I missed the part about sending people to JAIL for this the first time I read...

"The Florida city of Riviera Beach passed its own saggy pants law on Tuesday, with a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail for repeat offenders."

    Wow...just wow.

This could set a poor precedent that could take away basic rights of self-expression. Schools should be able to set up guidelines regarding clothing so that kids aren`t walking around with their butts or breasts hanging out without the government getting involved. I also, don`t particularly agree with suspensions seeing as most kids view it more as a reward rather than a punishment. Weekend detentions or something of the sort that addresses the problem, a seminar on why vulgar clothing isn`t allowed for example, would be a better alternative.

It`s not really vulgar clothing, but it does go against the dress codes in many schools. I don`t like seeing this because people that do it think it makes them look cool, but it doesn`t. I just don`t think that any REAL punishment is necessary, even detentions...though it might encourage them to wear a belt.

And jail time is more than a little extreme. I mean, celebutards can rack up as many DUI`s as they`d like and get a slap on the wrist of maybe an hour in jail but kids wearing low-hanging jeans could get 60 days? Great idea... *rolls eyes* it`s proven that jail doesn`t do a damn thing to "rehabilitate" criminals, and if you put kids in there for something as ridiculous as saggy pants you`re just going to piss them off and they`re going to rebel. It could introduce them to worse characters and get them in more trouble.

    Hydrolysate,
    1. characterized by ignorance of or lack of good breeding or taste: vulgar ostentation.
    2. indecent; obscene; lewd: a vulgar work; a vulgar gesture.
    3. crude; coarse; unrefined: a vulgar peasant.

Pants hanging so low that you either see ass or boxers is in poor taste which means that it`s vulgar.

Who cares if the punishment is suspension or jail or even death for that matter... If there is a law, why wouldn`t you obey it? Some of you might think that people should have the right to `rebel` to a degree (this really isn`t about expressing yourself), but then again there`s no point to `rebelling` just a bit is there? The fact is that people don`t like to find themselves confined in their actions by `the man`, the sooner they figure out that they`re not, the better.

So, LazyMe484, do you think that politicians should be able to make up whatever laws they want?
The point is that by setting a precedent (a kid goes to jail for wearing baggy jeans) the laws could get more extreme and suddenly we`re forced to cover up from head to toe like good conservatives. And, even if you don`t like to admit it, choosing the way you dress is a form of self-expression. It is how you choose to present yourself to the world. If a girl wears low cut shirts and short skirts society will label her a slut, if she wears a pantsuit society will assume she`s a decent person with a good paying job, if a man dresses in dingy sweats he`ll be perceived as a slob and if he wears very baggy clothing society might label him as a "gang-banger."

That`s really stupid, jeez, it`s only a fashion statement, it`s not as if its wrong (although slightly displeasing to the eye, in my opinion). By all means pull someone up for indecent exposure if they have their bare backside showing, but it is so trivial it`s ridiculous. Evidently there is a lack of crime for police to fight and there is loads of space in the jails which is why they are making an issue of this.

This is why we need to raise taxes and give the US government more control over our lives. How else am I to decide what kind of healthcare I should have, what kind of car I should drive, whom I should give my money too, or what I should wear.

Oh yeah and gross, I didn`t know wearing your trousers hanging off your arse meant that you were looking for sex in jail! Lol, maybe some people would rethink their mode of dress if they knew that.
I have to share this anecdote: My grandma told me she was on the bus once and there was this guy with a really big mouth, kicking up stink and he had his trousers down low. When he stood up, apparently he wasn`t wearing any boxers because his trousers came right down, displaying his bits to eveyone on the bus. People started snickering and so he shut up after shouting "F U" to all and got off the bus.

First off, Old News. This has been law in Atlanta, Georgia for a while now. Secondly, if you don`t live here then you don`t know, but when someone walks around with baggy pants, you stay the hell away from them. Is it because you are racist or some kind of freedom oppressor? No, its because those non-nice individuals are the kind of non-nice individuals that hide guns or want you to think they are hiding guns in their clothes.

If you dont see me on IAB for a while I would be in jail.
This law makes no sense. How is that any different than people in beaches wearing bikinis? Wouldnt you say that sagging covers more?

From all aspects this does not make sense.
Economy wise this is stupid. They are hurting urban outfitters like BAPE, EcKo, Sean John, Rocawear, etc. Also, you will be crowding an already crowded jail system in Florida. This also cant do anything for the tense relation happening with minorities and police.

And the history of Sagging isn`t absolutely clear. The jail thing is the most acknowledge theory but people are forgetting that many people who ORIGINALLY sagged their jeans were people who come from lower income families and would buy large pants to last an extended period of time.

This is just another case of America vs. Urban America.
Some people here who hate rappers is a minor form of it. People who propose this law are extremist.

I personally would rather see that then a bunch of young kids wearing floods, or ever worst, tight guy pants. And you`d think the United States Congress would have better things to do than making a law on saggy pants. Like the war in Iraq
    Or gas prices
    Or nuclear problems with Iran
    Or electing a competent president
    Or solving world hunger
    Or putting people on Mars
Or how many old people there are in Florida
Or helping to solve obesity in America.
Or controlling military actions over seas
    Or outsourcing
    Or illegal immigrants
    Or terrorism
    Or national security
Or how to protect Americans in natural disasters.
    Like hurricanes in FLORIDA
Or improving America`s school drop out rate
Or preventing Pabasa from using an "h" in every single three letter word.

