The Oscars are fluff, but they can also be controversial. Here are some weird events that"ve come closest to bloodshed.

Good god people, reading won`t kill you. You should really try it sometimes. Might actually LEARN something. I hope learning doesn`t freak you out as well.

They neglect to mention that 2001: A Space Odyssey lost the 1969 Oscar for Best Picture to Oliver!, that movie about the stupid little singing kid.

I swear, what`s with the Academy?

wowibrandon, yes you are.

Citizen Kane is seriously one of the best movies ever made. Seriously.

They should really warn us with posts like this. Something like "Warning: Atofilms" would save a lot of time for those who HATE that stupid website.

farquaadhnch its cool i`m just annoyed at the guy who wrote that since he had to dump all over one of my favourite movies just because it beat his favourite movie in an awards show that took place decades ago

i`ve not seen citizen cane, despite it being right in front of me on my DVD shelf for 7 months or so now..... but from what i`ve heard while it would have won best cinematography hands down thats not the award it lost.

Hell some proclaim akira as the "most important" animated movie of the 80`s but most people who say that cant even tell you the plot, and hollywood insider despite claiming it to be a fantastic movie couldnt even post the right animated akira character for their report on the live action version. (hey used a shot of a character named akira from rival schools, who other than looking like ghost rider in the shot they used is in fact a girl)

Long story short, cinema journalism is full of pretence and lies

I`ve seen both movies mangamonkey (I took an interdisciplinary Film/History class two semesters ago and watched How Green was my Valley), and although it was a good film, I think that Vertigo should have won.

But it`s just me and I know there is no arguing with the internet.

heh screw that guy, complaining that how green was my valley was shot in black and white somehow i think the irony is a little lost there

My real last name is Morgan
I have a sister named Angharad
I grew up watching that film
I grew up in a welsh coal mining town

Context is required if your going to blag a movie in favour of one you claim is "the most important movie ever made"

and how green was my valley being grey? did he even watch the film? its an ironic title, the valleys were green before the coal industry turned them black with ash

Needless to say its a touchy subject :P

That was funny. Especially since right now I`m enjoying a big, fat biography about the guy, I was looking forward to something about Brando, the "incendiary zeppelin inflated with pure, red-hot, drat-all crazy" and I was not disappointed.

I actually would like something terrible and exciting to happen at the awards this year. I saw and liked No Country for Old Men, but I`ll be mighty angry if it wins - too damned safe and easy a decision for that crusty old Academy.

I`ll fill you in one word:
Rosebud.

As for what the movie signifies, rather, thats something else. Big backstory. The link has a nice short simplified summary. People spend there lives studying Orson Wells. He`s the one behind "War of the Worlds" - He was great, he had the most terrific vision anyon ever had and the ability to bring it to life. Take Speilberg, Jackson, those other bigshots, combine them, and you don`t have half of what Orson Welles was.
