    i love penn and teller.

And what they are saying is very true- and for every logical break, it is expected in the christian faith to make a "leap of faith"

religion should be based out of logic, faith should only apply in the believe of a higher power, like God.

    religion and science ftw.

seen this a while ago, so many flaws in their point.
One, the Bible isn`t meant to be completely literal. He missed that key point.
Noah did not have all the animals in that arc. What was important was "And Noah did exactly as the Lord told him". and I dont feel like watching this again so I will randomly fast forward. Isn`t it Chris Ferguson who plays poker but he just looks like Jesus? Shows how much research he does.
Also most hebrew laws were removed. Yeah Penn is a waste of time.

    quick question:

how many people believe men have one less rib than women?

i always wonder if people believe that. a bit off topic, i know, but this video made me remember talking about this in anatomy, and all the christian kids getting really upset about it.

    Trent ,

Men do not have one less rib. At the time it is assumed man had a rib taken to create woman...making them even. Man started with one extra ;)

And the people who disagree with this vid are 13-17 age range. Your small minds will eventually develop once you leave home kiddies.

"One, the Bible isn`t meant to be completely literal. He missed that key point."

So, who is it up to to determine what is literal and what isn`t? Adam and Eve can`t be literal since there would be no genetic variation. The references to Earth being flat must be metaphor. Why not just say God is a metaphor for the universe?

Whenever a Christian says that the Bible isn`t meant to be taken literally, it simply means that they have encountered an impasse where real science contradicts their fantastic wonderland, and bend over backwards to make ends meet. It is an unwillingness to accept that part of the Bible could possibly be wrong, and it is maddening to anyone trying to use fact and logic.

you guys are funny, you can`t argue against it so you just say it`s stupid or it`s boring.

    By the way primetimekin

You`re right, the bible isn`t to be taken completely literally, just the parts the Christians feel are convenient for them.

If Noah didn`t take all the animals on the boat, how come they`re still all here? And don`t say they`re not, because the numbers they were using were the amount of animals there are now, they were assuming there weren`t any animals left behind, because if they were, they`d be extinct.

Good video, the sooner people realise the fallacies of religion the better; the concept of it has brought too much destruction and division.
That part showing people demanding the 10 commandments back was a bit disturbing, American Christian faith looks far too zealous and fanatical for my liking.

This sickens me. Their "points" they brough up were based on pure speculation, and they claim that CHRISTIANITY is based on stories?!?

"They were probably referring to the REED Sea"
WTF IS THAT! Probably?! You criticize us for not having scientific proof, and you go and say PROBABLY?!

And the bible is FULL of metaphors. Most things aren`t meant to be taken literally. And the thing is, most people think that we "pick and choose" which laws we want to follow, when the fact is, the bible is TAUGHT to us. We KNOW which ones are meant to be literal because its been PASSED DOWN. The same thing goes for anything in history. How do you know Hitler was really a murderous tyrant? Because we`re TAUGHT that form people who were THERE. Years from now people will still know about Hitler. Or any other historical figure. Because it will always be passed down.

As for the Moses thing, names are translated incorrectly all the time.I`m no scholar, so for all I

I can believe that God is a metaphor for the universe, a desperate and understandable way of trying to make sense of the nonsensical madness that is this existence.

I don`t believe in God one bit and have to admit I have never met a questioning intelligent mind that did. I live in Britain where no-one believes in God and to do so will have you labelled a nut-job so none of this is news to us.

The bible is BS and you cannot pick and choose verses, surely by doing so you are elevating your judgement above God`s. So go stone your kids to death and sell your daughters into slavery and see how happy and harmonious this world will be with your religions.

    Part 2:

They might have just said that. Like I said, names are mistranslated. Yah it`s true there might be some things in the bible that are not exactly as they were written 2000 years ago, but that doesn`t mean they don`t get the same point across. Ugh. You atheists, Penn and Teller, and everyone else backing up all this "bullpoo" are all incredibly uneducated. I honestly feel sick.

