LOL Mweebles.

and no Hanninha...straight from the horse`s mouth - she admitted not being fluent in English. I admire her courage tho`. Of course she can`t say things otherwise because she can`t really conceal that fact.

Hence the reason why she`s taking up (decided to, that is) Broadcasting: To be better in English. Im sure they hired teachers, speech coach, and all that jazz.

You can`t even use grammar or punctuation correctly in a sentence. Don`t preach about learning how to speak English when you failed as well.

she didn`t seem that embaressed about it. ya, she`s not a native english speaker, but i assume that she was at the same level of english as the rest of the people in the competition. the judge spoke fine and she was obviously not a native english speaker.
if you don`t speak the language well, just get right to the point. she kept on laughing at the reaction of the audience to distract from her own inability to answer the question.

she`s really pretty though :P

Holy crap that was the most irritating phony laugh I`ve ever heard. It`s not even a hard question. It`s the most obvious and uninspired question they could possibly ask.

This is a Philippine pagent not an American one. I`m sure they didnt have as much trouble as her based on the way they were laughing. But I dont think she`s stupid just very nervous.

getting the judges to laugh could very well increase her chances. Especially the judge that`s obviously of some asian descent herself. She will be able to relate having a hard time learning the english language

If it was a philippine pageant shouldnt they have asked the question in her native language? Poor girl was just confused. Winning a pageant isnt really about the smarts ppl, she was hopeing she`d just have to smile and look pretty while ppl took her picture, poor thing.

She may not speak English well, she does have a pretty face and a wonderful body, and guess what, she actually won.

With enough practice, she can easily learn to master the language. At least she didn`t need to go under the knife to get that face and body of hers.

It might be embarassing for us Filipinos to some extent, but again, as said, she won the pageant. All she has to do now, is study english.

agree with Pabasa. English is now our first language. Not because we hate our native tongue. The way of thinking here has changed. If you`re good/great in English -- you have the edge school wise/career wise.

That`s why call centers here are booming and sprouting left and right. English Speaking Policies are now implemented in private schools and a number of Public School as well.

I `unno if you guys noticed, the host told her to talk in Tagalog/Filipino already. He should be paid a lot for keeping a straight face.

For a 17 year old girl, in her first pageant, she handled it ok. It`s hard not knowing a language. I`ve felt like this many times in Spanish II, ha. I expected it to be a really dumb blonde, saying something stupid, like "I`d love to feed all of the African children to food, because they are hungry. Thank you."

She wasn`t dumb, she only didn`t have a very good english. I like how, despite that, she managed to talk her way out of it without embarrasing herself.

rukasu, scroll up. English is the primary language of the Phillipines. Look up videos from the Phillipines on youtube. You`ll see they speak english just fine, only their accent can throw you off. She can`t defend herself by a language issue.

Understandably, she`s nervous. But I`m certain that she`s had time to practice, or at least rehearse stuff, like Miss South Carolina did. Her rant just shows immaturity instead of the wisdom of shutting up, thinking about the answer and giving at least a coherent reply.

Honestly, that really wasn`t that uncomfortable to watch.. She was just a nervous kid in her first beauty pagent in front of probably hundreds of people, all of their eyes focused on her.. judging her.. You can`t tell me that any normal person wouldn`t be nervous.. To be honest, I think it endeared her to the crowd in some way.. Did you hear a kind of "aww" shortly before the clapping?? Okay.. maybe I imagined it.. Still.. not that big of a deal..

English is actually an official language of the Philippines, and she wasn`t foreign. She was in the Binibining (Tagalog for "miss") Philippines pageant, so she was in her native country.

Still, no excuse for her rambling on about why she was nervous. I agree, she needed to stay poised, because she looked like a ditz.

She did look older than 17 though...well I guess most girls at 17 these days already do...

Sweet girl, though! Loved her voice! =)

The smart thing to do was to stop, compose herself, and think her answer. Or try to answer in her mother tongue (though I don`t think it`s probable).

Mumbling incoherently, and saying things like "oh, I`m only 17" etc etc is very unprofessional. And seriously, she can`t be the only 17 year old in the competition.

In short - quite the typical "OMG, liek, I dunno wat to say, lol! like seriously! O-M-G" type of dumb. I think her language is quite irrelevant. Most Filipinos are fully capable of speaking English fine, except with their own accent.

0
Reply
Female 377
Ouch.
I feel bad for her for not being able to answer due to her lack of knowing english.

But it also makes me question why she was on it to begin with.
Or why she couldn`t just ask them to explain the question better instead of going on some strange rant.