This is asinine. If you ban baggy jeans, you can let them ban everything. We are giving government too much control over what we eat, read, and wear. We let them control our faith and sex lives. It`s just another law to see how far they can jam that red, white and blue American dick up the butt of every American citizen. If you give in to government, they will take over.

In my old high school they banned grills and they said "We want to prepare them for the business world"

Because obviously, Holister shirts, belly button rings, and tight pants are a part of the business world.

If you dont like it dont wear it. But how is this indecent exposure when there are a bunch of fat people on the beaches with speedos (thats seems more indecent).

I hate seeing all these guys in my class wearing their pants low so i can essentially see their boxers. Hopefully New Jersey will take the example and make weekend detentions or soemthing for those who are doing things like these. point that if you looked down, you could see their non-nice individual. And on the topic of urban clothers: I`m pretty sure you can wear those retailers clothes normally, all the way up and kept up, preferably with a belt.

"This is asinine. If you ban baggy jeans, you can let them ban everything. We are giving government too much control over what we eat, read, and wear. We let them control our faith and sex lives. It`s just another law to see how far they can jam that red, white and blue American dick up the butt of every American citizen. If you give in to government, they will take over."

Blacksteel, they aren`t banning baggy pants. you obviously didn`t read the entire article, or aren`t competent enough to udnerstand it. This isn`t about banning baggy pants, it`s banning the low wearing of pants or jeans.

as much as i am against showing your ass in public, this law has gone way too far. Here is why.

    1) It is unconstitutional. It is your right to wear what you want. We have a freedom to express our feelings as long as it doesnt cause harm to others. You cannot throw someone in jail for finding it comfortable to wear your pants down.

    2) If it is "indecent" to show your boxers, then every guy i know that is under 30 is breaking the law. My friends and i arent "gangsta", but its just more comfortable to wear the boxers a little higher.

    3) The government has more important matters to look forward to. We are in war with Iraq, close to a war with Iran/N. Korea, the economy is in the toilet, immigration is messed up. Cmon, this is just stupid.

bingo5765, there are "gang-bangers" all over the country not just down south. If you think that the south is the only place where dangerous/suspicious characters live I suggest you come up here and visit Lawrence, Mass. I have every right to make a comment on this law, and I`ll do so to my heart`s content. I happen to think it`s asinine. It starts with saying that low-hanging pants are against the law and next they`ll say women can`t wear low cut blouses and eventually they`ll want us all covered up showing only forearms, faces, and lower legs.
Also, as primetimekin pointed out January16, I never said that boys wearing low cut pants should be punished more often, what I did say was that if anyone (male or female) breaks the school dress code suspension isn`t exactly the best option as kids view it as a reward. More schools should use weekend detentions because it`s more of a punishment. Most kids aren`t going to want more time in school. Takes away from their free-time.

Gregorny, with that being said, cant low rise jeans be considered the same as sagging. The difference is that in most cases it is a thong that is revealed instead of boxers. Also, how about all the plumbers cracks, If they wore there underwear up wouldnt that be more decent? But then of course, there underwear would be shown which is a part of sagging.

And urban outfitters design their clothing to be really baggy. If you want to buy EcKos that fit normally you would need to get it a size smaller.

    Defining america:

    we have:

freedom of religion: The freedom to practice christianity in whatever way you choose, and you can be a pagan or atheist, but you can`t hold office unless you`re completely amazing, and people will treat you like a mass murderer.

freedom of the press: you may express yourself however you like by writing in the newspaper, as long as you don`t say things people don`t want to know, no matter how important the message is to you or how true it is.

pursuit of happiness: You can do whatever you want with your life as long as the bible doesn`t say anything against it

    and..d.d.dd.....

freedom of expression: You can express yourself by saying your beliefs, but you can`t represent yourself in clothing, unless you represent yourself the way old ladies do. For example, we don`t care if you believe sagging pants are a way to say "I like to live my life loose and free" You can`t do it because we don`t want to see a butt. HOW SCARY!

Good thing this law passed. Hopefully it passes throughout the US, too. People who intentionally wear baggy pants are completely moronic. Not /everyone/ wants to see your butt, you know.
But it`s just a tad overboard, right? :p

Ha, go to jail for clothing? CLOTHING? ARE FUC KING SERIOUS? The lawmakers who passed this law is made of AIDS and fail, and the person, or persons, who thought up this is even worse.

I know some prep kids at my school that sag their pants, its not just for gangsters nowadays. If you send these kids to jail, along with the rapists, murderers, theives, drug dealers, and gang members, they will corrupt their minds far more than "saggy pants" will.

This law is failure at the highest caliber, THE MOST they could have done, besides sending them to prison, was to pay a fine, oh lets say $500. That way, they`ll be GAINING MONEY instead of fuc king wasting it on "sending a kid to jail because of his pants."

clockwork, you are absolutely right. Big Brother wants you to pull your pants up. Big Brother as of now says its okay for yo to go on IAB. But one day, Big Brother will not approve of IAB. And you cant go on anymore. Then, Bib Brother says you should buy all your products from one source, Big Brother.

And Axane you have the right attitude... sort of.

From where does this make sense.
    Economical: No.
Ethical: The other day I was watching TV and there was a commercial that said "Use parental blocking to control what your kids can and cant watch." Right after that a girls gone wild commercial.

Man some of you seem to think that you should have the right to do anything. You would go to jail for walking around naked right? Some people wear their damn pants so low that you can see their ass. We don`t want to see it. So what`s the difference?