Historical evidence for Hitler is everywhere. We have pictures, documents, all kinds of historical material. The Bible, on the other hand, has people jumping all over each other at the *possibility* that there might be evidence for Jesus.

i personally find religion a way for the weak willed to give themselves a boost in life, i believe religion is comepletely stupid, and i also believe that this video is great. i believe that thje first page of the bible was lost many many years ago and read something along the lines of "in memory of justin, all characters portrayed within this book are fiction, and any resemblance to any persons living or dead is entirely coincidental". religion is stupid because it causes people to judge others for their beliefs, for example if someone wants to argue with me you will be setting a prime example of that, religion causes wars for no good reason, and in general religion has done nothing of particular use to the world. to the guy who said how do we really know hitler was a murderous tyranthe started WW2 and got millions of people killed because he belived germans to be a superior race and he got beaten by his father, who happened to be a jew, actually sounds a lot like most relig

You must be quite narrow-sighted if you think that I or anyone else would call all theists inherently evil. You`re also ignorant if you think Charles Darwin is somehow the father of atheism, and that you are proving some telling blow.

All religions are based on stories no more real than the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. That alone is enough to deserve condemnation.

Before I start, I`m a big believer in the Big Bang.
The movement of the galaxies is an explanation that the universe is ever expanding. It doesn`t necessarily the Big Bang. Other theories such as the splitting universes into muliverses and dimensional expansion also uses the expansion of the universe as evidence too.

Why is this a debate anyway? You can`t prove either side of the story. You can`t prove that Moses separated the Red Sea, but you can`t disprove it either.

It`s still a question of faith vs disbeleif, really. Why does everyone have to be insulting to each other?

Atheists, you go ahead with your beleifs, don`t insult us that beleive in God. People with religion, don`;t insult those that don`t beleive in God.

Neither sides have ANY right at all to insult the other side. Try to prove? yes. Convince? yes. Insult? Who the drat are you to tell me what I can and cannot beleive?

It`s these moments that I`m thankful my religion has put the word clearly and without any doubts, the finality in this matter.

But then again the multiverse is highly debated apon.

The way I extrapolate from various authors, researchers and scientists is that we live on a certain point on a spectrum, much like the spectrum of light. Any other point on the spectrum and the numbers (Or "coordinates") would not add to a viable universe.

The idea of "A universe for each choice" is Very Romantic and laughable.

Har har har dee har har. I like how they just skip around and make fun of more than try to argue a point. "Well they could have been in a samp. Whats the miracle in a swamp? It didn`t smell bad? U ALL SUCK" The point of the bible is that god is drating god, and he can do whatever the hell he wants, be it making the universe or parting the sea.

And the earth is flat references? Four corners of the earth, the ends of the earth, etc. are just expressions that you hear sometimes today.

Fancylad, please stop trying to piss everyone off. Please stop posting things that show only one side. Please avoid intelligent design/evolution alltogether.

The Qur`an has clearly mentioned in verse 9 (Al-Kaafiruun):

1)Say (O Muhammad () to these Mushrikun and Kafirun): "O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)!

"but you can`t disprove it either."

No atheist needs disprove anything. The default position for the rational mind is to dismiss something unless it is proven. If I were to suggest that there is currently a teapot sitting between the orbits of Earth and Mars, the rational person would dismiss it as fantasy. To expect people to take it seriously and respect my belief in said teapot is idiocy.

"Neither sides have ANY right at all to insult the other side."

Other than the fact that they have no more evidence for their beliefs than for the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus. If you follow any religion, you would have no right to make fun of, say, a grown man believing in any of the figures listed above, since your religion is no better. They`re illogical, unproven, silly, lack any sort of evidence, and have been historically shown to be dangerous. Those are reasons enough.

All religions are based on stories no more real than the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. That alone is enough to deserve condemnation."

I`m sorry why are you twisting my words around. I never said Darwin was the king of atheism. I said that Darwin, the guy who made the theory of evolution, is a Catholic. And its not narrow-sighted, because a lot of Extreme Atheists hate all Theist. I believe in God, I don`t bash Atheist. I just hate Extremists!

