Normally, I"d say this is a parody of how to conduct yourself in a sushi bar, but Japan does take their sushi seriously.

This was pretty funny, I liked the measurements. Classic. I like a culture that can laugh at them selves.

This is part of the japan culture lab series done by the comic duo "the rahmens". they have other ones about how to apologize correctly and how to pick up a date. Hilarious stuff.

this was so funny. I was duped in the beginning into thinking that this might be real, but when they did the counting of the people, i knew it. No one could be stupid enough to not figure out how many people are in your party, and how many you tell the restaurant you have.

mah mah mah mah, oh to to to to confirmed it.

(back on page 1) snoopdawgg: I completely respect what you`re saying about the foreigners not knowing the truth from the false, seeing that you are from Canada, the birthplace of sushi. Of course, learning about this kind of thing is quite difficult for anybody who has not actually been to one of the "sushi-ya". But of course, it`s probably not called that, but how the hell would I know?

I was took this as fact for a while. Moving the overhead flap at a precise area seemed odd, but then again I did not know much about Japanese etiquette. If there is only one person, show guilt in your eyes. Well, the Japanese are act humbly and respectfully to one another, so I didn`t think of it again.

The pouring of the beer with the lesser ranking pouring to the higher up made since to me. But the mah mah mah to oh oh struck me as odd. The lady pouring to the man makes perfect sense as that is the way it should always be, no matter where you are.

But the thing about the Japanese feet smelling of vinegar finally made me realise that this was meant to be a work of humor.

I liked it.

Of course that was a freakin` joke, you can`t seriously believe that was real. Japanese have lots of manners, but that was just one step too far, it was a freakin` joke.

Lawls. I liked the thing about the wooden plate things... Wearing them home. XD

And the guy`s face when his girlfriend is serving his beer.

"It is the samurai way."

If anyone really wants some basic advice on sushi etiquette, Alton Brown has a Good Eats episode on it, and there`s a portion about more traditional sushi etiquette. I know that none of the sushi restaurants here in Sacramento care if dip the rice instead of the fish or put your chopsticks down wrong. They`re just glad you`re buying food. Anyway, maybe it`s on youtube or something. It pares it down to the essential things that we uncouth Westerners would likely do wrong.

I agree that if you think this wasn`t a parody, you didn`t watch the whole thing. Once you get to the part about the footwear being used to prepare the sushi and worn home by the customers, it becomes pretty obvious. If that didn`t convince you, the illegal menu items and salt saucer should have.

^ That`s not the proper way to use the gari. Gari is eaten to clear the flavour of a previous sushi off your tongue when you`re changing to a different flavoured sushi.

Well, that`s what they told me anyway. Waiting for confirmation from Thanatos.

that gari stuff was just ginger. I have that every time i go t ohave sushi. But i dont eat it separate. I fold it around the sushi.

If people are questioning whether this is a paradoy or not, they obviously didn`t watch the whole thing or weren`t paying attention to the end. I haven`t had much experience with sushi, but I`m guessing that it would be difficult to order fire truck sushi.

^ You really need to relax. You *do* note that the video was clearly made by the Japanese themselves yeah? They were making fun of themselves!

If they were willing to parody their own culture then there really shouldn`t be any reason for us not to join in the fun.

Relax, please.

It`s quite offensive that you post this as humorous. Sure some of the traditions are over-emphasized in that video, but it`s no reason to knock a culture that acts proper in a restaurant instead of going to hooters in a wifebeater and eating wings until your hands are stained orange.

let me explain:
if a jap sees this they would laugh out loud, because it kept saying obvious stuff like "2 people" or "May i take this seat?" and some ridiculus stuff that mock traditional sushi place.

but to foreigners like you, you would have a hard time distinguishing the truth from the false.

If you didn`t get to the geta part, well, you`re missing a lot.

If I went in there they would kick me out in a second. My idea of customary dining is going to my friends house and raiding their fridge for food whenever the chuffing hell I feel like it. It`s quite customary, actually.

And I cant stand fish. Not to mention raw fish. Cheeseburgers FTW!
