10:1 we get Net Neutrality. Not that it is a better way of doing things...but as the old saying goes...he who has the money, has control.

I didn`t even know this was an issue. Eh, worst comes to worst, we can just string up a buncha yarn and tin cans. That`ll teach em!

Frightening turn of events. Though I`m not surprised.
Radio and TV monopoly has been implimented before, so why not the net?
Every kind of expression, bar face to face communication, can be "guided", can be steered and controlled. Big brother?
I don`t buy the whole conspiracy thing, though I do believe if someone can make a buck from controlling something, they will.
And do.
Food for thought.

Capitalism sucks.

This is very interesting. I am really glad I saw this. And I may be wrong but wouldn`t there be sooo many people against major industries taking over the web that they couldn`t?

What if you get your internet from a cable company, not a phone company. Is there a difference? Should we be afraid of the cable companies also? BTW, nicely done vid.

lol @ epoxysuit
Geez I hope this doesn`t happen. But if you think about all the people against it, plus the fight for internet power between different companies in different countries, it seems doubtful that this would happen. However you never know...

This isn`t happening in Canada, right? Anyway, Anonymous won`t let this happen. Heads will roll. It would never stand. If they did dare to do this, it would destroy their companies, guranteed.

kairobert, capitalism is the sh*t. And a simple way to get around this is through capitalism. AT&T wont, SupraTelecom Will. If you dont like the private internet, switch to a company that will not offer that (and if all companies switch they might get sued for corporate collaboration).

And this has been going on for years. Its not going to happen, its only a dream for the phone companies, whats wrong with dreaming? As long as they make the nice commercials they make AT&T can dream all it wants. Internet neutrality is blown out of proportion.

Ya know... Maybe Karl Marx Had something going there when he said that there would be a worldwide violent uprising... If this goes through, The entire country will most likely revolt against the Big corporations.

Or It could just be me being paranoid. Just throwing that out there.

lmao - they`ve given up pestering us about global warming and moved on to something else. The fact that people are getting in a twist about this says more about the control people have over us than any of the content of the video.
We are made to live in fear of something, to unite against it. Read Orwell`s "1984" and it will all make sense.

They`d never be able to change the entire internet. It`s just too huge. Simple.

never gonna work out unless they get government support. we have the technology to create our own network, just like we have now in case anyone tried to take over the internet. i just dont see it happening.

It`s true. Any company who tries this will probably go bankrupt. People will either change their ISP, get a good ISP, one that isn`t advertised on tv such as t1, or go over seas to get teh internetz.

How does a country plan on taking over millions upon millions of servers`s data from every country on Earth?

A phone company can build a "Second internet" as such - thats perfectly possible... But they can`t say we have to swap from the one we already have.

Wow, I`ve heard of bad ideas but this one really sucks.
How do they expect this to work? There`s always going to be at least one phone company who won`t take control, and they will get MORE profits than the ones that do take control. Who wants to pay to go on the net? I`d have to pay like, $1 to get on IAB. People aren`t going to pay.

My favorite proponent of net neutrality is named Leslie Hall. For an unforgettable experience look up her name in Youtube. Of course, you might not be able to un-see whatever you see there - don`t say you were never warned LOL.

think about it, they control the means of transportation for the information, not the actual content itself. they could decide to put restrictions on the kind of information sent. "ooh this website`s content is not to our liking...! we will not let this go through our digital transportation system! because we control the connection!...."

this could start to suck bigtime real soon...

I will become a renegade crusader against corporate america if this ever happens. Ill just pick up my roots and become a nomadic entity hellbent on the distruction of the corporate world, gaining supporters in my cause throughout the US.

Thats just me though.

There is an entire website that supports the video here. http://savetheinternet.com/

You can sign petitions there, and send letters and e-mails directly to congress in order to save the internet as we know it. I`ve been going there and doing so for a couple years now. I even look at that topic when it comes to who I plan to vote for.

The Australian government just released an internet filter. It`s an opt out rather than opt in scheme that more people would speak out against if they knew it was happening/understood the consequences. IMO this is the sort of thing that should be handled privately.

I am glad someone made a video about this!

However, I`m suprised they didn`t touch on government censorship/filtering. The potential of this is bleedingly obvious and already happening, the great firewall of China, Pakistan blocking You Tube, bloggers being arrested ect.

Though if the internet is really `based in reality` then I think we`re all screwed lol.

The Internet itself isn`t something that can be taken over, but a city`s access to the Internet IS something that can be taken over. Look at China and Korea.

As for the argument that a group of hackers could set up their own network, that is true. But how would you know about that hacker`s network? I know how to call AT&T or Verizon...but I don`t know the number to H4xX0Rz`s internet server in Los Angeles. How many of you here know how to use IRCs? Hackers and other independents will always be a resource, but there`re only a few people who will be able to take advantage of that resource.

The tough part about this kind of fight, is that these are the kinds of laws that get passed one year, but don`t get enforced until the next year. So by the time people realize what happened and get pissed off, it`s too late to argue with the legislature.

If net neutrality dies then capitalism will die with it. The world will become fed up of being controled through big corporations who keeps pushing everyone else who dont work for them aside for their own benefits.

The first World Wide Revolution.

Unless some huge socio-economic changes occur in America it is only a matter of time before the Internet is reigned in and turned into an efficient tool for spreading consumer propaganda. Spreading awareness and information are the best ways to sow the seeds of change. Thank you for this video.

I never knew that this was happening,

but the video musta taken forvever to produce, must of been a school project or something

but it was really long

ON THE SUBJECT OF THE VIDEO ITSELF

i highly doubt that the internet will actually turn into a one way media
television and radio and newspaper all did because people didnt have the money or acsess likwe people do today,
with a team of hacker and tech geeks wthey could set up there own network

it just probably wont happen

This could be big. Still, from the support it`s already getting, I dont think it will work out for the corporations.

Or maybe it`s just more paranoia. Theres plenty of it on the net.

Either way, those guys at 4Chan will probably blow up a few AT&T buildings before they let this happen. You know, that whole "we are anonymous" thing...