To everyone complaining about how Atheists are `mean` to religious people: If religion was just something that people could believe in to make them feel good about the world, very few Atheists would care what or why Christians believe what they believe. The problem is that religion is being used to push ridiculous legislation in the US and other countries. If religious people (and yes I know not ALL of them do this) want to use the Bible to discriminate against homosexuals, use taxpayer money to fund creationism in public schools, and other such nonsense, then don`t be surprised when Atheists start popping up to ruin their s**t.

I`d like to meet these people. Fundamental Christians are following the Bible in their intolerance of other groups, but Atheists have no excuse. There are no texts saying that persecution will grant them a ticket to paradise, nor are there guides recommending that sort of behavior.

"But I believe in my religion because of its values it bestows upon me."

The problem is that if I were to say `Yes, that`s fine` I would be insinuating that some weird, baseless, non-scientific claims are A-OK, and it`s just a spiral down from there.

i want to start by saying i dont believe God will bless me because i believe what i do i believe he blesses me because he loves, i will do this in order, Genesis tells us that God made everything like man, then it tells us how not that he did it twice for the first time, also not at the same time but on the same day, not two different version, but more as saying i made this let me tell you how, it states that they(the animals) did come to noah, also he (God) said Genesis 6:3 "...yet his days shall be 120 years." meaning that he had 120 years to get together these animal i know what your going to say but what about the extra time the animals would leave, they came to him, he didnt distribute them they just went, also he got animals with the breath of life (such as giraffes, lions, elephants, not, fish, grasshoppers, frogs, any other animals that respirate through the skin.) why is it that the euphrates river had to be it (IT COVERED THE WORLD, NOT A SMALL REGION OR A COUNTRY A WHOLE

I`m not saying you don`t have the right to believe what you want. If you don`t want to believe theres a god, that`s your choice. But what I AM saying is don`t bash other people`s beliefs if you`re so incessant that there is no God. And as for the research team, research can be modified or even faked, ESPECIALLY if it`s for a comedian.

Like I said, I`m no scholar, but I have read the bible. And I follow its ways. And if you`re saying that I`m being too "preachy" or that you don`t care or whatnot, then I`m just doing my job. It says in the bible to do just that, spread the word. In fact, the "end of the world" (or as we call it, the rapture) will only happen once every one in the world has had a chance to hear about the Word. Just doing my part. I don`t judge you. So don`t judge me.

yah whay cefka said. Wheres your proof? If you all are debating that there was a big bang and blah blah blah, theres also no proof there WASN`T a god.

As for your anaology, what do you think Pearl Harbor will be 2000 years from now? Just a story. Most likely it will be altered, and the proof it existed will be tossed out because it won`t show actual footage from the event directly into your brain or some other technologically advanced method. It will be just as useless as quill pens and papyrus or cave drawings are to us today. Think about it...

If you ask me, something important enough to be reproduced over and over again such as the bible must have some significance. It is, after all, the best selling book ever. So if the stories in it were really made up, why go through all the trouble of making copy after copy for thousands of years? Must have had a great point to get across...

"yes well if the odd are so good then how come we have not discover life on other planets"

We haven`t even moved to our next nearest planet, we can hardly span the universe to find more life. The conditions required are too precise.
BUT, that doesn`t mean life cannot exist outside of our planet, the universe is so vast that the "odds" of life you gave are likely to have occured several times.

    Where`s our proof?

im with teh VikingGuy, i may not believe in a god but i think if there is one he abandoned this place long ago after he saw how badly he made us. i mean come on look at what weve done to be proud of as a race. for a start if the dark ages were never around we would have invented the cmputer in the year 1000, we have constant war for lame reasons, we have all sorts of people from all walks of life and all faiths arguing for tsake taht in the end your all basically worshipping the same deity. jesus and mohammed, probably the exact same person interpreted differently or they both met and shared points of life, whatever, if anyone tries to correct me about anything i will ignore you for i dont care. and thats probably your view to. btw VikingGuy rox. oh and i have another typical religious view right here. "So, who is it up to to determine what is literal and what isn`t? Adam and Eve can`t be literal since there would be no genetic variation. The references to Earth being flat must be metaphor. Why not just say God is a metaphor for the universe?

