Sounds like most the accidents here are related to speeding and inattention by drivers.

sounded like blood pouring out and hitting the pavement. But that could just be because I`m tired and need to go to bed. I kind of get a sadistic mind at this time of night.

Just don`t cross the street when there`s a car coming at 80mph. Plain and simple. Just teach your kids to look both ways like we do here in the states.

I`ve seen much worse crossings (actual blind corners) with cars at much faster speeds around where I live, but we don`t have a problem, because instead of wasting our time protesting, we`re more busy teaching our kids not to step in front of a car.

So you fix one crossing, but your kid may just get hit in another crossing somewhere else because you didn`t teach him the proper way of crossing a road. Teach him how to cross a road, and he`ll be able to cross all other crossings too, fixed or not.

It`s not ironic at all. It`s supporting their protest in fact.

They want their road crossing fixed because accidents are happening frequently over there, and voila, an accident just got recorded for viewing. With this video being shown worldwide, the city council better fix it or make a fool of themselves.

British traffic lights? No womder they get so many accidents.

We do get taught how to cross the road over here. That is a pelican crossing although i dont understand myself why there was black signs at the top, i`ve never seen them like that. Anyway cars are supposed to stop when they see someone wanting to cross at the pelican crossing. So if you`re stood there, looking...looking, no traffic, ok lets walk then WHAM! a car comes speeding down the road out of nowhere.

It may or may not have been the pedestrain`s fault but the matter is that that road needs adjusting to make it safer for both drivers and pedestrain`s.

Groogle, they are Belisha Beacons which are situated at pedestrian crossings to warn motorists they are approaching one. The black `sign` would be to make it more visible in bright daylight I should imagine.

What are we supposed to be seeing here? Obviously no one was hit by the damaged car, we SEE it slow and stop, and no one moves toward it. If someone was hit, people would be trying to help the victim. It looks like the car hit a parked truck, which says nothing about the safety of the crossing.
Also the reporter says "The driver wasn`t hurt, but after the brief shock, was able to tell us what happened...", but the woman she speaks to is obviously standing on the curb BEFORE the crash and is NOT the driver. (The driver appears to be a man) The woman tells about her son`s accident, treatment, and long-term prognosis, so she`s talking about something that happened in the PAST! This is absolutely shoddy journalism trying to sensationalize a nothing story about a curb-crossing. Yay BBC.
