but it`s the pilot`s decision whether he/she wants to attempt a landing given the conditions...

    Well description fails big time...

But I can devinitely imagine everyone on the plane saying "OH poo" at the same time when just before trying to land one of the wings almost touched the ground.

I`m sure that the pilot was in an uncomfortable situation already to attempt that landing. Possibly low on fuel and couldn`t make his alternate airport?

Pfft. That`s nothing. I can`t even tell you how many flights I`ve been on where I`ve experienced much worse (Rapid decompression, falling 3,000 feet in mid flight, engine failure in flight etc..) At least the pilot was smart enough to go missed and abort the landing.

I always wonder whether commercial aircrafts have pilot ejection seats like fighter aircrafts?

Imagine the air hostess announcing that the pilot of your flight has just ejected himself and we are waiting for the plane to crash

Yeah, this is nothing. I was once in a 747 that landed in a hurricane, in the dark, at around midnight. The pilot attempted and failed to land at least 5 times, and when the he finally landed, the plane bounced like 50 times and the landing felt like a brick dropping onto the ground. My butt was hurting by the time the plane finally completed landing.

The airplane`s wing didn`t touch the runway, the dirt you see coming up is from the engines put to full thrust to climb again.
And such angled approaches aren`t that uncommon, the 60 knots winds are that the Hamburg Airport had that day. And cross wind landings are part of flight school, as you most likely have to touchdown like that on runways near the sea or in a narrow valley where winds are constant and easily build up.