Whenever a Christian says that the Bible isn`t meant to be taken literally, it simply means that they have encountered an impasse where real science contradicts their fantastic wonderland, and bend over backwards to make ends meet. It is an unwillingness to accept that part of the Bible could possibly be wrong, and it is maddening to anyone trying to use fact and logic."

Flat Earth was misinterpreted. You can also say that the Bible predicted the earth was round, there are several passages pointing to that. If you would actually read the Bible instead of assuming you know it based on two wikipedia articles you would find out the purpose to why some are metaphors and the distinction between real and metaphor is obvious

Verses that those prophesies are found in are,Genesis 3:15,49:10,Isaiah 11:1,2 Samuel 7:12,Mathew 17:5(not a prophesy but proof that God has call Jesus my beloved {david in Hebrew means beloved}),Micah 5:2, Isaiah 7:14, Daniel 9: 25,26, Psalms 86:13(note this is written before Christ came but in the perspctive of him thus the ressurection, he is right more people can sing an elton john song but Matthew 7:14 "For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." To answer which parts you should us, all of them. Anything talked about by Christ is improving on the law of the Old Testament, anything unwritten in the New Testament that is stated in the old treat as is, such as the stoning of those who have sinned, it was to purify the nation (as to erraticate sin) but Christ says "he who is without sin throw the first stone" meaning "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God", Christ never talked about homo

I completely agree with this video, the bible does contradict itself, i dont even think that the writers of the bible even knew what a good moral was. A good moral to them was one that brought them wealth and good fortune no matter what the means
also only about 1 percent of the entire population of that time could read, let alone think logically

good and evil are so relative, all based on opinions or point of view, same goes for morals, for one bashing in any heretics skull is a good moral for others giving bread to the poor is a good one,bit if we began to debate on good and evil,i believe we´d require a very very long time to reach even a truce that the defintions and borders of both are unclear and based purely on individual perspective

Show me prove that Jesus had long hair. Did Paul speak strait foward, no he was sarcastic,or by illustrations, like the body of Christ are Christians really one big body, no, that verse (not strait forward though) says that short hair is representative of only one person to answer to, long is refering to the answering to man and God(not to be sexist, only in the household)i read the period thing thats funny, its talking of have sex do you want to have sex with a girl on her period. If your God is the true God ,in all His glory, then He cant stand sin whatsoever and you cant throw out some of the rules, if we follow Christ(which is what Christian means) then we cannot do what He hates, sin. I AM OUT

Actualy Woot, the Hebrew characters for Reed and Red are pronounced the exact same way. So if the story was passed down orally, it could have been an easy mistake.

Throw out everything about the bible for a second and just think rationally. Remove all personal opinion from the equation.

Atheism relies on the concept of either an infinitely existing universe or a series of unlikely events leading to the creation of life on Earth. (in an infinitely existing universe, the unlikely event would become inevitable)

Christianity primarily relies on the concept of an infinitely existing God capable of creating life.

Neither are proven so according to logic, until further information is provided. It all comes down to what you believe. An atheist would believe that the new information would lead to their theory being correct.

Thusly, atheism is, in essence, a religion. The religion that says that a higher power isn`t necessary for everything to exist. The only difference is that Christianity says that a higher power does exist.

but they were being silly and they actually had good points in my opinion...
Like reading the actuall bible for certain rules like selling daughters into slavery
christians do you think thats right..

But Viking, the people who were in charge of those massacres WERE religious people. They recognised the power religion had in uniting people, especialy agains oppression. Most of the people enforcing "athiesm" in those examples were actualy god-fearing men. They just feared the pupulation rising up against them more. They were not not forcing athiesm, they were wiping out anything that might stand agains the government. The people in power, however, usualy had regular religious beleifs...usualy the ones they were wiping out.

I think, in my humble and concrete opinion that your faith is your own. Believe something because you want to, not because someone has told you to. If you believe it because of fact, good or you believe it because your heart tells you it`s true, all the better. I am not religious, but I am glad for people who have found comfort in religion.
    Scientology, on the other hand......

god is a term more or less describing the basis of each belief, more or less you could call darwin the god of atheism and bismarck a god of politics(at least for me,opinions vary from person to person, such as allah and muslims in faith or the alien theories of science) and of course, god as god of religion

allot of atheists dont seem to understand most Christians dont believe the bible word for word. Its the Heavy duty Bible thumpers that do. The ones that walk around with the sings telling people to convert, the ones that try to get video games banned from the world, ect. Not your average everyday person. they have common sense. you can believe in god and be a Christian without believing every single bible story. and dont you dare give me and fudgeing poo "your opinion is invalid because your only 17 years old" like my opinion is magically gonna start mattering when i turn 18 in october? grow the fudge up. I`m not criticizing your views, i dont care if you belive in a god or not but dont try to force your opinions on others or degrade other peoples opinions, or base an entire population on the believes of a few.
yes there are some people who take the bible literally, but most don`t.I don`t, but i still believe in a God. It would be allot better if we all kepy our believes t

I`m not talking about the Bible when I say this but God and The Big Bang can`t be proven or disproven, so it`s really a toss-up to what you think. But to me, if there is a God then the Bible is at least possible. But I think that Penn & Teller are fun to watch, but I think I might have just lost a bit of respect for them. So, unless you can disprove God you can`t disprove the Bible.

"yah whay cefka said. Wheres your proof? If you all are debating that there was a big bang and blah blah blah, theres also no proof there WASN`T a god."

You wildly miss the point, atheists do not need to prove there was no god, when I believe something it is because I have seen evidence to support it, I have seen no viable evidence to support the existence of a god, hence I wont belive.

The ball is in theists court to prove the existence of a god, until you do that dont get irritable when atheists try to points across against the existence of god.

I don`t know who is more biased when it comes to making arguments: Penn, michael moore, or that one "historian" in the video. I disagree with a lot of Penn`s videos, they are overly liberal, one-sided, and lack substantial evidence. The Bible isn`t meant to take everything literally.
I find it weird how he says that the Bible says disobedient children whould be stoned to death, yet the verse they showed said man, not child. He, and his sidekick teller, blow things way out of proportion.

Turns...Benedict became a member of the Hitler Youth at 14. However this was actualy a legal requirement for all kids his age at the time. His father was staunchly anti-nazi, beleving it did not follow catholic faith. Ratzinger entered the seminary shortly afterwards. At 16 he was DRAFTED into the German military. He became ill and was unable to fulfill regular military duties. 2 years later he was captured by Americans, placed in a POW camp, but reentered the seminary afterwards. So while he DID serve 4 years as a member of Germany`s army, it`s unclear as to if he shared his father`s views, or if he was a Nazi. Probably not though. That would be like saying everyone who was drafted in the US during WWII was in the same political party as the president.

I am absolutely sick of the religious waffling on whether the bible is literal or not. First few thousand years it was supposed to be the literal truth. Now that people are not mindless, illiterate drones it has to be figurative. Go figure.

Guess what, your little fables have ruled society for far too long. If you are saying that something outrageous, like a miracle is TRUE, then the burden of truth rests on you, not those of us who do not believe. IE, it`s up to the atheists to call bullpoo and the religious to prove us wrong if they want their bullpoo in schools and courtrooms. If you can`t prove anything do try to press your views on society and then cry cause we can`t disprove it. You are the affirmative side, thus your task is proof just like any other debate. There is not enough freedom FROM religion in this country. And that ain`t bullpoo.

Hahaha do you not even see that that argument can be turned around back at you. I have said this already but you clearly ignored it; I believe something when I have evidence to show for it, I have no evidence which proves gods existence so i do not believe in god. And thats where i stand on that. Its quite simple really.

Muselike, what proves the existence of our universe? How did it begin? If you say Big Bang, which I am sure you will, then where did the matter to make the Big Bang come from? There is no EVIDENCE in that, so do you not believe in the Big Bang, thus not believing in matter or the universe? Only one explanation can explain the creation of the first pieces of matter that appeared...faith. Whatever your faith is in. For many, it is God.

The Big Bang and evolution are both supported with ENORMOUS amounts of evidence. This is quite unlike religious beliefs, for which there exists no evidence (and a fair bit directly contradicting the words of said religions).

myname12345, You cannot state definitively that those ideas are not the result of delusion or schizophrenia. There is no difference between someone `having found Christ` and a hallucination. As with any hallucination, I recommend medical help.

Studies have shown that someone who knows they are being prayed for does worse on testing. In saying that you are praying for us, you are simply being an arse.

Atheism needs no proof. There is sufficient evidence for the cores of atheistic views of the natural world for atheism to be the default view, that is, the one that exists in the absence of any faith. To adopt the atheist standpoint is to refuse to believe in something that lacks evidence.

    Nobody *ever* must `prove` atheism.

So you actually believe that thinking about others (which I`m sure atheists call praying) hurt others. Thats...ummm...wrong. According to science, it should do nothing at all.

Yes, evolution has enormous evidence. And many faiths, like catholicism, allows the belief of evolution.

well viking(all others who believe Christianity is a blind following) whatever you believe is put upon yu an you fight it corret(hmm like a christian)you also follow it (sometimes disreagarding common sence) but my faith coes upon me because i realize 1. there must be a creator because there is a creation 2.i have sinned (i have lied, am a lier,i have stolen,am a thief, i have though unholy adulterous thoughts,am a adulterer at heart) and 3. that no man took the life of Jesus but that he handed it down as a substitute for th punishment that follows sinning(hell) and 4. that all i have to do to get this heaven(and NOT hell) is accept the gift that is eternal life

myname12345, ignorance must be bliss. Dawkins pounded this argument with a comparison to a mountain, allow me to paraphrase. A creationist looks at a mountain and sees no way to the top other than trying to jump real high. You can`t jump that high, thus something more powerful must do it for you. Meanwhile the evolutionist is on the other side slowly scaling a less steep slope.

If someone knows that someone is praying for them, it means they think that someone else is watching out for them. They think god will intervene. This causes them to think for themselves less and rely on outside inspiration. Without depending on your own knowledge, your more likely to make more mistakes.

jesus was removed because he was inconvinient, and dug out again because he made a nice cover for political control, and as i said, your gift if your lucky is a quick death on a battlefield or a cold grave after years of civil service to a state,or if your unlucky...well...a unmarked ditch or simply being burned to ashes and disposed of as any other trash would be,your work for your gift will be rewarded possibly with a warm home and good food before you reach those final places though, should you prove a useful instrument and continue on your blind path, anyways, stick to it,and do your service for the unseen master, whos no more human than you or me and yet your god that you pray to each night.

"So you actually believe that thinking about others (which I`m sure atheists call praying) hurt others. Thats...ummm...wrong. According to science, it should do nothing at all."

Science tells me that because *I* know he`s praying for me, the psychological effect makes me do worse.

myname12345, let me examine your reasons:

    1. Why do you say there is a creation? How do you know? The fact that the world is so complex is no proof- things change by tiny increments over time. Evolution has been documented in nature, and it does not require enormous leaps from one species to another. There is no `God of the gaps` needed to fill it in.

2-4. You essentially have stated that you have done bad things (2), you believe that you will be absolved (3), and you think that all you need to do is repent and you will be saved.

In other words, you believe in God because you`re terrified of the concept of being responsible for your actions. You desperately want to believe that all you need is to say, `Oops, I`m sorry` and all will be forgiven and you`ll go to paradise.

Your faith is borne out of fear. It is sickening.

What I find difficult to accept is that 1) Christians try so hard to justify what they believe when nothing they say will be taken seriously by non-believers

and 2) That non-believers can`t be a little more open-minded. Believing in a higher power brings a sense of peace and solitude to a lot of people. It guides them toward happiness and love.
Why are you trying to destroy that for them?

I think it`s because non-Christians have seen the extreme conservative Christians and are frightened (I am too. They`re close to #1 on my biggest fears).

There are whack jobs on every spectrum. There are insane atheists, there are deranged Buddhists, and there are demented Christians.

Look at each other and realize we all choose how to live our own lives no matter what the other says, so let it be. Just Let. It. Be.

Well, I was just trying to understand your previous statement:

"i think if i went up to ten people now, and asked what their opinions of Thich Quang Duc were, i would get no reply, but if i said burning monk, i would. i respect him, for his belief, more than some foaming idiot here."

    Maybe I`m missing something...?

i do not need faith, i have evidence. if your proof is in the bible then your evidence is a 2000 year old work of fiction. my evidence is in the theory of evolution, relativity, quantum physics, math, and the cumulation of all human reasoning and understanding. Science created nothing, it explains everything. You say you need faith, because you have no evidence. Science needs no faith, just understanding.

cefka, there is a theory that says there was a universe before this one so the big bang was actually preceded by a big crush of the universe before. Hence all matter would come from there.

You claim to understand how the world came to because of one book. And it is confirmed because others read the book and believe it to be true. Generous theologians place the age of the planet at 6000 years. Thats after the domestication of the dog. Which offers the better explanation? Something that can stand the test of countless experiments and calculations or that the one that can barely be accepted by more than one holy book. And that`s taking the generous step of counting the Bible and the Torah separately.

"see the problem with atheist is they can never explain why things happen for example what caused the big band and how did life first come about because as we know we have never been able to create life from raw elements so how did it happen in nature?"

    That`s simple really:

Life- Lab tests were able, by electrifying organic chemicals, to create a thing that lived for a few seconds before falling apart. When this test is repeated across the entire surface of Earth for several million years as lightning struck repeatedly, the chance of life developing is virtually guaranteed.

Big Bang- I do not need to explain what came before it. Science need not explain why light has its speed, only that it does. I will not pretend to know what caused the Big Bang- that is the theistic standpoint, to try and explain everything in some manner.

The atheist need not know what caused the Big Bang, only that it did happen. He also will not accept any theories on that subject, unless they

Viking: If you were a Christian, NO, if you were 18-29, you would be SMART enough not to resort to such accusations. You`re losing. You`ve lost the argument. I know I`m coming in late (again) and you are simply proving my point: There`s large group of VERY LOUD pompous asses, who worship themselves, their cash, etc. You`ve confirmed in in previous posts.

Viking, how about we all pray for you? The bottom line to Christianity is to be respectful to your fellow human being. If you think atheism endorses that too,...well, you pretty damn well proved otherwise.

For the rest of you: Bad things happen to good people. Isn`t that amazing? Bad things also happen to bad people, too! Isn`t THAT amazing? We`re all human! Isn`t that amazing, too?

Jesus is countercultural. Christianity is inherently counter-cultural. Why? It endorses peace and mutual respect between all for God and ourselves.

Unless, of course, don`t listen to priests, witches, are homosexuals, fortunetellers, kids who disrespect or hit their parents, adulterers, fornicators, followers of other religions and non-believers, false prophets, women who aren`t virgins when wed, blasphemers, people who work on the Sabbath, or the children of any of the above, in which case they must be put to death.

It`s amazing how everyone here is so uninformed. Christianity requires faith. Faith does not equal sheep. It gives guidelines and requires you have faith in that what you do is good.

Do you all want a confirmation of the good it does to follow Christianity? You`re brain releases a chemical upon going through an action which brings happiness to another being. Perhaps teh same chemical is present in other actions you`re aware of, but it`s strongest when you end up doing good. Is that not the basis of my religion? Bash it all you want, but you are only digging a bigger and bigger hole for your own hipocritical selves (this is directed at all you guys while I was gone between pages 2-18).

Viking, the past mass murders have been carried out by Nazis, by racists everywhere, by genocidal maniacs in many countries, dictators, etc. Christianity was used as a method of mass self defense in a strategic maneuver in the dark ages, which, due to bad leadership, resulted in the middle ages being known for being crappy years. That maneuver for defense of euro countries did unfourtunately result in powerhungry maniacs coming to power and butchering hundreds of thousands. That`s true for the arabs, too. It was used as a method of mind control, and spawned the lutherans. Unfourtunately, many fail to see past that event. Lutheranism spawned a billion other sects in Chrstianity, some which are ok with murder, saying `the devil made me do it`. Rest of the post after a refresh of page.

Viking, you hypocritical buffoon, your last post behind my last post is utterly, flat out retarded.

The extermination of religion comes out of an ignorance which prevents others from seeing past their own unwillingness to be anything other than a hedonistic waste of a human, resulting them in finding the middle ages as the best focal point for their idiocy. rest after refresh.

viking i do not decide who does and who does not go to heaven or hell but my God has used chosen few (as a human does to a pen) to write the Bible and it says for all have sinned and come short of his glory, that you must repent if you are to enter the gates of heaven, and if you do not then you shall enter the gates of hell, i have in no way backed into a corner but have gotten tired of useless arguing/insults/and total disrespect/ AGAIN I SAY I DO NOT DECIDE GOD DOES so dont blame it on me or any other christian im getting of if this continues tommorow ill be back im getting off peace be with you all

i´m stating it as a reason of why your religion is looked badly upon, its because you incessently try and force it down other peoples throats failing to understand that the rest of the world has been past that for some 100 years

"The extermination of religion comes out of an ignorance which prevents others from seeing past their own unwillingness to be anything other than a hedonistic waste of a human"

The extermination of religion comes out of a desire to stop seeing such illustrious examples as Mr. Bush with his `God is on our side` inanities used to sway the fundamentalist population. They are beliefs that are not necessary for Man, have no basis in reality that would merit keeping them, and can be directly linked to some of the worst atrocities in history. THAT is why we desire the end of religion.

Viking I was having fun earlier on, as the other thread turned out to be funny.

It`s no longer used as mind control, cat. Give me an example where it is.

To the gay couple I`ll now call the viking-cat union: Yes, you damned euros (cat I will not call you american). Sucks that you two are so stupid.

There is an astonishingly low amount of priest molestation scandals.

Mind control. Let me tell you what is: the media you guys watch. You see nothing but a sweeping generalization of a mass group which you dislike for ignorant reasons. Shall I provide examples from european history, or shall I provide examples from what matters: present europe?

Viking: We do not shove it down your throat. 33% of the world desires to worship the Lord. Many of those willingly follow God. I`m sure many respect someone called `peace pilgrim`, who had an unconventional approach to endorsing peace in that she was, essentially, a traveling homeless person who actively endorsed not acting like viking or cat and chose to do such.

Cat, if you think bush has any influence over anyone, or ever has, you`re a complete idiot. I`d rather follow my feces than follow bush.

"It`s no longer used as mind control, cat. Give me an example where it is"."

Funny how one of the main points of contention during the primaries was Roney`s religion. Funny that.

"To the gay couple I`ll now call the viking-cat union: Yes, you damned euros (cat I will not call you american). Sucks that you two are so stupid."

I am not only entirely American, but I have had the fortune to live in other countries in order to gain a balanced perspective. Been to Nairobi recently?

Oh, of course. I`m not overtly religious, so obviously I must be a damned European. Of course. And you are accusing us of bigotry?

So i guess my overlying question would be, how does one presume to know better than every other faith that not only exists now, but has ever existed. God creates billions of people over time and then simply CHOOSES one group as worthy? Sounds quite dismissive and neglectful for a God so loving that he would send his only begotten son to die for our sins.

Yes, you do, from an early age such that children lack the knowledge to defend themselves.

"Cat, if you think bush has any influence over anyone, or ever has, you`re a complete idiot. I`d rather follow my feces than follow bush."

Or ever has. Such a sweeping statement. How about when he asked Congress for a declaration of war against a country that had no ties to 9/11?

I strongly recommend the following to you all, which is what I recommend to everyone:

    Read the whole Bible.
Go to a Mass. Try to fit in.
    Attend a college-level theology course.
Read the Bible again. Think about it in non-literal terms.

Cat, you`re talking about 9/11...why? If anything, we just liberated a country and now everyone there doesn`t have to worry about death squads coming to their houses to cut their dad`s dick off because he said something wrong. I suggest you go their, when you can.
